STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY CONNECTION
Share Your Thoughts
Our Ageing Well Team supports people aged 65 and over to build friendships and resilience through creating strong community connections.
Our social support programs have changed the lives of many people such as Terry, who regularly volunteers his time to visit Alan in a residential facility. Terry previously visited his Mum in another facility and became aware that many residents did not receive regular visits from family or friends, and decided to volunteer his time with Ageing Well. For Terry, “volunteering is rewarding to both you and the resident.”
Our social program allows Alan to stay connected to the wider community outside the residential facility through Terry’s visits. They enjoy sharing stories and experiences with each other and their similar sense of humour and common interests have allowed the two of them to build a meaningful connection.
Over the years we have connected the community through our social groups; Friendly Visiting Program, Men on the Move, Companion
Animal Project, Fish Feeders, Tai Chi, shopping assistance and buses, and respite services.
This year we want to support new ways of connecting older people together and help to create more meaningful friendships. Whether it’s a book club, a walking group, an art class, an intergenerational playgroup, or a virtual dinner club – we want to hear from you.
