Join us in celebrating Juneteenth!
June 19th symbolizes freedom, celebrates the abolishment of slavery, reminds all Americans of the significant contributions of African Americans to our society, and is a time for reflection and rejoicing. On Monday, June 16, City Council will issue a Proclamation declaring June 19, 2025 as Juneteenth in the City of Healdsburg.
The Juneteenth Celebration will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 2:00–8:00 p.m. in the Healdsburg Plaza. Hosted by Healdsburg Jazz in collaboration with the City of Healdsburg, this free public event commemorates Juneteenth with a vibrant mix of live jazz performances, cultural education, interactive workshops, and family-friendly activities.
This year’s musical lineup features three acclaimed acts: Tyreek McDole Quintet (starting at 3:00 p.m.)
Orrin Evans Trio (starting at 5:00 p.m.)
The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol with her all-star trio and a string quartet (starting at 7:00 p.m.)

The group’s performance will blend concert pieces, danceable tunes, and original works that honor these musical pioneers

On June 2, 2025, the Council issued a Proclamation recognizing June 2025 as Gun Violence Awareness Month in the City of Healdsburg. Chief of Police Matt Jenkins was in attendance to receive the proclamation.
In 2023, the Council adopted an ordinance relating to the safe storage of firearms and made it a Council priority to educate the public on safe storage options available in the community. The safe storage ordinance places additional restrictions on residents and visitors of Healdsburg pertaining to the safe storage of firearms. All persons are required to keep a firearm within any residence in a locked container or disabled with a trigger lock, unless the firearm is carried upon the person or is otherwise in the immediate control and possession of a person in accordance with applicable local, state and federal law.
Additionally, any person who owns or possesses a firearm shall report the theft or loss of the firearm to the City of Healdsburg Police Department within 48 hours of the time the persons suspected or new the firearm had been lost or stolen.
For additional information on safe storage, click here or scan the QR Code below.
While the grape leaf has been part of the City’s logo for many years, it's not the official flower, plant, or tree for the City.
The City asked the Healdsburg Garden Club for assistance in identifying a short list of candidates that are native to Healdsburg and have ecological, cultural, or economic value. City Council reviewed the Garden Club's nominations and wanted the opportunity for the community to provide feedback on the nominations.
The survey is available in both English and Spanish: English Spanish
For more information about the nominations please visit: www.healdsburg.gov/cityflowerplanttree
The survey will be open until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9.
The Healdsburg Fire Department, in collaboration with CAL FIRE, will be conducting two prescribed burns on Fitch Mountain next week as part of our comprehensive wildfire mitigation strategy.
The first prescribed burn is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, in the foothills above Fitch Mountain Villa Commons. The burn will begin at 8:00 AM and continue throughout the day, conditions permitting. This operation supports defensible space efforts near residential neighborhoods and previously treated areas, enhancing safety for both the public and first responders
The second burn is planned for Wednesday, June 18, on the upper slopes of Fitch Mountain within the Open Space Preserve. This project targets dense vegetation and accumulated fuels that pose a significant wildfire risk. By reducing these hazards, the burn supports forest health and long-term community safety.
These prescribed burns represent the culmination of hundreds of hours of site preparation, including masticating brush, creating fire breaks, and carefully coordinating across agencies. This preparation ensures that each burn can be conducted as safely and effectively as possible.
Prescribed fire is a critical tool in wildfire risk reduction. Benefits include:
Reducing hazardous vegetation and ladder fuels
Improving ecosystem health in fireadapted landscapes
Enhancing firefighter safety and operational effectiveness
Protecting homes, infrastructure, and evacuation routes
These burns are part of Healdsburg’s broader wildfire resilience strategy and support long-term environmental stewardship goals
WhattoExpect
Smoke may be visible in and around Healdsburg on both days.
Crews will be on scene throughout the duration of the operations to monitor and manage fire activity.
Both burns are weather-dependent and will only proceed if conditions are safe and appropriate.
All resources and personnel from Healdsburg Fire Department and CAL FIRE are confirmed and ready. We are also grateful to receive operational support from our neighbors at Northern Sonoma County Fire District, who will be assisting during the burn operations
Fitch Mountain Open Space access will be closed during the burn
