BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Join us in celebrating Black History Month!

The month of February celebrates, honors and recognizes, Black History, achievements and contributions to our Nation’s collective story. Black History is American History. On Monday, February 3, City Council issued a Proclamation recognizing February 2025 as Black History Month in the City of Healdsburg.

STORM RECAP

This week the City of Healdsburg received a decent amount of rain. City staff were busying responding to weather related issues, providing mutual aid to the County of Sonoma from a slide on Fitch Mountain and managing localized flooding around town. The Russian River came very close to flood stage on Wednesday night but crested just below flood stage. Fitch Mountain Park and Open Space Preserve and the Healdsburg Ridge also has storm related impacts that will need to be cleaned up in the next couple of weeks. We ask that you please exercise caution when using these parks over the next few weeks.

WELCOME, HEALDSBURG HIGH SCHOOL INTERNS!

We are excited to host 12 high school juniors as part of Healdsburg High’s internship program. Healdsburg High School offers the only internship program of its kind in Sonoma County. The students have matched with departments that overlap with their future interests including Fire, Police, Water/Wastewater, Public Works, and Information Technology. This internship offers students the opportunity to explore and learn about different career paths, and we are excited to show them all what working for local government has to offer!

MARIE SPARKS VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS

Marie Sparks was a woman who embodied the generous and unselfish spirit of volunteerism in Healdsburg. Upon her death in 1995, the Healdsburg City Council wished to remember Marie’s giving and unselfish spirit with the Annual Marie Sparks Memorial Volunteer Award.

The City of Healdsburg is actively seeking nominations for the 2024 Marie Sparks Volunteer of the Year Award. Nominees need to volunteer their time in Healdsburg and reside within the Healdsburg 95448 zip code. If you know of an outstanding volunteer now is the time to recognize them. The nominees will be reviewed and selected in early March. Recipients will be honored at the City Council Meeting on Monday, April 7th at 6:00 pm.

Join Zero Waste Sonoma, the Conservation Corps North Bay, and CalRecycle as they host residential solar panel collection events!

To participate in this grant funded program, panels must be generated by a resident (not a business) in Sonoma County. Residents can bring a maximum of 40 panels.
