A Safe Place Georgetown Utility Systems One of the many places in Georgetown where youth can find support is on our city streets. When the youth of Georgetown need a caring adult to help them out of a sticky situation, they don’t have to look far for a safe place – the nearest utility truck may be just around the corner. Georgetown utility workers know how to help youth in crisis, thanks to A Safe Place community program.

Every year, Georgetown Utility Systems employees visit local schools to talk with students about the program. Kids learn that whenever they see the Safe Place logo on a city vehicle or a city building, they can go there for help if needed. These visits help remind students about the project and encourage them to use the service. To ensure the integrity of the program, all participating employees go through background checks and at least two hours of training on how to deal with youth in crisis situations. For questions regarding the “A Safe Place” program please contact Customer Care at (512) 930-3640.

POLICIES Inclement Weather Policy: Pools close for 30 minutes every time lightning or thunder is present. When this occurs, everyone will be asked to get out of the water immediately, and the 30-minute countdown will start over each time lightning strikes or thunder is heard. This may result in lessons/classes being cancelled for the day. While one missed lesson or class will not be made up, if there is a second cancellation due to bad weather, arrangements may be made to make up the lost time by adding additional time to remaining classes, depending on the course. The City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department will make all lesson cancellations due to inclement weather with the safety of our participants in mind and cancellations will be made 30 minutes prior to class. Transfer/Refund Policy: Payment for each class session is due at time of registration. Refunds/transfers will only be given if notice is received 7 or more days prior to the start of an Aquatic Program. No refund/transfer will be given with less than 7 days notice. Complete refunds will only be given for departmental cancellations. Because of staffing requirements, fees will not be prorated for partial attendance. Waiting List: Due to instructor/participant ratios, each class and program will have a maximum number of spots available. Once the class maximum has been reached, subsequent registrants will be notified that the class is full and you will have the option to be placed on a waiting list. Should spots become available, program openings will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis from registrants that appear on the waiting list. 2018 FALL/WINTER

PARK PROJECTS

SAN GABRIEL PARK The first phase of San Gabriel Park is completed. Phase 1 improvements set the tone for how the rest of San Gabriel Park will be renovated. There are two new restrooms, a new playground and swings, new picnic pavilions and parking. New directional signage helps direct park visitors to the different park amenities. In addition, one of the springs along the San Gabriel River was also restored back to a more natural habitat. The construction of San Gabriel Park Phase 2 will start in July 2018. Improvements include additional pavilions, a new restroom, playground and swings, and a basketball court under the College Street bridge. Look for new parking areas along with the restoration of two additional springs along the river. San Gabriel Park Phase 2 is expected to be completed in summer 2019.

HIKE & BIKE TRAIL EXPANSION The City’s hike and bike trail will be expanded in conjunction with San Gabriel Park Phase 2 construction. This half-mile extension will connect San Gabriel Park to the Katy Crossing Subdivision along the San Gabriel River. This extension is expected to be completed by the summer of 2019.
