CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

The Blue Springs Parks & Recreation Department strives to provide the highest quality recreational activities possible. It is the department’s desire that each customer be satisfied with the recreational activities in which they participate. If a customer is not satisfied, corrective efforts will be made. Each specific request or inquiry is reviewed by staff for its own individual circumstances.

If necessary, we can arrange for one of the following to occur (full or prorated): repeat the activity at no charge, receive credit that can be applied to any other activity at no charge or receive a refund. Requests for refunds and transfers for departmental programs may be subject to a $5 transfer and $7 refund administrative processing charge. Request for refunds must be made within two weeks following a particular program.

The Parks & Recreation Department must be notified by the end of the following business day in order to request a refund or transfer of ball field rentals that are rained out. If a program is canceled or session dates and/or times are altered by the Parks & Recreation Department, we will be happy to process a full refund. For ticket sales involving trips or theme park attractions, all sales are final.

COUNSELOR IN TRAINING PROGRAM

The Counselor in Training (CIT) program is designed for 13-15 year olds learning what it means to be a leader and great counselor.

Campers who have been in the summer day camp program and aged out will get an opportunity to come back as a CIT 1, CIT 2 or CIT 3. Once they have completed the program successfully, they will be offered a counselor position the following summer! All CIT registrants must go through an interview process.

Dodge it if you can! If you are a teenager, come sign up for Blue Springs Fieldhouse’s first-ever Co-Ed Teen Dodgeball Tournament. Teams of four males and four females will compete against others in their age division to become Dodgeball Champions.

Divisions will be broken out by ages - Red Division: Ages 13-15; Blue Division: Ages 16-18.

The focus of this program is to teach the fundamentals of athletic development.

Participants will learn the techniques of sprinting, deceleration, change of direction, and agility.

The goal of each session will be to equip the athletes with all the skills necessary to play any sport they choose with a reduced risk of injury, all in a positive and fun environment!

Develop strength and explosiveness to increase your vertical jump. The vertical jump is the best measurement of power and is important for every sport. Join Coach Jamal Mabry as he leads athletes in a twice per week, four-week program. The program includes pre- and post- vertical and broad jump measurements, as well as an at-home workout to be completed each week.

Blue Springs Parks & Recreation will be offering Little All-Stars flag football, cheerleading and soccer in the fall.

These five-week programs are designed to introduce the fundamentals of sports in an inclusive environment for children ages three and four years old. Participants will be assigned to a team of no more than ten players and led by volunteer parent coaches.

The program consists of three weeks of learning skills and rotating through drill stations that teach the very basics of the sport. The remaining two weeks will consist of game play. This program is designed to prepare kids for future league play.

Children enjoy snacks at the end of each night and receive a medal at the completion of the program!

YOUTH SOCCER

Blue Springs Parks & Recreation’s Youth Soccer program is an eight-game season for ages U6-U13. All divisions are co-ed, and the age cutoff is determined by their birth year. Our goal is for all youth sports participants, both parents and children, to have an enjoyable sporting experience. Skill development is the main component of our youth sports programs.

Each participant and coach receive a shirt and a trophy. The registration deadline is July 17, and practices begin July 29. Games begin August 19.

YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL

Are you ready for some football? Then join Blue Springs Parks & Recreation’s Youth Flag Football League for ages Kindergarten-6th Grade! The league features an eight-game season. Kids will learn the skills of the game while building character, friendships and memories.

The registration deadline is August 7, practices begin August 19, and games begin September 9. Each team is replicated from one of the 32 current NFL teams!

This is a six-week program where the girls meet twice per week, Thursday evenings, and then again Saturday mornings for one-and-a-half hours at a time through June 17. The age groups are split 10-11 and 12-13 years. This program is designed for those players with prior experience. Each player will be provided a program shirt.

The focus of this program is to teach the fundamentals of power hitting. Participants will learn the techniques of spiking, attacking and hitting. The goal of each session is to provide instruction to improve the players power hitting ability as well as injury prevention.

This is a five-week volleyball program designed for third and fourth graders where the girls meet each Monday through June 5. Basic drills are taught using stations the first three weeks. This program is an open gym held by Legends Volleyball staff. The focus of open play is to allow players before or after their school season to retain their volleyball skills. The goal of the program is to improve the player’s individual skills, provide the opportunity to practice passing, setting, hitting, and serving drills. Players will be divided into groups based on their skills and age.

The Summer Solstice marks the first day of summer and the longest day of the year.

Trainer Jamie Mason will lead this time to channel the transformative qualities of the summer solstice with practices to stoke up your inner fire and celebrate the sun.

Take part in mindful movement (energizing Pilates and Yoga, balanced with calming deep stretch sequence) along with guided meditation and reflection through journaling on the year so far. The retreat will end with a deeply relaxing yoga nidra practice.

Vesper Hall is a nationally accredited Community Center that offers a variety of activities for individuals ages 50 and older who like to stay social, healthy and active.

WEEKLY NUTRITIONAL LUNCH

Served Monday-Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A $3.50 donation is suggested for ages 60 and older and for those who are disabled. A fee of $5.75 is required for age 59 and younger.

Reservations must be made at least one day prior to guarantee a meal. Cancellations must be made prior to day of reservation.

TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

HOME-DELIVERED MEALS

Available for homebound individuals in Blue Springs and Lake Tapawingo who are 60 years and older or disabled persons age 18-59. Meals are delivered Monday-Friday, and a $3.50 donation is suggested. Contact Vesper Hall to receive more information.

Meal programs are co-sponsored by Mid-America Regional Council. Federal funds assist in the cost of meal planning, preparation and delivery.

The City of Blue Springs offers transportation services for residents 60 years of age and older and adults with disabilities ages 18-59. The City contracts with OATS Transportation Services for medical and/or shopping trips within Blue Springs.

Door-to-door pick up to grocery stores, shops and appointments within Blue Springs city limits: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday - $3 - one-way trips, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Call 816-380-7433 to schedule.
