KZN Premier visits Kokstad SIPHELELE NKETO >>siphelele@media24.com
T
HE COMMUNITY of Kokstad received a visit from KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala on Wednesday, August 28 as part of the Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS) programme. The Premier was accompanied by other provincial MECs. The aim of the visit was for the officials to inspect service delivery projects in Kokstad wards and to interact with the community. Zikalala, along with Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Sipho Hlomuka, visited the Kokstad Skills Development Centre, which provides skills to the community. He was told that the centre would be providing practical skills in civil engineering, motor mechanics, and computer skills. The home was featured in the media last year as allegations of mismanagement and the abuse of funds were highlighted, which led former KZN Premier Willies Mchunu to intervene. Efforts to remove elderly people from the home also failed last year, and a new administrator was appointed to look after the welfare of the institution. The home is now caring for 45 elderly people. “I want to thank the community and councillors for keeping a close eye on the institution, and my office will assist in making the institution function well.

He added that, as a caring government, they

Zikalala further said that government is now in the process of ensuring that a new board, comprising of men and women with integrity, is appointed as soon as possible to run the facility and that the allegations of mismanagement of funds had been reported to the police for in-
