RECREATION FOR ALL Johns Creek Recreation and Parks enriches the quality of life for the Johns Creek community by providing recreational, educational and wellness programs within facilities, parks, and natural open spaces.

Johns Creek is committed to enhancing the well being of its residents and visitors through comprehensive recreation and park programs, facilities, and services.

The Recreation & Parks Division maintains over 400 acres of parkland and nature preserves.

In addition to the city’s four main parks, the city now has two new pocket parks, one new neighborhood park, and two new large parks. Programming within the parks includes activities and sports for youth and people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

We encourage you to take a stroll, join a class, catch an outdoor concert, learn a little more about the history of our area, and just take some time to enjoy one of our most important assets, our parks.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

POLICIES

REGISTRATION: REC1 ONLINE

Residents and non-residents are able to register for programs, rent park facilities, and take virtual tours of the parks by visiting www.JohnsCreekGA.gov.

NON-RESIDENT FEE POLICY Non-residents will pay an increased fee of 50% for most City of Johns Creek programs and facility rentals. Non-resident fees are collected from participants that participate in Johns Creek programs that do not live within the City limits. The City’s “Parks without Borders” partnership with the City of Alpharetta waives non-resident fees in youth softball, youth baseball, and youth lacrosse.

REGISTRATION - REFUND POLICY • • • • • • •

Registration can be completed online (for most programs) or in-person at Park Place (senior center) located inside Newtown Park.

Return checks are subject to a $35 fee.

Refund requests must be in writing and are subject to approval by Recreation & Parks staff.

A $20 processing fee will apply to most refunds.

When applicable, no refunds for programs will be issued after the first class.

Refunds are issued either by check or by reversing credit card charges (but may take up to 30 days for processing).

There are no cash refunds.

FACILITY RENTALS Interested in renting a park facility? The City offers pavilions, tennis courts, amphitheater, and the Newtown Park Community Clubhouse for rental use. For more info, visit the Rec1 page on the City website, www.johnscreekga.gov

COMMERCIAL USE POLICY Johns Creek City Code does not allow solicitation or commercial activity in our City park facilities without a permit. Coaching, teaching, working with individuals (children, teens, adults) for pay is considered commercial activity.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO POLICY Johns Creek Recreation & Parks Division may photograph or videotape registrants, participants, and spectators in our programs, special events, or facilities. Such photographs are for City use only and may be used in publications, brochures, pamphlets, flyers, websites, or video productions.

SPECIAL EVENT CANCELLATION

CANCELLATION POLICY • • •

Any classes/programs not meeting minimum enrollment requirements may be postponed or cancelled.

If your class/program is cancelled, you will be notified.

Classes also may be cancelled due to inclement weather or instructor scheduling conflicts.

A full refund will be given for cancelled classes/programs.

Special Event cancellations caused by inclement weather, etc. will be posted on the City website at www.JohnsCreekGA. gov and on social media (Facebook and Twitter).

LEGO SPRING BREAK CAMP Explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building systems with guidance from Play-Well Teknologies. This is an ideal way to prepare young builders for the challenge of engineering ‘FUN’damentals. Camps are open to children ages 5-12.

EASTER EGG DASH Spring is in the air and the City of Johns Creek is eggcited to host the Easter Egg Dash for children ages 10 and younger. Enjoy games, activities, and photos with the Easter Bunny. Please bring a basket to collect eggs and a camera for photos.

MOVIES AT NEWTOWN PARK Join friends and family at Newtown Park over the summer season for some outdoor family fun. Gather ‘round a huge outdoor movie screen for a drive-in style movie experience. All movies are rated G to PG. Food is available for purchase through food trucks. The Movies at Newtown series is sponsored by Northside Hospital.

Titles are announced one week prior to event.

Celebrate our country’s independence at Newtown Park with live music by Crystal Clear Band (Dance Party Band), activities, food, and an exceptional fireworks display! Be sure to show your patriotism by wearing red, white, and blue.

YEAR ROUND PROGRAMS CLUBHOUSE FITNESS The Johns Creek Recreation & Parks Division offers adult fitness classes to help you get in shape, stay energized, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

All classes are held at the Newtown Community Clubhouse located at Newtown Park and are taught by certified instructors. All fitness levels are welcome. Space is limited; please register early.

(Must be age 16 or older at the time of the class).

PICKLEBALL Come check out one of the fastest growing sports in the nation‌.Pickleball! Pickleball is played on a small court and a is a combination of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. New Pickleball Courts coming to Newtown Tennis Center #4.

Temporary Pickleball nets, paddles and balls are set up under the Mark Burkhalter Amphitheater for open play on a first come-first served basis.

WALK WITH A DOC Walk with a Doc (WWAD), a health program that brings doctors and patients together.

The walk begins at 10 a.m. at Newtown Park, at the Veterans Memorial Walk. The walks take place on the second Saturday of each month, weather permitting.

Park Place at Newtown School offers a variety of fun, interesting, and educational activities for Johns Creek residents, ages 62+.

Free/low cost activities such as bocce, movie matinĂŠes, book club, bridge, and canasta, as well as social clubs, day trips, lunch & learns, and more are offered at the center.

Programming also includes exercise classes like yoga, Zumba, and Silver Sneakers / FLEX program, which is funded by insurance companies and works with adult activity centers like Park Place to provide certified instructors who offer free or reduced cost fitness classes and programs.

Autrey Mill Nature Preserve 9770 Autrey Mill Road Forty-six forested acres, with over 2 miles of walking trails winding past a scenic creek. Facilities include several historical buildings, replica Native American dwellings, and live animal displays. It’s a popular location for scouting activities.

Newtown Park 3150 Old Alabama Road Fifty-two acre park with 3 softball / baseball fields, 3 multi-purpose athletic fields, 6 tennis courts, 2 outdoor basketball courts, a 2-mile multi-use path, 13 picnic pavilions, Dream Dog Park, Newtown Park Amphitheater, Veterans Memorial Walk, community garden, 2 playgrounds and a small lake. Park Place at Newtown School and the Newtown Community Clubhouse are located in the park.

MARK BURKHALTER AMPHITHEATER The Mark Burkhaltter Amphitheater provides a delightful venue for special events and summer concerts. The 10,600 square-foot open-air amphitheater offers up to 400 seats under cover, and another 1,000 seats on its terraced grass surroundings.

NEWTOWN PARK COMMUNITY CLUBHOUSE The Newtown Park Community Clubhouse can be rented to host meetings and small social gatherings. It’s equipped with one ADA restroom, a small kitchen, a meeting room that is approximately 28ftX28ft, and five 6-foot tables and fifty chairs. Max occupancy is 75. A minimum of two hours is required for event rental.

JOHNS CREEK VETERANS MEMORIAL WALK The Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk, inside Newtown Park, serves as a place for visitors to reflect on the sacrifice of those who served in the military and as a location for patriotic events in Johns Creek.

NEWTOWN DREAM DOG PARK The Newtown Dream Dog Park has 2-acres of artificial turf, sprinklers for dogs to play in, obstacles to play on, plus water fountains for pets. It’s a popular destination for dog lovers across Metro Atlanta and was ranked one of the best in the country by USA Today.

NEWTOWN COMMUNITY GARDEN The 41-plot Community Garden is located inside Newtown Park and contains 35, 4’x8’ raised beds, 4 tall planting tables and 2 beds that are handicap accessible. The garden is managed by the Johns Creek Garden Association.
