Dad’s Belgian Waffle Breakfast - Sept. 7
The Annual Waffle Breakfast fundraiser will take place Saturday, Sept. 7 from 7:30 AM - 11:30 AM at the Delano Fire Station. Takeout will be available! Tickets will be $9.00 in advance, available at the Delano Senior Center or from a Delano Firefighter.

General Election - Absentee Voting & Important Dates
Absentee voting starts Friday, September 20, 2024, during regular office hours at City Hall (234 2nd Street N): Monday through Thursday: 7:30 AM to 5 PM and Friday: 8 AM to 12 PM (Noon).
First day to vote early in person: Friday, September 20
Last day to vote early in person: Monday, November 4

Delano City Council & Commission Meetings Recap

Planning Commission - Met on August 12
The Planning Commission recommended approval of a new subdivision in the West Metro Business Park They also recommended conditional approval of Conditional Use Permits (CUPs) and Planned Unit Developments (PUDs) for two businesses in the West Metro Business Park. The first CUP/PUD is for Delano Self-Storage LLC, a commercial rental self-storage facility. The second CUP/PUD is for Cemstone Product Company, a concrete production plant. The Planning Commission also recommended approval of a zoning ordinance amendment to incentivize the creation of affordable housing options during the residential PUD process. Finally, the Commission recommended approval of an updated shoreland overlay district that meets MNDNR regulations while also meeting Delano’s needs.
Public Safety Commission - Met on August 5
Public Safety Commission members were presented a report on Wright County Sheriff’s activities in Delano, including traffic stops, 911 responses, and investigations The Commission also received an overview of the Feasibility and Facility Study, which will address fire station needs Members received a brief history of the fire station, potential ideas moving forward, and possible funding resources The conversation pivoted to Tiger Dr , where a motion was made to move the speed limit sign to north of the Kings Crossing entrance, with the intention to study traffic and encourage drivers to slow down The motion carried The Commission also discussed the intersection between River St. and Park Ave, which used to have a crosswalk before it was rebuilt. The Commission is looking into signage to indicate that the sidewalk now ends at that intersection.
Spirit of Community Commission - Meeting canceled Park and Recreation Commission - Met on August 28
The Spirit of Community Commission did not meet on Aug. 6 due to the Primary Election. All agenda items have been moved to the Sept. 10 meeting.
The Parks and Recreation Commission discussed the Park Improvements Capital Plan The commission reviewed the available and projected parks fund and considered timelines for parks projects based on projected revenue. Two projects were identified as high priority: the development of a new bandstand or similar structure in Central Park and the site preparation of the New Community Park located on the southern end of the city.
City Council - Met on August 20 & 27
August 20, 2024 (Regular Meeting): The City Council approved a preliminary and final plat for Delano West Metro Business Park 3rd Addition. Once approved, the City Council approved applications from two businesses for Conditional Use Permits and Planned Unit Developments – Delano Self Storage LLC and Cemstone Product Co.
August 27, 2024 (Regular Workshop): The City Council met with Bill Nibbe, who is running for the Wright County Board District 5 seat. The City Council interviewed and appointed Delano resident Henry Scere to the Spirit of Community Commission. Staff then presented a draft budget and preliminary tax levy to the City Council. The City Council discussed options related to the regulation of cats and general animal control.

The candidates listed below have filed for the two City Council, 4-year term seats and will be on the Nov. 5 General Election ballot: Todd Belz, Jeff Demeules, Peter Froehle, Jeremiah Hawkins, & Marc Plese. Polls will be open at City Hall on Nov. 5 from 7 AM - 8 PM. Please note that Delano City Hall is the polling place for City of Delano residents only.
