Introduction SUMMER COURSES IN THE CENTRE OF BOURNEMOUTH BBSI was founded in 1992 and has developed a reputation for providing both specialised English and general English courses for students and professionals from around the world. BBSI occupies 3 prominent Victorian buildings in the centre of Bournemouth, a beautiful seaside resort on the south coast of England. During the summer months of July and August, we offer short courses of between one and 8 weeks. In addition to English, students can study specialised subjects, a variety of business skills, and can prepare for and obtain a range of qualifications.

What’s included in your course BBSI has 23 classrooms, with either inter-active Smartboard™, DVD, digital, or CD equipment. School capacity is around 300 students. All classes during summer have a maximum of 15 students. School facilities include:

BBSI is certified with the National Quality Assurance ISO 9001 standard. BBSI is also accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English and is a member of English UK, Business English UK and IALC. BBSI holds an NCFE Investing in Quality (IIQ) Licence for its specialised English courses. NCFE accreditation provides assurance that the content of a training course is of a high standard and meets the rigorous standards of a national awarding organisation. BBSI is also a Registered Centre for certain Cambridge English examinations and is an Approved Training Centre for the Chartered Management Institute.

Location Bournemouth Bournemouth is a holiday town with a reputation for being sophisticated and vibrant. The town is a regional centre for commerce, with 2 universities, and is a unique and popular place in which to live and study in summer and throughout the year. There is lively nightlife with a wide range of quality entertainment, including cinemas, concerts, theatres, night clubs, bars and restaurants. Our shops cater for all tastes. Bournemouth is also famous for its 7 miles of sandy beaches, beautiful parks and gardens, and its cosmopolitan atmosphere. There is also easy access to many regional cultural attractions. Bournemouth International Airport has daily flights to numerous UK足足and European destinations and there are daily sea ferries from Poole to France, Spain and the Channel Islands.

Surrounding Area The beautiful coastal area to the east and west of Bournemouth is a designated World Heritage Site. To the west of Bournemouth lies the ancient port of Poole, situated within a vast natural harbour. Poole provides access to wildlife, deserted islands and beautiful landscapes.

Travel Details Bournemouth is less than 2 hours travelling time from London by coach, train or car. On their first morning at BBSI, students are welcomed to the School and are provided with an appreciation of local services and amenities. Transport facilities are explained, including those bus routes between BBSI and the residential areas where our homestay accommodation is located. Most bus journeys in and around Bournemouth take between 10 and 20 minutes.

Transfer to Bournemouth We offer a transfer service from airports, seaports, and rail and coach stations to take students directly to their accommodation.

Accommodation & Welfare Standard Homestay Accommodation. BBSI standard homestay accommodation provides a single study/bedroom which is available

on a part-board basis (breakfast and evening meal Monday-Friday and all meals at weekends), on a bed & breakfast basis, or on a self-catering basis. Most rooms have internet connection. All homestays are inspected regularly to ensure that high standards of comfort, cleanliness, safety and catering are met and maintained.

Executive Homestay Accommodation. BBSI executive homestay accommodation provides a more luxurious standard of single study/ bedroom with en-suite or private bathroom and internet connection. Executive homestay is available on a part-board basis (breakfast and evening meal Monday-Friday and all meals at weekends), on a bed & breakfast basis, or on a self-catering basis. All homestays are inspected regularly to ensure that high standards of comfort, cleanliness, safety and catering are met and maintained. Residential Accommodation. BBSI organises both student-style self-catering residential stays and hotel-style residential stays.

Breakfast and dinner can also be booked at some hotel-style residences as an option. Fees vary according to the location and room type, and are published on the BBSI website at www.bbsi.co.uk. Residential accommodation is not available to students under 18.

Guest Houses & Hotels. BBSI can recommend several small, friendly guest houses and hotels close to our premises that would suit all budgets. You can choose a room with or without a private bathroom, and breakfast is included. Dinner can also be provided on request. Welfare Facilities. BBSI staff have experience and understanding of the many different welfare and cultural needs of international students, and our staff have appropriate qualifications and training in welfare. Our policy is to provide and maintain a safe and healthy environment for study. Welfare staff are on hand throughout normal school opening hours, and emergency staff are contactable at weekends and overnight.

Students can choose general English as their only course, or can use it as preparation for other courses at BBSI.

English & IELTS [Academic] Preparation English & IELTS [Academic] Preparation courses are flexible, allowing students to join at any time during the year, for any number of weeks. We offer a choice of 2 levels of intensity, 30 or 40 lessons per week. The IELTS preparation at BBSI is for the academic format of the exam. Students are graded on arrival according to their language level, and placed in appropriate classes. The IELTS examination is held monthly in Bournemouth and can be booked at BBSI, with a minimum of 6 weeks’ notice. (Examination fees are not included in the BBSI course fees.)

General English & IT Skills General English & IT Skills enables students to combine their studies of English with useful IT skills related to professional office work. The course is modular, so the entry dates are flexible, allowing students to join at any time during the year, for up to a maximum of 8 weeks. Students are graded on arrival according to their language level, and placed in appropriate English language classes.

Communication & Business Skills Communication & Business Skills is designed as an introduction to business language terms and skills in English, as well as the concepts and communication skills used in the international workplace. The course is a challenging step up from general English study. It includes team-work in meetings, negotiations and presentations, and helps students who are new to business studies to prepare assignments and reports of a professional standard.

Management Courses BBSI Summer Management courses are designed for both professionals and students of business who have an intermediate level of English or higher. The courses run throughout July & August each year, and attract a wide range of nationalities. The syllabus is based on both subjects and skills, and covers 4 of the 8 modules of the *Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management.

*Chartered Management Institute (CMI) CMI is the largest professional management institute in Europe. BBSI is an Approved Training Centre for the CMI Level 3 qualification in First-Line Management. Students who become Student Members of CMI, can gain a CMI award, which is widely accepted by international employers and by many British universities. CMI Student Membership Students studying on BBSI Management courses can apply for Student Membership of CMI. Membership of CMI is gives students unlimited access to international management information and guidance, which can assist their studies and contribute to their on-going professional development. (Student membership of CMI is not included in the BBSI course fees.)

Hospitality & Tourism Courses BBSI Summer Hospitality courses are designed for both professionals and students of business who have an intermediate level of English or higher. The courses run throughout July and August each year, and attract a wide range of nationalities. The syllabus is based on both subjects and skills.

Sports, Leisure & Recreation BBSI offers a selection of leisure, sports and social activities, designed to appeal to the majority of students, both during the day and in the evenings.
