CITY VOLUNTEERS Volunteers are the lifeblood of our City, and the dedication of the South Beach (SB) Beach & Parks Volunteers is truly commendable. In 2023, they collectively worked an impressive 2,302.5 hours, marking the second-highest number of hours since records began being kept in 2015 after 16

FEBRUARY 2024

the group had already worked for six years prior. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, they persevered, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining the beauty of the nine parks/beach accesses and over four miles of beaches in South Beach from the bridge to the south city limits.

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

Since the group’s inception, the City of Fort Pierce has been a steadfast source of support and appreciation, with the Public Works Department now notably providing consistent assistance. The City of Fort Pierce extends our sincerest gratitude to all volunteers, including those from SB Beach & Parks Volunteers, for their selfless contributions. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and Fort Pierce is brighter because of you. For information on how to get involved or to organize a volunteer group, please call or text the SB Beach & Parks Volunteers coordinator, Charlene Adair, at 772285-3757 or visit the city’s website at www.cityoffortpierce.com. There are opportunities throughout the City.

SUNRISE THEATRE The Sunrise Theatre Foundation is a lifeline to our historic Theatre, providing fundraising and bringing awareness to the youth of our community about the performing arts. The Foundation and the staff at the Sunrise have been working closely together for the past few years and the relationship continues to grow. Both groups have one main goal in mind, the success of the historic Sunrise Theatre. One event recently hosted together was the previously reported Speakeasy that many are still talking about. Working together, substantial funds were raised for the Theatre and over 500 guests enjoyed a stunning evening at the Sunrise. That success paved the way for more shows for our youth and funded much needed items for the Theatre. Operating and maintaining our 100-year-old building 20

FEBRUARY 2024

is a daunting task, but with the extra hands and hearts of the Foundation, a new projector was acquired! This improvement will entice greater acts, and avoids potential rental costs, which helps reduce operating expenses. This is just one of many improvements and acquisitions the Theatre looks forward to in efforts to enhance the experience for its patrons and guests. The Sunrise Theatre Foundation continues to work towards expanding the children’s programs, enhancing the Theatre’s experiences, and hosting another main event for 2024! If you were amazed by the Speakeasy event, the Sunrise Theatre and the Sunrise Theatre Foundation will be hosting another amazing event this summer you should look forward to for 2024 – Studio 117 ~ Stay tuned!!!

Indian Hills Golf Course Mother Nature has been extremely cooperative with us this Fall!! With all of the rain in the area over the past few months in conjunction with all of the Organic Fertilizers we have been applying, we have continued to remain nice and green and healthy in spite of the cooler, overcast days. We have been applying a new chemical to combat the goose grass that has plagued the course for years. The benefit of this product is that we are seeing results in just ONE APPLICATION, saving us both time and money.

Monthly Sales Repor t

We have had an excellent start to our Fiscal Year with Revenue in excess of $125,000 above last year through Mid-January. In addition to being extremely busy, we have strived to achieve a fantastic pace of play where you can be finished with 18 holes in under 4 hours even on our busiest days. We

have been fortunate to have added several groups that had previously been playing regularly at other golf courses in the area. Our Indian Hills Savings Card can be purchased by Fort Pierce residents for the low fee of $50. With the Savings Card, a player will save 20% off EVERY ROUND for an entire year from the date of purchase. Word of mouth is our greatest form of advertising, so we ask if you’ve played here and enjoyed the changes we’re making, please tell a friend….or two! If there’s something we can improve upon…tell US so we can keep getting better! We thank all of our members and guests for their support, and we ask that you please “Like” and “Follow Us” on Facebook or Instagram to see almost daily updates on the golf course and our ongoing maintenance projects.

On January 24, 2024, the Fort Pierce Police Department was honored to join with the staff at Coggin BMW Treasure Coast, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office and Hunger Fight to package thousands of meals for Title 1 elementary schools in Fort Pierce. Everyone worked together to create cheesy rice meal packets, with some friendly competitions going on between tables to see who could create the most. Volunteers rang bells and cheered whenever a box was filled with packets – a sight that thrilled Hunger Fight’s Suzanne Lamoutte. She said every 100 boxes of pouches provides 17,000 meals – a feat that couldn’t be accomplished without community support.
