40 years of the Natural Heritage Listing of Serra
do Japi
Serra do Japi and Guaxinduva was listed by the Council for the Defense of Historical, Archaeological, Artistic and Tourist Heritage of the State of São PauloCONDEPHAAT, through Resolution No. 11, of March 8, 1983.

After the listing, on May 20, 1984, the Environmental Protection Area - APA Cabreúva was created, through State Law 4023/1984, to protect water resources, flora and fauna and on July 3, 1998 it was regulated by State Decree 43.284/1998.
Covering an area of 354 square kilometers, whose highest point reaches an altitude of 1250 meters, its biological value for the region is immeasurable because, in addition to being a factor of ecological and climatic balance, it preserves a great biodiversity of flora and fauna.
The only tropical forest in the world on a quartzite soil, Serra do Japi is located between the municipalities of Jundiaí, Cabreúva, Pirapora and Cajamar.
Serra do Japi is an Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve and is part of the green belt of the State of São Paulo. It represents one of the last large areas of continuous forest in the state and bears witness to the rich and exuberant flora and fauna that existed in much of the southeastern region of Brazil before European colonization.
Cabreúva City Hall, through the Environment Sector, develops environmental education projects, with the participation of students, teachers and other interested parties, aimed at protecting biodiversity and water resources, including “Walking in the Serra do Japi”, being a monitored visit in Serra do Japi and “Roteiro das Águas”, which shows from water sources to the treatment process that is carried out.

O COMDEMA é um órgão de natureza consultiva, deliberativa e normativa integrante da estrutura da Administração Municipal, vinculada à Secretaria de Meio Ambiente, Obras e Serviços Urbanos, de assessoramento da Prefeitura de Cabreúva, âmbito de sua competência, sobre as questões ambientais propostas nas leis do Município.
O COMDEMA é paritário, composto por representantes do Poder Público e da Sociedade Civil.
A função de Conselheiro é considerada de interesse público relevante e seu exercício não é remunerado.
