The annual Clothes Swap Day returns for 2025 on Tuesday 17 June from 9:30 to 11:30am
Bring your unwanted clothes and leave with a new wardrobe. De-clutter your wardrobe of clothes that are still in good condition, but you no longer wear either because your style has changed, or the item no longer fits you. Come and have a cuppa and make new friends
Clothing Swap Party Rules
1. Clothes must be in good wearable condition and washed. No ripped, torn, holey or stained clothing allowed.
2. Other items are welcome e.g. shoes, accessories, (bags, belts, jewellery), unopened beauty items.
3. Everyone needs to arrive before the actual swapping begins – 9:30 am.
4. People can try on a couple of things at a time before returning unwanted items to the labelled clothing areas and taking some more items to try on. Ultimately everyone is welcome to claim as many items as they want regardless of how many they brought along with them.
5. Clothes can only be taken from the designated labelled areas, not other people’s personal piles
6. The leftover clothes at the end of the day, will be donated to the Little Cottage – Op shop at the Anglican Cathedral
Clothes can be delivered to the centre from Monday 9 June. Contact QEII Centre on 9956 6636
The QEII Seniors & Community Centre is provided by the City of Greater Geraldton and funded by the State Government through the Department of Communities

RECIPES FRM THE HEART
by Rosetta
Flourless Yoghurt Cake
INGREDIENTS
4 large eggs separated
¼ teaspoon fine sea salt
100gms sugar
325gms plain Greek yogurt, 2% fat content or higher
METHOD
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
6 tablespoons (50gms) cornflour
1. Preheat oven to 325°F (170°C). Line a 7-inch (18 cm) round springform pan or cake pan with baking paper so it sticks up at least an inch (2.5cm) all the way around. Flatten the creases the best you can. To get the best rise and fluffiest cake, it’s important to use this small size of pan. If you use a larger pan (no bigger than 8-inch/20cm) the yogurt cake will be flatter and not quite as fluffy but still taste as good.
2. Using a mixer beat the egg whites with the salt until they are stiff.
3. In a separate bowl beat the yolks and sugar until pale yellow and fluffy. This will take 3 to 4 minutes on high speed. Beat in the yogurt and vanilla. Then add the cornflour and continue beating until it is mixed in.
4. Fold the beaten egg whites into the yolk/yogurt mixture one third at a time. Gently fold in until only pea-sized pockets of beaten whites remain. Don’t over-fold. Pour the batter into the baking pan. Bang it on the counter a few times to get any air bubbles to rise.
5. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, until the centre no longer feels liquid when gently pressed with your finger, and the edges are nicely browned.
6. Allow the cake to cool in the pan, then lift it out using the paper and gently peel off the paper. Serves 6 to 8.
Note: The cake will puff up gloriously in the oven and then fall somewhat as it cools. Decorate with of sprinkle of icing sugar/ whipped cream/ fresh fruit.

Snippets of My Life
With Jaye Allan
Ever thought who we become and how we spend our lives can be started early by other people and/ or changed when we like by ourselves?
Born in Perth. A grandma sewed me a giant panda on her Singer sewing machine for my first birthday. Then we lived in England for 3 years. Back in Australia I learnt Mandarin Chinese at TAFE and Uni, went to China 5 times, adopted a giant panda for 10 years, lived and taught English there for 6, studied nature, plants and animals, wrote a Masters on improving conditions for pandas in zoos and 30 pages in the Journal of International Wildlife Law & Policy on what was/wasn’t happening with pandas in the wild… At school in Merredin mum taught French and German and we had Italian neighbours, so I loved languages and cultures. Our family travelled through Europe. As a kid TV news about starving kids in Africa made me cry. From the first Global Greens Conference in Canberra in 2001 for 16 years I did all the interpreting and
translating French/English for African Greens partiesfor free. Then hubby and I went to Africa to help them over there. And we have Aborigines in the family. Since 2013 Geraldton’s our home. I taught English at Grammar School, was on the Midwest Multiculticultural Association committee and in Birdlife Midwest. I love music, play gourd flute and sing, do art: draw, paint, do pottery and sculpt. Thanks to the QEII I’ve taught French and German here, run a Multicultural Choir singing in over 30 languages, including Wajarri before Covid and love Gentle Gym! If anyone’d like language lessons or singing again, just let me know. Thanks, Geraldton!

How many times have you taken a photo on your smart phone and cut your subjects heads off or their legs even?
Have you given up trying to take that perfect selfie, to capture a special moment, either alone or with friends and family?During the last two weeks of May our classes have been combined as Roger took his well-earned break.
During this time we explored the seven main tips to help us produce that ‘perfect’ photo. Through Be Connected we were able to watch a video and learn these very easy manouvres, pratice them together in class and realise that great picture!
This doesn’t mean, of course, that our other photos are rejects (unless people are without heads and legs). We then moved on to learn how to edit our photo by cropping what we really didn’t want and highlighting what we did want.
Ultimately, we then learned/refreshed how to send that photo to a friend and delete the photo if desired. We can see from our photo how focused the students were and eager to learn these tips.
Cropping a photo is only one of the ways we can edit a photo and during our last session in May we explored other options together, which included making some old photographs digital
Quite a few students in our continuing class seem to be having problems with storage, and it may be the case that this could be the focus for June, when Roger will return. Tidying smart phones is a good way to reduce the amount of storage and also software updates, which are very important!
We currently have 6 places vacant in the beginner’s class, please call the number below for further details.
Please contact us on 0474 639 961 if you wish to join or visit either of our classes which are held at the Centre on Thursday mornings at 9 am until 10 am, and also for one-to-one appointments on Tuesday mornings.

As winter finally arrives in Geraldton, we hope you’re staying cosy and well.
The month of June’s flower is the rose symbolising friendship and appreciation, and the birthstone is the beautiful Pearl which brings wisdom and grace .
Our General Meeting was held Tuesday 13th May, with Trevor Hanson kindly opening the meeting. The minutes were read, and 28 members joined in for the session. We topped it all off with a tasty lunch of fish, chips, and salad, plus profiteroles and ice cream to sweeten the day!
We are pleased to welcome1 new member!
Lucky Card winners: Lynne Blackmore and Pat Parker. Congratulations.
One Happy 99th Birthday Card & one Get Well Card was sent. Thanks Val.
The club would like to say a big thank you to Pauline Fowler for the fantastic job she’s done as Secretary over the past three years. We really appreciate the time, effort, and care she put into the role.
Members enjoyed a delightful and heartfelt presentation from our guest speaker Heather Allen who shared
stories inspired by her collection of “My Treasures.”
In 1972, just before leaving London, she purchased a large tin trunk to store the many personal items she couldn’t take on the bus journey. That trunk, which travelled with her from London to Kathmandu on a Penn Overland bus tour, became a time capsule filled with meaningful memories.
Over the years, the trunk held menus from flights and ships (including a 1967 Trans Australia rail trip and a 1970 restaurant in Jasper, Canada), clothing, souvenirs, and even a needlework book from her grandmother. She spoke about a macrame handbag project she never finished, and a Christmas card stand from her early days.
One of the most moving part of her talk was the collection of handwritten and typed letters she sent home from 1970 to 1972 carefully kept by her late mother in an ice cream container for over 50 years. Re-reading them recently brought back vivid memories of her adventures and friendships.
“Life is a journey, ups, downs, and roundabouts, but we need to embrace and enjoy.”
Her presentation was a beautiful reminder of how ordinary items can carry extraordinary stories, and how preserving our personal history enriches our lives and connects generations.

Pensioners Social Club
On a fine morning, I walked with my friends into the QEII, and we were surprised by a table of Mother’s Day presents beautifully wrapped and stacked, welcoming us.
After President Val Brown’s welcome and the last month’s minutes being read, we listened to the financial report. We then discussed the proposed bus trip to Kalbarri.
We urgently need more members to sign up to make the trip happen. Please think about joining us for the day.
We sang happy birthday to Betty Clark who never misses a meeting and is an active member of the QEII Centre. We thanked Mark for helping to set up the hall for the function.
We were then encouraged to look at the forms and to think about joining the committee in the July election. Please think about this seriously as some people would like to retire due to health reasons.
While still in the discussion all eyes went to Rosetta bringing in a beautiful cake so we could celebrate the club’s 22nd birthday/ Mother’s Day in style.
Lunch was beautifully prepared and after eating
our sweets and a piece of special cake we had trouble getting up to go to the cars. I’ve personally been a member for over 18 months, and I don’t understand why more pensioners join us for the special meetings. Come and try it sometime, I’m` sure you will enjoy it.
