HE management, staff and pupils of King Edward High School would like to commend the Matatiele Municipality as there has been a marked improvement in the upkeep of the municipal pool and major infrastructural improvements. We now have a public facility to make us proud. Furthermore, we are grateful to the municipality for their generosity in the matric awards ceremony - it certainly motivates our pupils and staff to perform even better. KEHS pupils selected for district teams Congratulations to the following girls who made the Sisonke U14 girls’ hockey team - Rebecca de Burgh, Amandla Kulu, Sibusisiwe Madikizela and Paballo Thabana.

Tristan Phizacklea and Eathan Phizacklea were selected for the U13 Sisonke tennis team. Tristan and Neo Khoatane were selected for the South Coast tennis team while Eathan Phizacklea is the nontravelling reserve. Well done, boys. KEHS at State of the Province Address On February 9, Michael Jacobs and Lelethu Nontwana competed in the local round of the State of the Province Address public speaking competition. Michael, competing in the English First Additional Language section, spoke confidently and fluently, but was unable to take a top three position. Lelethu’s speech was well researched and she easily outclassed her competitors, taking first place in

her category. She will advance to the Eastern Cape provincial finals in Bisho in March. KEHS tennis at Kokstad College On February 9, the King Edward High School tennis team competed against Kokstad College at the Kokstad Tennis Club. KEHS started well, winning three of their four matches in the first two rounds. They didn’t stop there and won all their matches in the last two rounds, resulting in a 74-37 win for King Edward. KEHS first cricket victory King Edward’s first cricket team played at King Edward Park against Suid-Natal High on February 11. After losing the toss, KEHS went in to bat, scoring 201 runs for the loss of six

wickets in the allotted 40 overs. Kaden Duminy, Yusuf Surti and Arnoldo Terblanche were the batsman to note, scoring 42, 38 and 35 runs respectively. Suid-Natal scored 75 runs all out. KEHS therefore won the match by a resounding 126 runs. The KEHS bowlers were outstanding, with Jonty van der Merwe taking three wickets and Kaden Duminy and Arnoldo Terblanche taking two wickets each. KEHS swimmers shine at Sisonke and St Patricks The King Edward High swimming team took part in the high schools swimming gala at St Patricks on February 10 where they did very well. Carla de Wet was the U15 girls runner-up with Ethan Duminy the run-

ner-up for the U15 boys. Emmanuel van Jaarsveld was the best U16 boy while Stephan Terblanche was runner-up.
