FUN BLOOMS IN FLOWER MOUND
TALE OF THE MOUND
Flower Mound derives its name from an actual landmark that has as many legends attached to it as Texas has tall tales. The Mound rises 650 feet above sea level and stands 50 feet above its surroundings. While there are few unchallenged facts about this natural wonder, Texas’ eminent historian, the late A.C. Greene, believed that it received its name in the 1840s because of the abundance of wildflowers that grew on it. This area was part of the great American Blackland Prairie that spanned from Canada to the Rio Grande and from the Rockies to the Mississippi. Only 1,000 acres remain of the original 20 million known as the Tall Grass Prairie. The Mound’s 13 acres was deeded to the non-profit Mound Foundation to preserve its natural state forever. Located at FM 2499 and FM 3040, legend suggests this was a sacred Indian burial ground and Mother Nature abided with strong winds to prevent any structure from being built on it flower-mound.com/mound.
Fabulous shopping and dining destinations, abundant outdoor activities and a small-town vibe make Flower Mound a delightful place to visit. So grab the gang and come make some unforgettable family memories.
