We're thrilled to announce the winner of our inaugural "I Voted" sticker contest: Cale Ebersole! Cale, an 11-year-old 5th grader at Rizzuto Elementary, created the winning design He was so excited to participate and is honored to have his design chosen. He loves drawing, baseball, riding his bike, and four-wheeling with his little brother. Fun fact: Another drawing by Cale won a Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo contest this year! If you cast your vote in the City of La Porte, you will get a sticker with his design!
The City of La Porte proudly concluded its first-ever Citizens Election Academy on February 20, 2025. During a special ceremony at La Porte City Hall, Mayor Rick Helton presented certificates to ten dedicated community members who completed the program. The two-week academy, hosted by the City Secretary's Office, offered participants an in-depth look at the Texas election process at the local government level. The program, designed to enhance public understanding of election procedures, covered four key modules: voter registration, polling location setup, election results tabulation, and post-election responsibilities.
One of the program's highlights was a session led by Darwin Flowers of Hart InterCivic, the City's Verity election equipment manufacturer. Flowers provided hands-on training and demonstrated how to set up and break down voting machines at polling locations. Throughout the program, participants expressed their appreciation for the academy and shared how it deepened their understanding of the election process. Many graduates have also committed to volunteering in future city elections.
City Secretary Lee Woodward emphasized the importance of civic education, stating, "Elections are the foundation of our democracy, and understanding the process is key to ensuring transparency and trust. We are thrilled to see our community take such an active interest, and we look forward to continuing this program in the future."
The City of La Porte is pleased to announce that the next Citizens Election Academy will be held in Spring 2026. Registration will open at the end of this year. The city's website will provide more details, including session dates and registration information. For additional election-related information, visit the city's election page or contact the City Secretary's Office at 281-470-5021

The La Porte Citizens' Police Academy is an excellent way to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community By offering a behind-the-scenes look at police training, policies, and various units, the program fosters greater understanding and transparency. This kind of education empowers citizens to learn about policing in their community. At the same time, it gives police officers valuable insight into the concerns and perspectives of the people they serve.
For more information on the La Porte Citizens Police Academy, contact PAR Officer Ricky Valdez by email at ValdezRS@LaPorteTX.gov.
