Pune “The Oxford of The East” In India The City of Pune also known as Poona is a very vibrant and thriving city to visit. It is a mixture of capitalism and spirituality. It is known as “The Oxford of East” due to the presence of several well-known educational institutions in the city. The city was the capital of Maratha Empire and was built by Shivaji Maharaj. It was the administrative and political center of India as the Peshwas who were the prime minister during Maratha Empire operated from here. There are many attractive places and thing to do in the city, let’s take a look at the few interesting things to do here.

Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum of Daily Life Objects This museum is a Pune’s delight as it houses a massive 20,000 odd objects of daily life in India which are collected by Late Dinkar Kelkar. It includes a number of old hookah pipes, writing instruments, lamps, textiles, toys, entire doors and windows, kitchen utensils, furniture, puppets, ivory playing cards and betel-nut cutters.

The Aga Khan Palace The place was built by Sultan Aga Khan III in 1892 and spreads across .5 hectare plot. This graceful building was an infamous prison for all the prominent leaders including Mahatma Gandhi following the Quit India Movement in 1942. The main palace is now made as a Gandhi Memorial where you can peek in his extraordinary life.

Joshi’s Museum of Miniature Railway Bhau Joshi’s obsession for model train helped him make the only miniature city in India. This is the world’s greatest model train layout, which is fully functional and is a masterpiece of pure engineering and passion. A must visit place in Pune.

Peshwa Palace Shaniwar Wada The remains of the fortressed palace of Peshwa rulers is located in old part of the city. This was built in 1732, but was destroyed by fire in 1828, but its might walls and remains are worth a watch. There is also a 40 mins sound and light show in evening from Wednesday to Monday.

Dagaduseth Halwai Ganpati Temple This is one of the most famous temples in Pune as well as Maharashtra. This is a must visit place in Pune. People from all over the county and world visit this temple. The best time to visit is during Ganesh Festival.
