COOKIES WITH COUNCILORS

Monday, June 2, 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Pedal or stroll with your Councilors starting at Heritage Dells Park (316 Crawford Street) for Walk-Ride Golden Cookies with Councilors! Meet us in the park for a scenic ride, scoot, or walk along the many trails that intersect the area. We’ll chat about trail connections and how to make biking and walking even better in Golden. This event is kid-friendly— bring the whole family including friendly, leashed dogs! Parking is available at Shelton Elementary School (420 Crawford Street).

LIONS PARK PLAYGROUND RENOVATION

The City is beginning the design process for a new playground at Lions Park that will be accessible, inclusive of all ages, and offer a variety of engaging play experiences. While these core values are a given, the creative direction— the look, feel, and unique features of the space—is a blank canvas for you and your children to play on! Share your ideas at in-person pop-up events at the park on Saturday, May 17, and Monday, May 19, or take the survey at www.guidinggolden.com between May 17–31.

HEART OF GOLDEN

East End Amenities and Clear Creek Corridor

The Heart of Golden project aims to make the Clear Creek Corridor more usable and desirable for residents while providing needed space for Police and City services. This meeting will focus on the East Creek Corridor and Lions Park.

THE BROAD STROKES

What Else is Going on in Golden Right Now?

Summer at the Golden Community Center: Plan your summer with the latest Recreation Guide, available at rec.cityofgolden.gov! Summer hours at the GCC run May 27–September 1, with the facility open Monday–Thursday, 5:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m., Friday, 5:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Saturday, 7:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., and Sunday, 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Parking enforcement is now in effect for GCC lots; stop by the front desk to make sure your license plate is registered to avoid fines.

Biking Downtown Just Got Easier: Golden is now even more bike-friendly! Look for new downtown bike racks (including heavy-duty options for e-bikes), fresh wayfinding signs, and updated maps to help you navigate trails and streets. Scan the QR code to grab your map and plan your next ride.

Ulysses Park Update: The Ulysses Park redevelopment is progressing, and phased re-openings are already underway! The skate park is now open, and the north parking lot, ball fields, and relocated dog park will reopen early Summer 2025. The south parking lot, new buildings, and playground are expected by the end of the year. New athletic fields are coming Spring 2026. Thanks for your patience as we build a better park for everyone! Visit www.guidinggolden.com for updates.

Clear Creek Clean-up Volunteer Opportunity: Pitch in to keep Golden’s trails, parks, and creek corridor beautiful! Join weekly volunteer cleanups to pick up litter along the creek. Monday cleanups start June 2 at 7:00 a.m. at the Golden History Museum patio. Saturday cleanups begin July 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the 10th & Archer lot. We provide protective gear—just bring your energy! Learn more and sign up at www.cityofgolden.gov/volunteer.

Using Water Wisely: Irrigation season is here and so are ways to save! Take advantage of rebates for efficient watering systems, schedule a free Slow the Flow audit, or join our Lawn Replacement Program to create a beautiful, low-water garden. Learn more at www.cityofgolden.gov/sustainability

Golden Police Honor Service and Sacrifice: At its 22nd Annual Awards Ceremony, the Golden Police Department recognized outstanding service and leadership. Detective Nicco Fanelli-Poole was named Employee of the Year. Officer Bethany Grusing received the Purple Heart and Medal of Valor. Several awards were presented in memory of Officer Evan Dunn, who died in the line of duty in November 2024.

Have Fun, Stay Safe on Clear Creek: Clear Creek is a dynamic, fast-moving creek, not a lazy river. Hazards like debris, cold temperatures, and high-water levels pose serious risks, especially before the official season begins around late June. Flag warnings help gauge safety: Green means open to all, Yellow signals caution for minors, Red restricts tubing and swimming, and Double Red indicates closure due to extreme danger. Tubers and paddlers must respect these flags, wear proper gear, and always prioritize safety in this unique aquatic environment.
