How are the tests organised?
CIS Secondary is an academically selective school and as such our assessments are rigorous but organised in such a way as to allow every child to perform to their very best.
The three tests are:
• An online cognitive ability test provided by GL assessment www.gl-assessment.co.uk which comprises of four 30 minutes test.
• Separate paper-based assessments for English and Mathematics which are one hour each.
There are regular breaks during the day to allow students to relax, enjoy snacks, and eat lunch as well as to tour the school in the company of our prefects.
Sample question are here:
guide to tests and sample verbal and Non verbal questions
When will the outcome of the assessments be shared with Parents?
We will write to the families of all the children who have taken the examinations as follows:
Date of assessment
2nd November
Letter by
Tuesday 5th November 16th November
Tuesday 19th November
The letter will indicate one or two outcomes:
• The assessments have gone well, and your child will progress to the interview stage.
OR
• Having carefully considered all assessment marks, we may judge that the applicant has not met our minimum requirements. However, we understand that a variety of factors may lead to a result which is not truly reflective of the child’s ability. We can all have a bad day! Therefore, no child will have a place declined at this stage. Rather they will be invited for a retake of the examinations. Resists are scheduled for November 16th and November 20th .
The Interview
• Each applicant who has passed our academic assessments will be invited to an interview accompanied by their parents. These will be approximately 20 minutes in length and take place as follows:
Date of entrance test
Interviews in week beginning
2nd November Monday 11th November
16th November Monday 25th November
• During the interview each candidate will be invited to make a short presentation. The topic of this presentation will be shared within the invite letter.
The offer
CIS is academically selective and, to ensure that our classes remain small, numbers are limited in Year 7. This does mean that the application process is highly competitive and regretfully we are unable to offer places to all applicants. Letters confirming the outcome of the admissions process will be sent through email from 12 noon Monday 2nd
December.
If you would prefer a hard copy of the letter this can be collected on Wednesday 4th December. Please contact our admission team in advance to make this arrangement.
Accepting an Offer
We will make an offer in writing. A place at our school is only guaranteed once the acceptance forms are completed and the deposit has been paid.
The offer of a place is guaranteed for a period of 10 working days after which time the offer will not be withdrawn but the place may be offered to another applicant.
Welcome to CIS
Students who are settled in their decision and feel part of the school before they arrive will more quickly adapt both academically and socially to their new school.
Students who are accepted for September 2025 entry become members of our community as soon as the joining forms are received.
