Blaine CityConnect

Ramping Up to Begin Service January 2016 What can residents of Blaine expect from Walters Recycling and Refuse as the January 1st launch for garbage and recycling service approaches?

Residential RECYCLING carts will be swapped out City-wide in early December. All single-family homes can expect a new 95 gallon recycling cart while all townhomes will receive a new 65 gallon recycling cart.

A larger recycling cart promotes recycling awareness! With the continuing cost increases at waste disposal facilities we want our residents to be better recyclers! By doing so you minimize what you throw away which helps reduce your garbage costs.

All residents can keep their existing garbage and yard waste carts. Walters will stop by in early spring with their cart washing Can-Be-Clean truck to wash and sanitize your carts. They will also label existing carts with their brand in the spring.

More information regarding this schedule will be outlined soon in a City-wide mailer and at WWW.WALT ERSREC Y C L I NG . C OM and at WWW.CI.BLAINE.MN.US/GO/GARBAGE .

Changing recycling, garbage, and yard waste haulers in a City the size of Blaine is a big undertaking and we thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Have you been in Blaine for more than 25 years? We want to hear your stories and celebrate you at the finale of our 50th Anniversary year. Visit BlaineEvents.com/50 to complete a quick registration or stop by Blaine City Hall no later than November 10, 2015. The Blaine Community Center Task Force has been meeting now for almost 18 months. They have toured neighboring communities, discussed needed facilities, and surveyed the city. After receiving encouraging and supportive survey results they asked the city to hire a consultant to further investigate sites, needs, and potential amenities. The consultant is in place and outreach with stakeholders from across the community took place at the end of October to further evaluate the needs of various groups. Over the next year, the Task Force and consultant will use outreach, survey results, and conversations with community members to develop a Community Center proposal that will be refined with input from community members. A proposal to the community will be on the 2016 ballot in the form of a referendum question. The Task Force will continue to add shape to the proposal over the coming weeks and looks forward to engaging the community in discussions on the project.
