WHAT IS ITS VALUE?
I have chosen the Roundhouse mainly for its unique shape. It’s circular structure seemed perfect for my design proposal. My aim is to create a multi-cultural residential university hub for art and design students. The intentions behind this design proposal is to create an environment through the careful programming of spaces. In doing so, it will create a sense of community and enhance social interactions between different cultural groups.
The site was previously used as stables for horses, hence the shape of the site - a horseshoe.
The Roundhouse is also a grade II* listed building. This means it is highly important and has its limits for alterations. With its high grade listing, it is important to ensure majority of the building is preserved and restored. But, this is a good opportunity to test my skills and knowledge and to create a multi-programme space.
