Benefits of Shopping Locally
Diamond Bar is home to a diverse collection of businesses waiting for you to try them out!

No matter what your shopping list entails, the store to meet your needs can be found within one of Diamond Bar’s many shopping centers. In the market for some new threads or accessories? The city’s various clothing stores will find you the perfect outfit. Need to take care of your furry friend? Animal grooming and care facilities will do the trick. Or maybe you’re just looking for some fun activities to experience? From CrossFit to meditation and billiards, Diamond Bar hosts something for everyone to enjoy. Hungry after all that shopping? Whether you’re in the mood for authentic pho, pizza, sushi or maybe some French pastries for dessert, excellent cuisine can be found all over town.
Shopping locally is mutually beneficial between you, local businesses, and the City. By buying from Diamond Bar’s independent stores, not only will you discover the myriad of fantastic goods and services hiding under your nose, you’ll also strengthen local bonds and keep these businesses thriving through increased demand, which will allow them to further flourish and expand, benefitting the City’s economy. Shopping locally isn’t just a transaction, it’s a social and fiscal investment into the community, and it goes a long way.

End-of-the-Year Extra Trash Pickup
From gift wrap to disposable dinnerware and napkins, the holiday season tends to produce more trash than usual. If you are a Waste Management customer, you can take advantage of its free end-ofthe-year collection service to get rid of up to three large bags or boxes of excess regular trash.
This program is available for two weeks starting December 26 but must be scheduled in advance by calling (800) 366-7551 at least 24 hours before your regularly scheduled collection day.
Please note bulky items (single pieces of trash that are too large to fit in regular trash cart), products containing hazardous materials or items with electronic components do not qualify to be picked up as part of this program. Collection of these kinds of waste must be scheduled separately by contacting the Waste Management.
Free Cab Ride to a Shopping Center
With the holiday gift-buying season in full swing, here’s a reminder that you can catch a free cab ride to and from any shopping center in town as part of the City’s annual Holiday Diamond Ride program. Aimed at supporting the local economy and keeping tax dollars in town, Holiday Diamond Ride is open to residents 18 years of age and older and runs until Sunday, January 1. Proof of Diamond Bar residency (license or utility bill) is required to participate. Questions may be directed to (909) 839-7045. To book a trip, call (800) 578-6555.

Holiday Tree Collection
Waste Management and Valley Vista Services will once again be collecting and recycling all live holiday trees set out for collection. To take advantage of this free service, simply remove the stand, ornaments, and decorations (including tinsel) and place your tree curbside or in your common bin location before 6 a.m. on your regularly scheduled collection day. Trees longer than seven feet must be cut in half. Any questions may be directed to Waste Management at (800) 266-7551 or Valley Vista Services at (800) 442-6454.

2023 City Calendar and Street Sweeping Schedule
New editions of the City’s popular annual street sweeping schedule magnet and calendar booklet are now available.
The street sweeping schedule indicates the weeks when residential streets are swept and the days when sweeping is delayed by one day because of an observed holiday, while the City calendar notes meeting days and provides information about key City services, programs and amenities. Electronic copies of both the magnet and booklet are available on the City’s website at www.diamondbarca.gov/ community. Those who prefer printed copies can pick them up at any of the following locations:

Internship Gives College Student Real Work Experience
This fall, the City is once again getting a helping hand from a college intern as part of a partnership with Mt. San Antonio College’s Work Experience program.
The City and Mt. SAC entered into the partnership in 2019, and since then several of their students have received hands-on experience in areas related to their majors in exchange for academic credits. So far, Mt. SAC interns have helped in the Finance Department, City Clerk’s Office, and Public Information Division.
Bryan Jimenez, a journalism major at Mt. SAC, is currently interning with the City’s Public Information Division.

“As a student journalist, one of my biggest goals is to inform the public and keep them in the loop of their local communities.”
“I learned about the internship through Mt. SAC’s journalism program, and I applied because it seemed like a good opportunity to sharpen my skills, add some experience to my portfolio and learn more about the intricacies of local government,” Bryan said.
After earning an associate degree in journalism from Mt. SAC, Bryan plans on transferring to USC, where he will pursue a bachelor’s degree in the same field.
Since starting his internship in midOctober, Bryan has put his education to work by writing articles, proofing communication materials, and working the information booth at Citysponsored special events.
Bryan is also working on a campaign
to promote shopping locally during the holiday season. As part of his campaign, he plans to write feature articles on Diamond Bar-based businesses that run the gamut from eateries to retailers and service providers. The articles will be shared on the City’s social media channels in the days leading up to Christmas Day. When asked what he enjoyed the most about his internship with the City, Bryan said he enjoyed every aspect but if he had to choose it would be “knowing that the effort I’m putting in is going towards something good.”
“As a student journalist, one of my biggest goals is to inform the public and keep them in the loop of their local communities,” Bryan said. “Knowing that the articles I’m writing or events I’m helping set up are for the purpose of exactly that, I feel satisfied.”
In addition to the Mt. SAC partnership, the City occasionally offers paid internships to college students and recent graduates. These internship openings are sent to all local colleges and universities, and listed alongside full- and part-time job opportunities on the City’s online career platform at www.diamondbarca.gov/jobs.
New Presentation Series to Focus on City Government
City
This new series, titled City Government Explained, will start in January 2023 and consist of eight monthly presentations. They will take place on the third Wednesday of the month at the Diamond Bar Center starting January and continuing until October (no presentations in June or July).
The aim of City Government Explained is to help residents gain a better understanding of City government including its structure, function, areas of responsibility, as well as how services and projects are funded, decisions are made, and laws are passed.
All presentations will start at 6 p.m. and run between 30-45 minutes with time for questions and discussion at the end. Participation is free open to Diamond Bar residents age 16 and older. Space is limited and advance online registration is required for each presentation by visiting www.diamondbarca.gov/recregister and typing City Government Explained in the search bar.
For more information, contact the City’s Public Information Division at publicinfo@diamondbarca.gov or (909) 839-7056.
City Recruiting Contract Class Instructors
If you have a special skill or fun hobby others will enjoy learning and a knack for teaching, the City wants to hear from you.
The Parks and Recreation Department is now taking proposals from individuals interested in teaching or leading a class or activity during the 2023 summer or fall season. Classes can be geared toward any age group, and they
can fit into any recreation or personal enrichment category such as arts, crafts, sports, music, health or fitness. The deadline for proposals is January 4 for the summer season and May 3 for the fall season.
More details, including proposal packets, are available for download on the City website at www.diamondbarca.gov/contractinstructor or can be requested by mail by calling (909) 839-7070.
The
is preparing to launch a new presentation series that will cover various aspects of Diamond Bar government.
Canyon Loop Trail Improvements

A 1.3-mile segment of trail in Summitridge Park is getting a series of improvements and amenities aimed at increasing and improving accessibility and safety while restoring and enhancing the area’s ecosystem.
The work involves widening the trail, constructing retaining walls at erosion-prone locations and cobblestone swales where drainage issues exist, and installing lodge pole fencing at certain locations to clearly define the trail.
Additionally, as part of the project, wayfinding signs will be placed in both directions of the trail, interpretive signage will be added depicting the area’s ecosystem, and three rest areas will be established at scenic lookouts, each with a shade structure, benches and trash receptacles.
When work is completed sometime in January 2023, this segment of the trail will connect to other sections of the park’s trail system.
Funding for the one-million-dollar project comes from several sources, including the State's Habitat Conservation Fund, County Measures A and W, and the City’s General Fund.
For more project details, visit www.diamondbarca.gov/canyonloop.
WEEKLY STREET SWEEPING
Mulch Giveaway and Free Paper Shredding on Dec. 17
A self-serve mulch area and on-site mobile paper shredding unit will be available to Diamond Bar residents on Saturday, December 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until mulch supply runs out and shredding truck reaches capacity.

Here is a reminder that street sweeping takes place weekly in December and January.
Street sweeping plays an important role in the collection and removal of dust, debris as well as heavy metals and other chemicals created by vehicles. Left unswept, these substances make their way into storm water drains, which flow untreated into waterways causing serious harm to humans, as well as marine life and plants.
Do your part to ensure the effectiveness of street sweeping in your neighborhood by moving your vehicle off a street scheduled for sweeping. Three ways to find out what day your street is swept:
Refer to the “No Parking” sign posted at the entrance of your neighborhood.
Visit www.diamondbarca.gov/gis and type your address into an interactive online map.
Download or pick up a copy of the 2023 street sweeping schedule. Electronic copy available at www.diamondbarca.gov/streetsweeping. Hard copies available at City Hall, the Diamond Bar Center, and the Diamond Bar Library.
Organized by the City in collaboration with Waste Management, both these free services are open only to residents, and require proof of a Diamond Bar address such a California ID, utility bill, or bank statement.

Mulch Giveaway
The mulch area is self-serve which means individuals must bring their own shovels and containers, and come prepared to collect their own mulch and load it onto their vehicle. There is a limit of 80 gallons per household.
Paper Shredding
Residents may bring up to two banker boxes, or two 13-gallon trash bags, full of sensitive or confidential documents and have them shredded on site while they wait. Documents must not be in binders or sheet protectors, or fastened with rubber bands or binder clips. Staples and paperclips are OK.
The AQMD parking lot is located at 21865 Copley Drive. Registration is not required, and the event will be held, rain or shine.
Any questions may be directed to the City’s Environmental Services Division at greendb@diamondbarca.gov or (909) 839-7015.
