COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

In response to COVID-19, Georgetown Parks and Recreation has modified its program offerings in accordance with state and local guidelines to provide the safest possible environment for participants and staff. The following guidelines will apply to all instructor-led programs offered by Georgetown Parks and Recreation.

For the safety of our staff and all participants, we ask that you do not participate in the program if any of the following apply: • Known close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 • Fever greater or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath • Cough, sore throat, chills, headache, diarrhea, nausea, body aches, or loss of taste or smell • Awaiting the results of a COVID test All program areas will address protocols for face masks, physical distancing, and sanitization requirements. Participation in each program will be dependent upon acceptance and willingness to follow these protocols. HOW TO REGISTER

CANCELLATION & WITHDRAWAL POLICY

Registration for spring/summer programs opens on February 1. Fees are based on residency. Residents must live inside the Georgetown City Limits. Nonresidents live outside the City Limits, in the ETJ or another city.

DEPARTMENT CANCELLATIONS Recreation programs must meet minimum participant requirements 3 days prior to start date of the course.

Courses not meeting minimum requirements will be canceled. Full refunds will be issued for departmental cancellations.

ONLINE

Online registration is available 24/7 at georgetownparks. perfectmind.com. You must create a PerfectMind account to register online.

PROGRAMS AND CLASSES Full refunds will only be given if notice is received 3 or more days prior to the start of program. If notice is received less than 3 days prior to the start of the program, a partial refund may be issued based on any classes attended, plus a 20% withdrawal fee will be held.

No refunds will be given for no shows or missed classes.

YOUTH ATHLETIC LEAGUES Full refunds will only be given if notice is received 14 or more days prior to the start of the program. IN-PERSON

DAY CAMPS/SUMMER CAMPS Refunds, minus the 20% nonrefundable deposit, will only be given if notice is received 7 or more days prior to the start of camp. No refunds will be given with less than 7 days’ notice. Complete refunds (including deposits) will only be given for departmental cancellations. Because of staffing requirements, fees will not be prorated for partial attendance. Summer camp tuition is based on a full week.

We welcome in-person registrations at the Georgetown Recreation Center and the Georgetown Tennis Center.

PAYMENTS ACCEPTED

CHALLENGE COURSE PROGRAMS/PRIVATE OUTDOOR ADVENTURES A 20% nonrefundable reservation deposit is due at the time of booking. The remaining program balance is due 14 days prior to the program start date. If the balance is not paid in full 14 days prior, the program will be canceled, and the 20% reservation deposit will be forfeited. Refunds, minus the 20% nonrefundable reservation deposit, will only be given if notice is received 14 or more days prior to the program start date. No refund will be given with less than 14 days’ notice. For weather-related cancellations, an attempt will be made to reschedule the program. If rescheduling is not an option, a complete refund (including the deposit) will be issued.

We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover. We can also take cash, or checks made payable to the City of Georgetown.

The City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department will provide reasonable accommodations to individuals with a disability. Please contact our administrative office at 512-930-3595 at least one month before the start of a program or event to discuss any accommodations that may be necessary.

One solid hour of abs, arms and legs. Light weights for those who want to improve muscle tone and bone density. No coordination required!

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscle strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a Silver Sneakers ball are offered for resistance.

A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support. This class can be adapted by the student depending on their fitness level and abilities. It is suitable for beginning to intermediate skill levels.

Balance and strength combining a flow of dance moves. The class will finish on the floor with core Pilates work.

A fun, shallow-water exercise class that uses a signature splashboard to increase movement and intensity options.

Splash is suitable for all skill levels and is safe for non-swimmers.

Never the same twice, this class uses group and individual sports, games and exercises to improve cardiovascular health, endurance, flexibility, muscle tone and strength.

TABATA™ (I/A)

A total body workout in just 45 minutes! Interval workout with 20 seconds of high-intensity exercise followed by 10 seconds in an active rest state, repeated for a 30 minute routine. Finish with 15 minutes of ab work and stretching.

High-intensity class improves endurance and strength through intervals and recovery periods using a special stationary bike, all indoors.

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese practice to exercise the mind and the body through a series of gentle, flowing postures (choreographed movements) combined into standardized forms. Tai Chi Basics focuses on shorter Tai Chi and Qigong forms (usually fewer than 20 postures). TAI CHI YANG 24 FORM

Tai Chi is a series of slow-moving Chinese martial arts movements combined into standardized forms that exercises both the mind and body. The Yang 24 Form (a series of 24 movements) introduces the essential elements of Tai Chi, while retaining the flavor of the traditional longer forms. Benefits of Tai Chi include improved range of motion, increased lung capacity, better circulation, and improved balance.

TAI CHI 42 - SWORD FORM

Tai Chi also includes forms that use weapons, including a variety of swords. The 42 Sword Form is a contemporary (1991) standardized form combining movements from the four major styles of Tai Chi – Yang, Chen, Sun and Wu. This form is more challenging due to its length and the variety of styles included. Tai Chi sword forms offer the same health benefits as non-weapon forms including improved posture and range of motion, better balance, greater lung capacity, and improved mental focus. A sword can be borrowed from the instructor, but students should plan to purchase their own sword. Swords should be made of wood or plastic without a sharpened edge.

FINE ARTS PAINT YOUR OWN POTTERY

Provided by Splatters, splatters.biz. Come paint pottery at the Georgetown Recreation Center! Core miscellaneous items will be offered at each event, along with fun seasonal pieces.

Participants will paint during the scheduled event time, then leave items with the vendor. Splatters will glaze and fire everything and return items to the Recreation Center. You will be contacted when your item is ready. *In order to enforce COVID19 distancing and to make sure we have enough inventory, each person painting must pre-register for a seating and choose items to be painted.

Learn the basics of digital photography using your own camera in this fun hands-on course! Instruction will include an introduction to digital photography, how to use the functions on your camera, landscape photography, photographing people, intro to Adobe Photoshop Elements, optimizing your photos in Photoshop Elements, black and white photography, and magic of light.

Class will be held via Zoom. Instructor Mary Ann Melton has won numerous photo awards and has had works published in Texas Highways magazine.

BALLROOM DANCING

Through fun movement and positive curriculum, your young dancer will improve skills and learn the choreography for the group routine each week. Each course will feature a new routine to be performed for the families on the last day!

ADULT SAND VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

The Adult Sand Volleyball League is a recreational program that consists of a seven week season and a week of guaranteed playoffs. We offer both a competitive and a recreational division and encourage fun and physical activity. If there are not enough teams in a division, the divisions will be combined.

Games will be played on Sunday afternoons at the sand volleyball courts at McMaster Athletic Complex. League play consists of 4V4 co-ed volleyball. Game times will be determined by the number of teams that register for each division. Participants must be at least 18 years old at the start of the program.

PICKLEBALL Join us to learn about one of the fastest-growing sports in America! Described as a combination of tennis, badminton and ping pong, pickleball is fast-paced and tons of fun. The Georgetown Tennis Center now has pickleball lines on two of our tennis courts.

Our Challenge Course program is an experiential approach to team-building that involves a series of individual or group activities. The experiential approach is based on the idea that change and growth take place when people are active physically, socially, intellectually, and emotionally and are involved in their learning rather than just being receivers of information. Our experienced facilitators engage their groups in activities that give the participants opportunities to take ownership of their learning. We create situations that allow participants to actively explore and practice concepts they are learning and facilitate the practice of reflection on how these lessons relate to the participant’s current and future real-life situations. Programs are custom designed to meet the needs of your group and is certain to inspire, motivate, and promote engagement.

We encourage a preliminary visit to our course to tour the facility and discuss your group’s goals so that we may prepare a program suited to your needs. LET’S PLAY PICKLEBALL! Play the game that’s sweeping the nation! Pickleball is easy to learn and provides great exercise, is soft on the joints, but fast enough to keep players engaged. Played on a badminton-sized court with special paddles and a ball similar to a wiffle ball, the game is accessible to players of all ages and abilities. Indoor Pickleball is included in Georgetown Recreation Center memberships. Paddles and balls are provided. Outdoor Pickleball courts are located in the northeast corner of the McMaster Athletic Complex. The courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and players must provide their own paddles and balls.

PARK PROJECTS NEIGHBORHOOD PARK DEVELOPMENT

Golden Bear Park, 107 Golden Bear Drive, opened to the public in October 2020. Park amenities include two playgrounds, one appropriate for children ages 2-5, and one for ages 5-12, a double bay swing with both tot and belt swings, benches, a bike rack, a water fountain, and walking trails. Additional amenities, including exercise equipment, is scheduled to be installed this spring.

The parkland located at 2100 Hutto Road will be redeveloped this year. This park has been the site of a community garden since 2003. Improvements and amenities include a restroom, pavilion, accessible parking and access, updated signage, and entry access renovations. The garden area will be fenced and will have consistent bed sizes, accessible beds, and in-ground beds.

Estimated completion is expected in the fall.

SAN GABRIEL PARK PHASE III DESIGN

Design for the renovations to Phase III of San Gabriel Park are expected to begin in Fiscal Year 2022 pending budget approval.

PARK PROJECTS PARKS AND RECREATION MASTER PLAN

An update to the City’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan is scheduled for 2021. The last master plan update was adopted by City Council in 2009. Starting in the spring of 2021 there will be opportunity for public input and discussion which will help guide the development of the master plan. This document establishes community priorities and is used as a guideline on how parks should be developed.

HIKE AND BIKE TRAIL EXTENSIONS

The trail extension connecting San Gabriel Park to the Katy Crossing Subdivision was completed in April 2020. This ½ mile extension features a ten-foot-wide concrete trail with seating and an overlook area which allows a great view of the Katy train trestle bridge over the San Gabriel River.

South San Gabriel River Trail

A new trail extension from University Avenue to IH35 behind the new Wolf Crossing Shopping Center is currently under design. This ¾ mile concrete trail will be ten-foot-wide and run along the scenic South San Gabriel River. The trail will connect to a recently completed section of regional trail behind the Wolf Ranch Shopping Center built by the Wolf Ranch development. Construction is expected to start in the fall and take approximately eight months to complete.

PARK PAVILIONS

PAVILIONS AT GAREY PARK

Pavilions are available for reservations up to a year in advance.

Any pavilion that is not reserved can be used on a first come, first served basis. Fees vary based on length of reservation and address of the renter.

Garey Park offers five covered pavilions that surround the Play Ranch. Pavilions are available for reservations up to a year in advance. Any pavilion that is not reserved can be used on a first come, first served basis. Fees vary based on length of reservation and address of the renter.

Your pavilion fee includes entry into Garey Park for all your guests, up to the capacity of the pavilion.

The Event Room and lap lanes at the Recreation Center Indoor Pool are available to rent year-round. Outdoor pools are available to rent in June, July and August. 445 E. MORROW ST. The Georgetown Community Center is located in San Gabriel Park, and may be rented for special occasions such as weddings, reunions, parties, meetings or family gatherings. Reservations may be made up to one year in advance. Amenities include: a kitchen, tables and chairs, P.A. system, barbecue pits and a courtyard. The capacity is 440.

Garey House has approximately 2,000 square feet of combined indoor event space, best suited for intimate events of 50-80 guests. The property also includes nearly 7,500 square feet of combined outdoor event space, which can accommodate larger events with up to 125 guests.

The McMaster Athletic Complex offers four softball fields with covered seating, two soccer fields, four sand volleyball courts, and a multi-purpose field that can be used for football, soccer and lacrosse. Other amenities include a concession stand, restrooms, playground, water mister, horseshoe and washer pits, pickleball courts, picnic areas and a large parking lot.

The newest completed mural, The K9 Heroes Mural “Best Friends” by J Muzacz and Jay Rivera (top), is located at 205 West 6th Street and is the artwork selected by the Georgetown Arts and Culture Board for the project, “Healing Arts for Veterans” that received grant funding from the Texas Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
