WADUKUZA Mayor Ricardo Mthembu officially launched phase one of the long awaited Ballito Taxi Rank on Friday, July 28.

The event was attended by the project stakeholders, including consultants, contractors and the Dolphin Coast Taxi Association, the beneficiary of the “state-of-the-art taxi rank”.

The rank, which cost R4.2 million includes commuter shelters and a taxi wash bay and is situated next to the Ballito Junction Regional Mall and the Lifestyle Centre.

At the event, Mthembu spoke about the challenges encountered before they got the go-ahead to build the rank.

“We would like to thank the stakeholders for their co-operation and the Dolphin Coast Taxi Association for their patience as we move to secure funding for phase two,” said Mthembu.

The taxi rank comes after years of negotiations between the municipali-

ty and land owner, Shell SA, for the sale of the land on which the rank has been built.

The mayor said the new rank will have overhead shelters which are still to be built in phase two of the construction.

“We acknowledge the role played by the taxi industry, which many associate with bloodshed and violence, but what they do every day ensures that commuters are able to put food on the table.”

Vendors were also assured that the issuing of permits will be done in a cor-

rect manner and authorities called for vigilance from the association regarding the selling of drugs at the taxi rank.

Dolphin Coast Taxi Association spokesperson Sunshine Mthiyane thanked the KwaDukuza Municipality and stakeholders who were involved with the project.

“We also thank the mayor of KwaDukuza and contractors as now we have a better place to work in and a rank we call our own, and our job is to look after it,” said Mthiyane.

ARIOUS stakeholders in education met in the iLembe District for the KZN Legislature schools follow­up visit programme on Wednesday.

MPs from legislature, Department of Education of­ ficials, municipal officials and councillors embarked on follow­up visits to Isifisosethu High, Sibongakonke (Ndwedwe), Ukukhanyakwezwe (Maphumulo) and Stanger High Schools.

This was part of the departments analysis of the first and second quarter control test results in the iLembe District.

The department’s chief education strategist Phila Ntumba outlined the progress report and implemen­ tation and impact of the districts matric turnaround strategy.

“The iLembe District targets a 70% pass rate in the upcoming examinations an increase from the district’s dismal showing of the past couple of years,” said Ntumba Also outlined were the generally good performan­ ces in the foundation and intermediate phases and decline in the senior phase where most pupils struggle with mathematics and math’s literacy.

The iLembe District results for 2016 were the worst of the 11 districts in the province which led to an uproar from society.

Ntumba also highlighted that they have adopted a turnaround strategy for the district for which every circuit will be allocated a circuit manager.

The targets they have set are 70% for kwaDukuza, 69% at Ndwedwe and 71% for Maphumulo.

“A turnaround strategy needs a lot of effort from all of us, and we should prioritise those problematic subjects such as mathematics and natural sciences,” added Ntumba.

These visits form part of a programme ensuring the schools matric examination readiness and monitoring of schools that have been inconsistent with their pass rates resulting in a significant drop in the district mat­ ric pass.

EMBCORP Siza Water (SSW) gave pupils from Tinley Manor Primary School in Etete a better shot at a bright future in the spirit of Mandela Day with the unveiling of a breakfast kitchen at the school on Friday, July 28.

SSW managing director Shyam Misra said, after being made aware that some children go to school hungry every day and are unable to concentrate and learn to their full potential, SSW decided to build a breakfast kitchen.

“Our aim is to put these under-privileged children in a position where they can make the most of their education and build a bright future for themselves and their future children.”

Misra encouraged pupils to take charge of their lives and make the right choices. iLembe District Municipality deputy mayor Dolly Shandu, gave the municipality’s support for the initiative, calling it an “amazing project”.

However, her praise came with a stern warning to pupils to stay away from life-destroying drugs and reminded parents and teachers to take ownership of the project and take good care of it.

Deputy principal, N.S.P. Maharaj pledged, on behalf of the school, to sustain the vegetable garden and breakfast kitchen for many years.

WADUKUZA mayor Ricardo Mthembu officially opened a brand new office building for councillors in Shakaskraal on Friday.

The project took an estimated R800 000 to complete and will assist the community of Nkobongo, Shayamoya and surrounding areas.

The offices are a first of their kind for the municipality and is aimed at fast tracking service delivery following the recent re-demarcations leading up to the August 2016 local government elections

which left two councillors without offices due to their wards being in newly demarcated zones.

Mthembu welcomed the building of these premises which will serve as office bases for councillors from ward 23 and 28 respectively.

It is common for clients to breathe and rock to fast. Slow with awareness is better.

• For clients with acute lower back pain, the part of the exercise that involves rocking with legs extended may aggravate their condition.

If it hurts, don't do it!

• Do not overdo the exercise.

• Do the cycle daily at night just before sleeping.

BORBORYGMUS (BOR­BOR­IG­ MUS): The gurgling sound your tummy makes as you shift and synthesise a link.

Technique: • Bend both knees so that your feet are on the floor, about width hip apart.

• Focus your awareness on the pelvis and abdomen while taking slow breaths.

• On inhalation, press your pelvis into the floor, thereby causing your abdomen to rise and create a slight arch to form in the lower back.

• On exhalation, your pelvis should rock toward the ceiling, allowing your abdomen to sink and the lower back to flatten against the floor.

• Repeat this sequence as follows: • Do 10 exaggerated rocks with the legs bent.

• Do 10 exaggerated rocks with the legs down.

• Spend at least two minutes breathing naturally while focusing on feeling the subtle rock of the pelvis.

• Go to sleep.

The importance of breathing EVERY breath we take sets up a chain of events that influences every aspect of body function.

LUNGS: The expansion and contraction of the lungs causes a rocking action in every part of the body. The acupuncture point Lung 1 represents the start of the meridian system and it is the action of the lungs that "pumps" the meridian energy through the body.

DIGESTIVE SYSTEM: The movement of the diaphragm up and down "massages" the liver and other digestive organs in a way that facilitates their functioning.

The circulation in the liver would not flow correctly if the diaphragm did not mechanically pump the liver. Whenever the lungs are weak and/or the diaphragm has limited function, the liver becomes toxic and malfunctions. The diaphragm movement also stimulates the action of the stomach, pancreas, and spleen and it stimulates peristalsis of the intestines.

PELVIS: The pelvis rocks with breathing cycles. The pubic bones move downwards and backwards with the inbreath and returns with the outbreath. The movement of the pelvis causes expansion and contraction of the muscles of the pelvis and legs.

This facilitates the venous return of blood as well as acting as the lymphatic pump. The sacrum is rocked as well and this becomes part of the craniosacral pump that is critical for the functioning of the nervous system and brain.

SKULL AND SPINE: The breathing cycle also causes a rhythmical movement of all cranial bones which help to improve the circulation of blood and lymph in the head.

It also facilitates the circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which continues to supply the brain with nutrients.

Every vertebra rocks in synchronicity with the breathing cycle which helps to circulate the CSF down the spinal chord. The rocking action of the spine also helps to maintain the health and elasticity of the spinal discs. This action also promotes the healthy flow of the Kundalini energy and nerve transmission. There is also a breathing exercise which is extremely beneficial in "retraining" your body to breathe deeply and effectively.

LFA Romeo Stelvio, the first SUV from the Italian brand, has achieved the coveted Euro NCAP 5-star rating with a 97% score in the protection of adult occupants: an excellent result, considering the extremely strict assessment system introduced in 2016.

The cockpit of the Stelvio remained stable in the head-on crash test, and all critical body areas and limbs were also protected for the front passenger in the rigid barrier test. Tests on the front seats and head restraints proved protection against whiplash injuries in the event of shunting from the rear.

Tips for perfect event decorations • PRE­DÉCOR PAPERWORK Are you planning to do the perfect decora­ tions for an event? Then your mind may be full of colorful ideas already.

Do not mess up! Every procedure requires a streamline flow or otherwise you’ll end up with the worst event decorations ever.

Take a piece of paper and note down every single information on the following. Make sure you don’t miss a single data.

•THE EVENT VENUE If you have already chosen a location for the event, note down every dimension of it. For example if it is a hall write down the width and length of the floor. If the location has special geometrical spaces, note down a description on what it looks like. If it is cov­ ered with a roof, get a rough idea on whether the space is high and spacious or a bit packed.

If the location is in outdoors, then note the surrounding, including the landscape, view, natural resources around the in the loca­ tion.

• YOUR BUDGET Write down the financial limitations and how much you can rally spend only on deco­ rations.

• TIME FRAME OF THE EVENT It is very important to know which time slot of the day you have chosen for the event.

If you can find more natural stuff rath­ er than decoration items from stores, note down a list of them. If you have a person well at drawing, carpentry, fabric work, sculpture, etc. in your team, note down about them as well.

• PICK THE CONCEPTS AND THEMES After getting an idea about what your event really need to be, build up and think of some concepts which would suit the above indi­ cations (Time slot, venue, participants, type of event etc.) Following will be helpful to you as some guidelines.

If your event is set at an old spacious hall, or a chapel, in a morning, daytime or even­ ing the most suiting decorations include fresh flowers, and other fresh natural re­

sources because the sense of oddness and oldness have to be eradicated. Fresh stuff adds more liveliness to such locations.

If you have chosen a hall, or a room de­ signed with modern concepts, a lot of fresh stuff won’t highlight the decors asthere’s no contrast between new and fresh stuff.

In such venues use more technical items such as crystal looking fluid lightings, ab­ stract geometric shapes with contrasting fabrics in shades of primary colors etc. A lit­ tle touch of fresh flower decorations will be perfect, but as previously said don’t overdo.

If the venue is in outdoors, a temporary hut, or an open space, again fresh items like flowers, leaves and other natural sources would enhance the authentic look of na­ ture. If the location is on a beach, at evening time use very contrasting colored flowers with colored fluid bars illuminated with lights, and decors made by coconut shells will add enhance the tropical look.

If the location is a hut build in a serine landscape with mist, mountain ranges and greenery, fresh flower decorations with light shades of colors and ribbon and fabric decors in light colors will be perfect for a morning and day time.

If it’s a night function in a hall, or may be outside, consider more about light work, dazzling decors, glitter work and fireworks.

An illuminated decoration concept will be perfectly highlighted in the darkness.

An event like a birthday party targeting children needs more sweet decorations.

Morning, daytime of the evening are the best time slots for such events. Remember to include more contrasting ribbon work, crapes balloons and characters from Dis­ neyland and cartoons (if they are under age 15). Add some touch of fantasy.

Whatever the decorations which are most suiting the event it’s better to work out them in a specific theme. For example if the event is in an evening or night near the sea a theme of under ocean would be perfect.

• WORKING IT OUT Just planning and building up concepts isn’t enough making your plans to work properly is a must. Follow these steps and you’ll fin­ ish the decorations perfectly and promptly. ­ Find all the required resources within a minimum period of time so that it would help you in saving time for decorating. ­ Gather man power and human resources and build up maximum synergy as a team. ­ Divide work based on their talents. Work specialisation is a must for efficient work. ­ Go through the concepts and theme you picked for the event. ­ Divide work into several phases and as soon as you complete each task put them together and finish decorations. ­ Take a look at the whole work and if you sense it lacks something, do simple modifi­ cations and finish up.
