DISTRICT ELECTIONS AHEAD

On Monday night, the City Council will be considering an agenda item to transition to district-based elections. Under district-based elections, the voters select one City Councilmember who lives in and represents their district. This would replace the current system where voters can vote for all members of the City Council.

As with many cities that have transitioned to districts, this item is being taken up because the City received a legal challenge to the current system of elections. If Council adopts the resolution, this will initiate a series of meetings where the Council and the public can provide feedback on what the districts may look like.

To learn more about the proposed action on Monday and the tentative timeline to transition to districts, visit www.healdsburg.gov/agendas

SEASONAL ELECTRIC RATE UPDATES

WINTER IS COMING!

Did you know City Electric bills for the month of November will reflect the seasonal change for all customers from summer to winter?

Residential customers will see a change in the average kilowatt hours (kWh) allocated per day. What does that mean? It means the baseline allotment for Tier 1 will increase. By allocating more kWh in Tier 1, this will have a favorable impact on your monthly utility bill.

The November utility bill will also reflect the rate increase adopted by the City Council in 2023. For more information on the Electric rates, visit: Healdsburg Electric Rates. For information on available resources to increase your energy efficiency, visit SmartLivingHealdsburg.

DEPLOYMENT OF ADDITIONAL AIR QUALITY SENSORS IN HEALDSBURG

Great news for Healdsburg! In collaboration with Pepperwood Preserve, the City has been working on installing additional air quality sensors throughout Healdsburg. This initiative will empower residents with realtime air quality data during critical events and will help the City track long-term trends. The sensors are now live across most of the city! Track air quality in your neighborhood and stay informed by visiting https://openmap.clarity.io/.

As you cook up a feast...don't forget that fats, oils, and grease (FOGs) clog your pipes - and harm the environment!

Too often grease is washed into the plumbing system (usually through the kitchen sink) sticking to the insides of sewer pipes. Over time, grease can build up both on your property and in the public mains - and block the entire pipe. Blockages can result in an expensive and pretty unpleasant cleanup.

Here's some simple steps on how you can help:

Never pour grease down sinks or drains, or into toilets

Scrape grease and food scraps into a can or the trash for disposal

Put baskets or strainers in sink drains to catch food scraps and other solids

For more information on how to properly dispose of FOGs, visit zerowastesonoma.gov/materials/oil-cooking-grease.
