As the sun-soaked days of summer arrive, it's crucial to remember that our furry friends need special attention to stay safe and comfortable in the heat The rising temperatures can pose significant risks to pets if proper care is not taken Our dedicated animal control team has some tips for keeping pets cool & happy this Summer

Hydration is Key: Consider placing multiple water bowls in different areas of your home, especially if you have a large or multi-level space

Provide Ample Shade and Ventilation: Create shady spots for your pets both indoors and outdoors

Schedule Outdoor Activities Wisely: To prevent your pet from overheating, plan outdoor activities during cooler parts of the day, such as early mornings or late evenings. Never Leave Pets in Parked Vehicles!!

Beware of Toxic Substances: Summer often means increased use of pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals in yards and gardens Keep your pet away from treated areas

Meet Derek White, IT Support Technician

As a Network and Information Technology Support Technician, my role serves a pivotal function in sustaining our city's operations There's an immense satisfaction I glean from resolving critical issues for personnel, their faces illuminating with relief and gratitude I take pride in being an integral cog that keeps the machinery of our city functioning smoothly and efficiently

When I step away from the whirlwind of work, my passions guide me towards diverse pursuits You might find me immersed in nature, indulging my love for fishing or taking on New Mexico's intriguing fishing challenges, which require the capture of all five species of trout and all four species of bass found in our state. Alternatively, you might find me under the hood of my car, exploring the intricacies of its mechanics, or diving deep into a web of research on a unique, random subject

Another part of my downtime is dedicated to managing my personal network and server infrastructure at home, a testament to my unwavering fascination with the IT universe

My career path was sculpted by my six-year tenure in the Air Force, which included three deployments I've braved combat deployments to Bagram AB, Afghanistan and Al Asad AB, Iraq, along with a deployment to Incirlik AB, Turkey. Moreover, my service took me to Al Udeid AB in Qatar, Ali Al Salem AB in Kuwait, Ramstein AB in Germany, as well as several smaller airports and bases in Germany and Ireland

One of the most remarkable experiences from my deployment years involved working under fire in Afghanistan I was attempting to fix network gear on one of our gunships when we took shelter in a bunker

A fellow maintainer cast his flashlight above my head, revealing a gargantuan camel spider, or Solifugid, lurking ominously above Faced with this formidable foe, I chose to brave the incoming indirect fire over sharing space with the spider!

Working for the city, I find echoes of my deployment days I'm again the multifaceted Swiss army knife, tackling a range of ITrelated challenges and interacting with a myriad of interesting individuals. Each day is unique, an essential aspect that lends fulfillment to my role

I hail from Bellingham, Washington, a town boasting a close-knit community, despite being twice as populous as Clovis. If you notice a northern accent slip out during our conversations, it's a nod to my roots This linguistic influence is compounded by my mother's Minnesota lineage and Canadian birth, resulting in my dual citizenship.

So if you hear a hint of the North in my speech, now you know the backstory!
