If a class, trip or activity is full, it may be possible to be added to a waiting list. You will be contacted only if space becomes available. Please note that not all activities accept waiting lists.

REFUND, CREDIT AND TRANSFER POLICY When you sign up for a class, we depend on your enrollment for a successful class; however, we understand that sometimes your plans may change.

All credit/refund requests must be made at least three days prior to the start of a program. Refund requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and may be subject to a $20 processing fee. Refunds can be added to your household account or issued via check or credit card; no cash refunds. Please allow three weeks to receive a refund. We reserve the right to cancel or combine classes; a full refund will be issued if we cancel a class. Your payment will be credited to your household account, and you will be notified to discuss your options.

Important Information LAKEWOOD POSSIBILITIES FUND All residents should have access to the City of Lakewood’s programs and facilities, regardless of income. If you are in need of financial assistance in order to participate, submit an easy application online or at any Lakewood recreation facility to check your eligibility. Possibilities Fund scholarships are awarded based on household income and as funding allows. A portion of the registration fee is always paid by the participant.

Health & Wellness Services HOT MEAL DEAL Volunteers of America dining room offers hot, nutritious meals for people age 60 or older and includes fun activities for socializing and wellness before and during the meal. These socializing activities may change monthly. Wellness activities before lunch include the following: MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS SilverSneakers® Yoga SECOND AND FOURTH WEDNESDAYS Blood pressure checks TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS SilverSneakers® Classic Meals are served Monday–Thursday and the first Friday of each month at noon. Come eat, enjoy and socialize! A $2.50 contribution ($8.50 charge for those under age 60) is requested for meals. LOW-VISION SUPPORT GROUP

Monitor your health with monthly blood pressure screenings provided by a retired RN.

The Jefferson County Senior Low-Vision Program, funded by a state grant, offers free information, referral, education, training, support and advocacy to persons with macular degeneration or other low-vision conditions and to persons who are blind.

Health & Wellness Services MASSAGE THERAPY & REIKI Massage Therapy Massage can increase flexibility and range of motion, improve muscle/tendon/ligament elasticity and enhance circulation. Massage can help bring oxygen and nutrients to tissues for reduced risk of injury and a quicker recovery.

Reiki Reiki is a gentle healing technique that uses a light touch to balance the human energy system. Lakewood Rides offers door-through-door transportation to Lakewood’s residents who are 60 years old or older and persons with disabilities of any age. We provide transportation for medical and personal appointments, group and individual grocery shopping, employment and social trips.

We also provide rides to the Clements Center for the many services offered: activities, classes and Volunteers of America dining. Destination points can be anywhere within Lakewood as well as east to University Boulevard, west to Golden proper, north to 49th Avenue and south to Quincy Avenue.

Arts & Crafts Classes ALTERNATIVE TECHNIQUES IN WATERCOLOR Pour, spray and spatter your way to successful and fun watercolor painting using a variety of alternative techniques. Some painting experience required.

Create unusual effects with spray webbing, resists and learning to carve images out of negative space.

Shawn Winchester was hired as

a “computer dummy” by Xerox Corporation in 1985 when it was competing in the development of personal computing systems. Soon, she was assisting others on the helpline. She has worked with the City of Lakewood since 1999 and now helps folks all over the metro Denver area learn to use their computers and devices. She believes that “continued learning keeps the mind sharp!”

Fitness & Wellness Classes Clements Community Center classes provide inclusive, effective programs for any level of fitness. Ongoing participation will help build overall health and wellness. While instructors can provide modifications for different fitness levels, classes on the far ends of the challenge rankings have less flexibility for variations.

Wayne Harris In the summer of 2001, I started playing the piano for the VOA luncheons at the Clements Center. This was part of the Lakewood Kiwanis Club where three club members were assigned to three one-month gigs at various locations. My last month was at the Clements Center, and from there I decided to offer my services weekly. I have been at the piano nearly every week since and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!

Sixty-five years ago, playing in a dance band, I came to develop a deep appreciation for the music of the swing era and the ballads of the 1950s. I consider this to be the golden age of contemporary music.

My recent stroke in late March has hampered my ability to perform in the manner I like.

However, my recovery process is slowly bringing me back to where I want to be.

I also extend my deep gratitude to Gene Martin, who accompanies me on the drums.

Gene has been an inspiration and is essential for keeping my proper timing and rhythm in line for each tune I try to “bang out” on the 88s.

I look forward to continuing my volunteer association with the Clements Center and the VOA lunch program.
