MANY people either look forward to the festive pe­ riod and begin their countdown to Christmas in Oc­ tober, while others are left running for the hills to avoid the ‘silliness’ that comes with the season.

Rolene Strauss was crowned Miss World at the weekend and now features in a long list of remarka­ ble women who continue to make a difference to the countries they live in and the world.

South Africans also took time through out the year to remember Nelson Mandela and do their bit to fulfill his legacy.

IT is with a sense of loss and great sadness to convey the news of the passing of Beulah van Rooyen (79), after an illness bravely borne. She was a mentor, a teacher and a friend.

Beulah lived a varied life as an artist. She was an original member of the Upper South Coast Art Association (USCAA), for 36 years. She was also an avid quilter, belonging to the Cottage Patch Quilters’ Guild for many years. While her specialty was in designing unique motifs for applique work, she was always generous with her time and her talent.

Before her retirement, Beulah taught at a wide variety of state schools, and generated a love of the arts in generations of young people.

She was always gracious and immaculately turned out, paying close attention to fabric and colour. While she is best known for her glorious paintings of flowers, she loved to travel and produced many paintings of her beloved Croatia.

She is survived by her only daughter, Celeste, who arranged exhibitions and sales of her mother’s paintings in the United Kingdom.

HE Amanzimtoti SAPS wish to advise the community that there is no waiting period to report a missing person, irrespective of circumstances.

Amanzimtoti SAPS communications officer Captain Charlene van der Spuy said: “As soon as a loved one is discovered missing, a missing persons report needs to be completed at the nearest police station.

“A recent photograph of the missing person, together with full detail of when last the person was seen and a full description of closing worn at the time, needs to be recorded.

“Any information regarding friends, family and places the person frequents will assist in the investigation,” she said.

Van der Spuy reiterated that there are is no waiting period for reporting a missing person.

For any more information she urged the community to contact SAPS on 031 9131300.

BLUE Security armed response officers and community members arrested two housebreakers last week.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said an armed response officer arrested two suspects in Warner Beach at around 9.15 pm on Tuesday night. “The suspects allegedly broke into a business premises in Kingsway Road but one of our community crime prevention officer’s (CCPO) responded swiftly to the scene and arrested the suspects, assisted by local community members. THE newest addition to the editorial staff of Amanzimtoti Fever, is journalist Purnal Poonusamy, who has been in the industry for the past six years. Her spark for writing was ignited in her high school English classroom, and her passion for writing helped her in her decision to pursue and cultivate it into a fully-fledged career in journalism. It would be Poonsusamy’s greatest pleasure and honour to not only get to know the residents of this beautiful seaside community, but to learn the stories close to their heart and to relate them in the most engaging way possible.

The second addition to the Fever team is sales representative Felicity Van Tonder.

Having been in the sales industry for her entire career, Van Tonder has a forthcoming and open personality and a strong passion for working with people. Her organisational skills, and ability to work as a team player, will make her an excellent affiliate to the businesses in the community. Having married a former Amanzimtoti resident, Van Tonder is well versed in the area as she spends a lot of her time here.

The other half of the sales team is Samantha Davis, who has been with the Amanzimtoti Fever for the past eight months. In her 25 years of being a sales representative in various areas, Davis has found that the community of

Clean Surf project educates pupils T

HE Clean Surf Project School Presentation and Beach Clean Up, in conjunction with Animal Farm Pre- School in Warner Beach, was a great success, with teachers and pupils getting their hands dirty in an effort to

keep the local beaches clean.

The project is being driven by volunteer workers that care about the environment and who hope to educate the youth to be responsible when making use of the beautiful coastline.

So, on the third Sunday of June every year, we get to celebrate our “go-to” guys.

Dads are playing their part and should be recognised for that. They have more emotional relationships with their children, from day one, than ever before. Did you know that fathers who take a week or more off to spend time with their newborn are closer to their child during every stage of their life,right up into young adulthood? Pretty impressive, don’t you think?

So, how could you thank your pops this Father’s Day, without breaking the bank? C’mon let’s think outside the box now. No more socks, ties, belts and soap-on-a-rope (you’re welcome dads).

KAMALINEE Primary School recently entered the Urban Organics Facebook competition which saw Urban Organics request that local communities nominate deserving schools in a bid to

win a Hydroponic Planting System.

The school is proud to announce that, through the help of teachers, parents and the community, they have emerged victorious and have won the

animals.

Die span het ook afskeid geneem van die matriek leerders in die span en mev. Kemp wat binnekort aftree.

Hulle het Saterdag in die finale wedstryd van die jaar teen Kingsway ook gewen met ’n puntetelling van 19-0.

Tennis Club Doubles League AMANZIMTOTI Tennis Club’s women’s and men’s weekend doubles league commences on July 28 and July 29, espectively.

Lists are displayed on the notice board for members to enter their names should they wish to be considered for team selection.

Each team will consist of four players, and those players wanting to be in a team must be prepared to commit themselves for five-six weeks of play.

Confirmation of team entries need

to be submitted to ETA before the end of the month.

Additionally, the club’s AGM will take place on June 23, at 3.30 pm at the clubhouse and members of the club are requested to diarise this date.

The development clinic will be held on Saturday, and children can be brought down to the club from 8.30 am to 10 am.
