How are the tests organised?

CIS Secondary is an academically selective school and as such our assessments are rigorous but organised in such a way as to allow every child to perform to their very best.

The three tests are:

• An online cognitive ability test provided by GL assessment www.gl-assessment.co.uk which comprises of four 30 minutes test.

• Separate paper-based assessments for English and Mathematics which are one hour each.

There are regular breaks during the day to allow students to relax, enjoy snacks, and eat lunch as well as to tour the school in the company of our prefects.

When will the outcome of the assessments be shared with Parents?

We will write to the families of all the children who have taken the examinations as follows:

Date of assessment

Letter by 4th November

Wednesday 8th November 18th November

Wednesday 22nd November

The letter will indicate one or two outcomes:

• The assessments have gone well, and your child will progress to the interview stage.

• Having carefully considered all assessment marks, we may judge that the applicant has not met our minimum requirements. However, we understand that a variety of factors may lead to a result which is not truly reflective of the child’s ability. We can all have a bad day! Therefore, no child will have a place declined at this stage. Rather they will be invited for a retake of the examinations. Resists are scheduled for November 18th and November 25th .

CIS is academically selective and, to ensure that our classes remain small, numbers are limited in Year 7. This does mean that the application process is highly competitive and regretfully we are unable to offer places to all applicants. Letters confirming the outcome of the admissions process will be available for collection from 12 noon on Thursday 7th December 2023.

Accepting an Offer

We will make an offer in writing. A place at our school is only guaranteed once the acceptance forms are completed and the deposit has been paid.

TThe offer of a place is guaranteed for a period of 10 working days after which time the offer will not be withdrawn but the place may be offered to another applicant.
