Concerning senior citizens, Santana de Parnaíba developed programs and actions to protect this population as much as possible, which is a risk group of COVID-19. Santana de Parnaíba has made great advances in the health area. One of the factors that contribute to positive results are the various investments made, with 14 health units delivered to the population in the last 7 years, in addition to the Children’s Emergency Room, the new AME and the Santa Ana maternity hospital, which has performed more than 1000 births since opening in August 2019.
Another 9 important works in the sector are also in the final stages of construction, such as the 5,000 m² Health Complex, which will house the Health Department, UBS Álvaro Ribeiro, the Santana de Parnaíba Women’s Health Centers, Dentistry, Physiotherapy and the Pharmacy Every Day program.
In August 2020, Santana de Parnaíba delivered the first UBS Animal in the city. In addition to serving the pets of the Santana de Parnaíba residents, the equipment will serve as a shelter for rescued animals until they are adopted.

The health unit has 360 square meters of built area, with spaces for adoption and events, offices, medication and emergency rooms, open and covered environments for animals and a place for bathing and grooming. Animals that are rescued on city streets will receive care and stay at the UBS until they are adopted and sent to a new home. During the treatment, they will receive a collar that will contain all their information, which can be viewed through the QR Code.
All animals that pass through the UBS will be microchipped, in order to facilitate the identification of dogs and cats, in addition to reducing the number of abandoned animals.
Another space was the Field Hospital, implanted in the Convention Center even before its official inauguration, whose structure comprised 100 beds, aimed at low complexity care, cases of less seriousness. In the new CAPs Vila Esperança, infirmary beds were also made available, also aimed at less severe cases, but with the capacity to receive respirators in case of need.
In all, 260 professionals including doctors, nurses and nursing technicians work in these units, receiving patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who are referred by health units. In addition, more than 270 of the most modern equipment was purchased to assist the medical treatment team, including cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, oximeters and electric beds.
