HE South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) and the National Democratic Teachers Union (Nadtu) brought the Department of Education district offices in KwaDukuza to a standstill on Tuesday, August 14. The two unions, however, had different demands. Sadtu is demanding the removal of top officials in the district whereas Nadtu wants the removal of district director Musa Madondo. Sadtu is demanding the removal of three officials (whose names are known to the Stanger Weekly) for allegedly selling of teacher posts and corruption within the department. Mthembeni Zuma, Sadtu KwaDukuza chairperson, said that there is mounting evidence of the corruption from the individuals and the matter has been handed over to the provincial department. “There are countless allegations, ranging from selling of teacher posts, hiring of teachers without appointment letters, nepotism, bribery and not following due diligence in the appointments process. “As Sadtu, we feel as though this is affecting our schools performance in the district and we are busy consulting with the Mandeni branch for them to

On the other hand, Nadtu in the region were singing a different tune as they were demanding the removal of district director Musa Madondo who they claim was appointed unlawfully.
