Celebrate

This time of year, the air is crisper; the days are shorter, and there’s the urge to make everything cozier. There’s something so intimate about this season. There’s apple cider, pumpkin spice everything and hot cocoa. There’s a reason why there are so many celebrations occurring in the colder months. We have a need to gather together with our loved ones.

While all seasons are great for weddings, if you are a sweater weather person, consider the warmth you can bring to your guests by planning a cooler season wedding. Think beautiful, lush, or rustic. The options are endless. Contained within these pages, our vendors have put together some beautiful tips and tricks to make your event wonderful.

S m & Rob

Robert and Sommer met on their very first day of high school, at EJCHS. They became friends, but it never went much further than that. Robert graduated early, so naturally they grew apart and did not speak to one another for a couple of years.

Their paths crossed again in 2016, at a mutual friend’s house. This time, they could tell there was something more between them. Sommer and Robert picked up right from where they left off. After that night their love grew deeper than they ever thought imaginable. They both knew they had found the person they wanted to grow old with.

Fast forward to June 23, 2021. Robert and Sommer traveled to PCB for the annual family vacation. As soon as they arrived, the couple walked out on the beach for an evening walk. As Sommer was walking, she turned around to look for Robert, and he was down on one knee. Sommer felt much joy! They were finally making it official and she would marry her best friend!

Their wedding day was the most amazing day of their lives. The day every girl dreams of. Everything was so beautiful and elegant just like they had envisioned. They felt so blessed to have each other and this beautiful marriage.

Sommer and Robert felt they could not brag enough about The White Fox Cottage. The owners and staff made sure everything was perfect on their special day. She said “It is the most beautiful place, and we could not thank them enough for such a flawless day. Our vendors were incredible, and all worked together to make our day unforgettable. We are forever grateful for each and every one of them. “

Artificial wedding flowers are trending and are making their mark in the wedding world these days.

The term “artificial flowers” can invoke many different impressions to brides when considering them as part of their wedding décor. They are sometimes referred to as “everlastings” and often referred to as, “fakes”.

For purposes in this article, we will be referring to artificial flowers as they are simply best known…“SILKS”!

As a professional wedding florist, I’ve come across many brides who have the impression that silks cost a lot less than fresh flowers. In many cases, silks can be less expensive depending on the quality. But there is often a generalized attitude that silks look cheap, and many brides shy away from them because they want their wedding flowers, especially their bridal bouquets, to exude custom elegance and look like REAL flowers!

The obvious disadvantages to most silk flowers are that they do not have the beautiful fragrance, they are not natural or organic, and they don’t always look or “feel” like fresh flowers.

My friend, Georgia Griffin, who is also a wedding florist and owns AWS Florals (A Wedding in Silk), in Lawrenceville, shares with me firsthand that many brides are very

TIPS FROM A PROFESSIONAL

ARTIFICIAL OR FRESH FLOWERS FOR YOUR WEDDING?

Business Partner: Mary Marder Freesia Floral Design / Lawrenceville, GA

open to using silk flowers in their wedding bouquets, ceremony, and reception décor. She and I both agree, just as with fresh flowers, silk flowers should be of high quality and designed as custom-made arrangements to meet the bride’s floral expectations.

There are many advantages to selecting silk flowers. Nowadays, many higher quality silks do look and feel like the real thing and they are readily available. Professional wedding florists know where to purchase beautiful, quality silks and these florists can create your dream bouquet and stay within your budget. Sola Wood roses are very popular among brides and look quite realistic, but they typically cost more than most standard silk roses. There is a wide range of color shades and tones related to flower color, so creating a wedding “color pallet” is very helpful when selecting silk flowers.

Another advantage in using wedding silks is the option to rent your arrangements. This can be a big money saver to the bride since renting silks is less than purchasing all fresh flowers. Also, some florists may agree to make your silk designs well in advance of the wedding and can offer brides the option to pick up the arrangements at their convenience prior to the wedding.

When considering silks for larger décor installations, which include ceremony and

reception arbor arrangements, floral walls or backdrops, along with custom aisle décor, ceiling hangings, elevated table centerpieces and long floral garlands, keep in mind that these pieces require professional labor and materials costs. Silks may save you some money if these pieces are rented, but these items are still higher budget items even if the flowers are silk or fresh. Consider using silk flowers for outdoor installations during the summer months when fresh flowers have difficulty withstanding heavy movement, heat, and humidity.

Personally, my all-time floral preference will lean towards fresh flowers for my brides! But I also recognize the budget challenges that brides face as they discern exactly what they want for their wedding flowers.

Well-designed arrangements made with quality silks can fit just about any budget, which is a very good option for today’s brides.

To all our local brides…speak with a professional wedding florist to help you fully understand your silk and fresh flowers options, costs, and availability. At Freesia Floral Design, we assist our brides with floral recommendations so you can optimize your wedding flowers budget AND make your dream wedding a reality!

Tyl d Amb

Tyler and Amber met in 2017 at a daycare center both of their children attended, and Amber taught at. Tyler tried for almost a year to get Amber to go on a date. His persistence paid off and she finally agreed to go out with him. Their first date was to the Atlanta Zoo with Tyler’s two boys and Amber’s two boys. They instantly got along and so did their children. As time went on, they both knew that there was something special between them and as the love grew, they knew they were each other’s person. In 2019 Amber and Tyler welcomed a precious baby girl and she was the missing puzzle piece to make their family complete. While taking family Christmas pictures at 9 Oaks Farm, Tyler had a surprise up his sleeve. The four boys were behind holding signs saying “Merry Christmas to all” and when Amber turned back around the signs said “Will you marry all”. The signs were

supposed to say “Will you marry me” but the little one flipped his sign back over to “all”, which was more fitting because they were going to become a blended family. Amber said yes to ALL.

Tyler and Amber both love history and to explore anything that has to do with history. Tyler’s family is friends with the owner of The Thompson House, 9 Oaks Farm and 2425 Warehouse. Naturally they went to see The Thompson House first because it is the most historical venue of the three. Once they saw the Thompson House and Gardens they knew it was where they wanted to get married. Amber wanted a Christmas wedding. She loves the 1920’s era and they both love the TV show Peaky Blinders. They decided on a beautiful, unique Great Gatsby themed wedding. The Thompson House, built in 1888, was the PERFECT place to set the theme. Not

long after they chose The Thompson House , Amber began working as the venue Manager for 9 Oaks Farm, 2425 Warehouse and The Thompson House and Gardens.

All the guests came dressed to impress in their 1920’s attire. The wedding featured a beautiful choreographed waltz, old vehicles, candelabras, typewriter, peacock feathers for the sendoff and a bar to fit prohibition with moonshine. Family and friends contributed to the wedding by bringing bite sized desserts for the dessert buffet. For their unity the couple had a time capsule box custom made by Tyler’s papa. It contains a bottle of her favorite wine and his favorite whiskey along with letters they wrote to each other the morning of their wedding. The box will be opened where they honeymooned in 5 years.

What is more important than to be the best version of yourself on your wedding day and walking confidently into your marriage? Nothing! You have dreamed of the perfect day. You have spent time planning your wedding down to the most minute detail.

Have you considered your overall health and well-being throughout this process? The answer is probably no or maybe just as a fleeting thought. Even as exciting the wedding dreams and planning are, the added stress you have endured heading up to your big day can become overwhelming and exhausting.

Consider spending a day at a wellness center taking care of you. Spend some time with your beloved with a couples massage to ease away the stress. Plan a day with your wedding party relaxing and getting pampered, or spend some special moments with mom prior to the wedding. You could even use this time to get to know your new mother-in-law in a relaxed environment. A wellness center can be instrumental in getting you and your party relaxed and ready to walk down the aisle and give you a place to unwind, regenerate and relax before, and even after everything is wrapped up.

The benefits of spending time taking care of your well being will be with you long past the wedding day and well into your marriage. Health and wellbeing will serve your entire life. You will both want to be the best for each other to carry you through the years ahead.

Taking good care of yourself is vital to living your best life!

Congratulations! If you are recently engaged your head is probably already spinning with ideas, to do lists and the long list of recommendations from friends and family about your big day.

If you have not yet started thinking about your Honeymoon, we recommend you do that as soon as possible! “Revenge Travel” is a real thing. The surge in travel this past 6 months has been exciting but also created many challenges for airlines, hotels and transportation companies that needed to go from zero to 100 almost overnight. The good news is that things have opened, and all destinations are welcoming visitors with open arms.

Here are some pro tips from your friends at Global Escapes for Honeymoon planning:

1. Go Big: Go BIG and stay as long as you can! There is never a better time or excuse to take a BUCKET LIST adventure than on your honeymoon. This is something you will never regret.

2. Something New: Pick a destination that is new for both of you! This is a very memorable time in your life, start it with a Honeymoon that offers a new experience for you both to share.

3. Pace Yourself: Consider taking a few days or longer between the wedding and departing for your Honeymoon. This will allow you ample time to focus on each event and will most certainly eliminate some of your “week of” stress.

Business Partner: Tiffany Hines Global Escapes, Athens Ga TIPS FROM A PROFESSIONAL

Planning Your Honeymoon

4. Plan Downtime: Make sure to plan enough time to relax. Being active is great, but if you are traveling on the heels of “I do’s”, you are going to need some time to decompress, planning a wedding is months of work and stress.

5. Find Your Destination: Beware of travel suggestions from friends and family. (Many of these will come unsolicited, so just smile and thank everyone for the advice.) The people closest to you have great intentions, they want to help you, but they are trying to solve your problem with their preferences.

6. Hire a Professional: Consider hiring a travel advisor. You will likely make a significant investment in this vacation, make sure you spend your time and money wisely by hiring a professional to make sure you get the experience you want. A good advisor will take the time to understand your preferences and make sure you are happy!

C rtney & Br d

The couple met when they were in high school. Courtney went off to college at the University of Kentucky while Brandon stayed back in Georgia. She was away for two years and then decided to come back home to be with family and the love of my life, Brandon. 6 years later, Brandon and Courtney took a trip to the beach where he proposed.

Like many brides, Courtney immediately started looking for the perfect wedding venue. They decided on Fendley Farmstead and honestly felt they couldn’t have made a more perfect choice! The staff was amazing and Dena ( owner and coordinator) was the reason they chose to go with this venue. She handled everything and Courtney never felt stressed. Courtney felt that Dena was an absolute blessing. Making decisions about weddings can be so confusing at times that Courtney decided to just put her trust in Dena to handle it. Dena looked at Courtney and told her with pure confidence that she could do it. The night was perfect, the cake was beyond delicious, the DJ was amazing, and the officiant was fabulous. Courtney still keeps a picture in her head of her stunning bouquet with the vibrant orange flowers. Her advice is to remember that every wedding has a few bumps along the way but have faith it will end perfectly.

Callie & St l g

The Helm’s love story began in the summer of 2019 when Callie’s younger brother, Parker encouraged Sterling to pursue his sister, Callie. Callie was a recent graduate of the University of Georgia and had just recently completed her Masters in education. Sterling was an instructor at Lanier Technical College and had reconnected with her brother. The Helm’s were childhood friends. Sterling, heeded her brother’s advice and together, the couple created two years worth of memories. Callie just knew from the time she spent with Sterling racing cars throughout North Georgia that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. The two were truly inseparable.

On June twenty-sixth, Sterling asked Callie to spend the rest of their lives together in Elberton, Georgia. The couple then set out to find the perfect venue. The Helm’s grew up in the mountains of North Georgia and one day, on a family vacation, the Fourth of July, to be exact came across the venue, Hidden Acres. The location was perfect and it suited their vision for their wedding day. The beautiful rustic barn aesthetic and landscape drew the couple to choose this venue for their special day.
