he pandemic may be cutting into some of our indoor museum time, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy culture and art exhibits in the “great artdoors.”
“Art Outside” is a free public art exhibit now through April 18. Curated by The Bass Museum of Art, the program aims to give Miami Beach residents and visitors the opportunity to see and experience a selection of public artwork where they’d least expect to find it — inside a Miami Beach public park and along the city’s Beachwalk. “With ‘Art Outside,’ we were excited to bring a mixture of artwork by local and international artists to the buildings, boardwalks and green space in Miami Beach for our residents and visitors to stumble upon, discover, experience and ponder,” shared Bass Curator Leilani Lynch. The works of art were specially chosen from The Bass collection and from the collections of the city’s Art in Public Places program, The Wolfsonian-FIU, Miami Beach Urban Studios-FIU and the W South Beach hotel. plants and trees. The exhibit includes a special seating area that was constructed by the artist from locally sourced materials. Many of the plant species, like the Salix caroliniana (coastal plain willow), are said to have medicinal properties and are still used by some members of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Nestled on the Beachwalk between The Bass and Lincoln Road is an exhibit called “Work From Home,” a temporary commission that features works by nine Miami area artists. The exhibit showcases multiple art forms, including photography, digital renderings, drawing and collages. The exhibition is intended to highlight the personal, sometimes even private side of domestic life. Nearly two dozen works of art — from monumental sculptures to temporary commissions — are on display in “Art Outside.” The works can be enjoyed while walking, jogging or even biking. You can find a self-guided map and additional project information at www.artoutsidemb.org. Collins Park is located at 2100 Collins Avenue.
