Why Chose Hostels

Hostels are typically short-term, budget-friendly shared accommodation in a dorm-like style with shared bathrooms and a common area.

There are a range of reasons why hostels have become very popular in recent years:

AFFORDABILITY

Firstly, hostels are especially popular among millennial (aged 18-35) as they offer a cheaper alternative to other forms of accommodations. Millennial would rather spend more of their disposable income on seeing the world rather than accommodation.

SUSTAINABILITY

Secondly, hostels are generally very sustainable - lessening the negative impact on the environment.

COMMUNITY

Due to the style of shared accommodation with shared facilities and spaces, it increases social interaction amongst travellers.

SECURITY

Majority of accommodations will have some form of security. Many hostels have fobs, keys, gates and even lockers for travellers to store valuable items.

FRIENDLY STAFF

Many staff members are travellers themselves and will be happy to help and advise on the best places to go etc. Some hostels nowadays have specific staff members who can help plan trips.

EXTRA

According to The Business Research Company, the hostel market is expected to grow from $4.37 billion in 2020 to $5.2 billion in 2021. This means more money is also being spent on accommodation to make it more appealing for its users. For example incorporating extra amenities such as, swimming pools, roof tops, bars etc,. HOW WILL THIS INFLUENCE MY PROJECT?

Having researched into hostels, it shows their importance and popularity, especially amongst millennial. My design aim is to create a space for students (millennial) to feel safe, comfortable and most importantly a place where they can interact and build connections - hostels provide this. All of the reasons stated on the left are ones I will take forward into my design; affordability, sustainability, community, security and extra amenities.
