Pickaway has it origins in the native word, “Piqua” meaning “risen from ashes.” Pickaway County, founded in 1810, has deep roots in Native American history and myriad protected Indian burial mounds are still located throughout the area.

Today, the county has more than 57,000 residents, with a median age of 39.3. Agriculture reigns supreme here, with nearly 300,000 acres of farmland within county lines. With a median annual income of $58,706, which is higher than the median annual income in the U.S., there are 1.47 times more people working in the agriculture industry than would be expected in a location of this size. Other industries represented within the county are healthcare and social assistance, retail trade and manufacturing. Several major players within these industries call Pickaway County home, including PPG, DuPont, Georgia Pacific and Sofidel. Berger Health System, a nationally recognized organization with a number of awards for patient care, also calls the county home. Small businesses are the lifeblood of the economy and Pickaway county is no exception. Entrepreneurship is about taking risks and many of our residents have taken major risks to become not only the entrepreneurs of today, but into the future. Lastly, in order for a community to educate their residents and provide outstanding opportunities for those residents to diversify their skill sets, it must have a sense of community spirit. Pickaway County is home to Ohio Christian University, PickawayRoss Career & Technology Center, four area school districts (Circleville, Logan Elm, Teays Valley and Westfall) and Pickaway County Board of Developmental Disabilities. A single visit to Pickaway County will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression. No visit is complete without a tasty treat from the country’s oldest confectionary, Wittich’s Candy Shop. If you cherish a place that offers a safe, hometown feel where everything from boutique shops to delicious eats are within walking distance, you’ve come to the right place. We hope you will enjoy your stay, whether it’s for a day, a week or a lifetime! Tim Wilson
