RECEPTION ACTIVITIES

It used to be that a wedding reception was complete with cake and dancing. But now the goal is to put your stamp on every part of your event to make it uniquely yours and one that your guests will remember! We recommend sticking with your theme but get creative with what is true to the bride and groom; after all, they are here to celebrate the two of you. Natalie Bradley, a local Athenian offers creative and fun large-in-scale games such as this Jenga set. This allows your guests to pass by and play a plank‌until the last person needs to pick it up! Or simply ask your Uncle Bubba if you can borrow his Corn Hole set

Everyone loves fun food at a reception for after the dancing has begun and your guests begin to get the munchies! Consider offering something that your guests can serve themselves such as having this popcorn machine. You can do a full popcorn bar of salt and toppings, or a simple grab your own bag. These popcorn containers can be picked up at your local dollar store for an additional wedding favor to your guests.

The Details Advice from Patty Oropeza I Do, I Do Bridal Boutique Athens, GA

Shopping for your wedding gown will likely be the most memorable experience of your wedding planning journey. It should be fun and exciting, shared with friends and family and when you find “the one you should have an immediate image of yourself walking down the aisle, stunningly beautiful in your designer wedding gown, full of anticipation for the look of awe and unadulterated love from your soon-to-be husband!

20 19803.1.2.020.GownPage3.indd 1

1/15/16 8:52 AM

But wait! Enter the pragmatic and frugal bride (traits sure to be appreciated by said husband-to-be AFTER the wedding!). You have the experience you hoped for at your local boutique, the authorized retailer for the designer gown you chose for your amazing walk down the aisle. Being internet savvy, you google the designer and style number and YES!! You find a picture of YOUR wedding gown for $399.00 Instead of the $1500.00 you were quoted by that lovely consultant who worked so hard to help you find this gorgeous gown! More money for the party! You want to call this fantastic company (to ask just a couple of questions to verify this amazing deal) but there’s no number to call, only an email address. But what the heck, you are paying way less for your designer gown and instead of waiting 20 weeks like the boutique told you it would take to ship your gown, this site says you’ll receive your gown from them in 6 weeks! More good luck! You happily place your order and move onto the next item on our wedding checklist. Six weeks later you receive a package at your door. You excitedly open the plastic wrapped, folded item (is this really my wedding gown??) you shake it out, oops, were those crystals and pearls that just fell off? You pick them up…these look like plastic, not Swarovski crystals like the sample you tried on and why do they look gray? Still optimistic, you finish shaking out the crumpled gown, hang it on the hanger and behold, the gown before you isn’t champagne, it is PINK! The “crystals” are scattered across a bodice with some “weird” boning, the fabric is so limp you look for the crinoline that maybe fell out…you quickly try it on and just as quickly, you take it off. You realize that you have been “duped” by one of thousands of internet companies engaging in the illegal production of counterfeit wedding gowns… The very sad truth is, the appeal of saving money in the era of internet shopping has left thousands of brides scrambling to replace their poor quality, counterfeit purchase. These companies post illegally obtained images from the REAL designer sites so unsuspecting brides believe it is the same gown. Here are some other ways to spot a counterfeit dress site: • Site is not listed as an authorized retailer on the designer’s website • Misspellings and grammatical errors on site • No working phone number • Refunds with restocking fee (this is actually how they make their money) • Unbelievable deals! Wedding gown retail pricing is controlled by the designers. You should never see much deviation in new gown pricing. Most bridal boutique owners have a passion for the industry. While these counterfeiters hurt the brick and mortar store business, they also take it very personally that an unsuspecting bride’s dream may be ruined. At I Do I Do Bridal Boutique, we have an abiding respect for the designers and the creative processes that produce two bridal seasons per year. We appreciate the many hours of hand sewing and cutting that goes into creating these gowns. But more importantly, bridal consultants truly take great pride in guiding a bride in choosing the most beautiful gown for her wedding day; one that suits her personality, her venue and budget! Fulfilling a bride’s image for herself, on the most important day of her life, is equally fulfilling for those of us who help her! Gown available at I Do, I Do Bridal Boutique - see our ad on page 3

75 Old Edwards Road, Arnoldsville, GA 30619

www.fairhavensplantation.com

Fair Havens Plantation is only 8 miles east of the classic city of Athens, Georgia.

Fair Havens was designed to elegantly host it’s guests with spacious rooms reflecting the splendor of a bygone era. Built in 1812 this 5,000 square foot home blends elements of it’s past history, including Federal, Victorian, Greek Revival and Colonial Revival architectural styles. In 1825, a ball was held in this home for the french General the Jean Marquis de Lafayette honoring him for his assistance in the American Revolutionary War.

All Photography by Melissa Prosser Photography

Melissa Prosser fell in love with photography in college. Since completing her degree, she is rarely seen without a camera in hand. Weddings are her number one passion. She focuses on capturing the day as it actually happens. Clients often look at her photographs and wonder “where was the camera?” Melissa’s discrete style of capturing a wedding results in true wondrous moments that couples will look back and remember for a lifetime.
