ISFA CUP FIXTURE | YEAR 10
Claremont Fan Court School were pleased to see the return of competitive sport on Tuesday 13 October with an U15 ISFA cup football fixture versus Ryde School who had travelled from the Isle of Wight to participate. The match, which remained spectator free with a number of safety measures in place was the first opportunity for both schools to play competitively during the autumn term. The game was played in great spirit, ending with a 5-3 victory for Claremont.
VIRTUAL ARCHERY LEAGUE | ALL YEARS
Archery began as a lunchtime club about 10 years ago at Claremont Fan Court School, run by archery instructor, Hilly Longman. From humble beginnings, the club has now grown in popularity - so much so that the sport now features as a key event in the school’s sporting schedule. Most notably, however, Hilly Longman and archery coach, Sarah Gibb, have been working with Archery GB to initiate a brand new virtual school archery league in order to broaden the sport at grass roots level in the UK.
Archery is a sport which allows boys and girls to compete alongside each other and teaches good hand eye coordination as well as patience with oneself; learning that failing is all part of the process, letting go of a bad shot and refocusing on the next.
FINAL SPORTS FIXTURES | SIXTH FORM
To end the season, our senior lacrosse and football teams came together one final time for a friendly fixture before the end of the academic year. The boys’ sixth form football team played our current Y11s, whilst the girls played a lacrosse fixture v St James. Opportunities to play competitively have been few and far between this year, so it was fantastic to give pupils a last chance to play together before leaving the school.

GYMNASTICS CLUB | YEAR 8
Gymnastics club has been a source of great enjoyment for our Year 8 pupils who have been practising their acrobatic skills each week. Often found launching themselves through the air, leaping over horse boxes or perfecting their balance during floorwork routines, it has been fantastic to see the group progressing so well and enjoying all that the club has to offer.
GIRLS CRICKETING SUCCESS | YEAR 7-9
Claremont enjoyed a number of fantastic cricketing firsts this year with more fixtures and more wins than than the school has ever seen. The girls have played in both their own fixtures and with the boys’ teams this season, particularly in Years 7 and 8, where the girls were an integral part of the team’s success. The Year 7 B team have celebrated an unbeaten season this year, something which only the Year 9 A team could emulate previously. Year 8 girls and boys also played in the Society of Heads national festival in Bristol for the first time this year, with the girls finishing runners up. There is certainly an exciting future for competitive, higher level cricket in the coming years.
