CIVIL INDUSTRY TRAINING AWARDS 2021

Building business through people The CCNZ Civil Industry Training Awards sponsored by Connexis recognise those employers that provide opportunities for their staff to gain skills and knowledge through a nationally-recognised qualification. These employers invest across all levels of their business, embedding training as a matter of course in everything they do, and create pathways for their people to move up.

Dynamic and progressive CONNEXIS AWARD: Turnover up to $10m COMPANY: Utilities Infrastructure Utilities Infrastructure is a Canterbury based utilities contractor predominantly specialising in large scale 3 waters and trenchless projects across the South Island, with 50 full time staff across 3 divisions of Projects, Trenchless/Hydro & PE Welding. UINZ was established in 2013 and since the very start we have been committed to our people and the training we need to provide to ensure the growth of both the individual and the business. We set aside 1% of our turnover every year to allocate training and development of all areas of our business and we find this investment is the success of our growth and culture. Currently we have more than 50% of our staff training in different courses across our business and our goal is to produce 1 fully qualified 3 waters trainee every 6 months. We are immensely proud of our team and the commitment they have to up-skilling themselves to

further their careers in our ever-growing industry. UINZ will continue to grow and invest in our people for years to come and provide opportunity for everyone to better themselves in both their career and life goals.

The judges comment Dynamic and progressive business lead by passionate owners. They embrace training at all levels evidenced by the majority of their staff undertaking and attaining qualifications ultimately leading to Civil Trades Certification for many. Staff are actively involved in both their own and the company’s progression and success. Having trained and thus competent staff gives Utilities Infrastructure confidence to take on those complex and technical projects that many other contractors shy away from. Their efforts have been previously recognised at Canterbury/West Coast CCNZ branch company training awards.
