“Growing up in a household of craftspeople, with my father working at home on a variety of design projects, mostly in low relief, involving the use of many different materials, I mixed my first bowl of Plaster of Paris at the age of six. The die was cast, although of course, I did not know it at the time. But, as time has passed, I have been increasingly fascinated by the way in which different materials have given my sculptures their distinct being.

After concept, for me, material is the beginning of the process of making. My concerns as a sculptor have always been working on the relationships that come to exist between the forms that I create and the spaces revealed by their structures.

For years, my works were fully three-dimensional and related to architecture and landscape as subject matter, but gradually I have become less and less interested in subject and I have tried to rid my works of any direct allusion to my environment, except in an abstract or concrete way. I have chosen to use the geometry that underpins the structure of the world as a central theme, in addition to this removal of everyday imagery. However, I must confess that I have been influenced by an architectural phenomenon, the squint, which occurs as a sloping-sided hole between a side chapel and the chancel in medieval churches; its purpose is to allow viewing from one to the other. As the rectilinear opening is larger at one end than the other, it causes some unusual optical effects, similar to, as a child, one looked down a cardboard tube and the world appearing somehow brighter and sharper. This is territory I continue to explore.

Also, in more recent years, I have become increasingly interested in the space that exists between ourselves and the walls that surround us as we live our lives. Consequently, relief objects are presently my main concern hung directly onto walls of all kinds.

Throughout these differing journeys, colour has been important as a means of changing the dynamics and emotional impact of these reliefs, and coupled with reflective surfaces like silver leaf and mirror, has caused the viewer to become visually disorientated and not sure what he/she is seeing.”

“Seascapes, landscapes, and the world around me are the studio I use for my photographic work. I find freedom and inspiration to create my interpretations of the natural elements and scenic vistas at these locations.

The Landscape is an exciting and challenging environment to work in, for it is constantly changing with the light of the day and the changing seasons. On many occasions, I have revisited my favorite locations repeatedly throughout the year and found them to be completely different in their appearance, from the sand on the beach, the depth of water in the streams, or the light striking the rocks. This environment and the many faces it reveals bring me endless excitement for creating my art.

I work exclusively in black and white. This medium best relates the Landscape’s shapes, lines, and tones and more fully captures what I am viewing when I look at a scene. I find the creation of photographic art today to offer endless possibilities for creativity and the making and sharing of visual art.

As an artist, I have tried not only to pay respect to the natural order and beauty of the earth but also to show my vision of land, sea, and light.”

“I strive for my art to uplift the spirit and inspire appreciation for the beauty of life. My aesthetic sense springs from a wonder at the variety and mystery of the body’s physical reality as well as its ability to be transformed into abstractions. I have worked in a variety of media and focused on a number of subjects, all with the purpose of creating something beautiful. Ultimately, that journey led me to focus on the beauty of the female form as viewed through black and white photography.”

“My elaborate acrylic and watercolor drawings take shape instinctively. I use bright acrylics and watercolors to create compelling patterns to stimulate the viewer’s spontaneous reaction to each piece. My pieces include three recurring symbols: vines, Venn diagrams, and jigsaw puzzle-like designs. To me, these symbols represent friendship, connection, common ground, and fragments of life coming together to create a beautiful tapestry.”

“In 2011, digital media opened for me the way to create. Since 2019, my abstract works are part of a long-term project entitled ‘The Colours of the World.’ Coral reefs, salt marshes, landscapes allow me to explore the infinite variety of colours of our universe; so beautiful, but so fragile. My ambition is to open the doors to the imaginary and emotions. For me, guiding anyone by giving titles or by writing an accompanying text is excluded.”

“Art, for me, is a voice to show the world how I live a life of colored symphony. I am passionate about using rich colors, a variety of media and unexpected found objects to create more waves of sensational art forms, seen, touched and heard by the viewer. As I explore the use of light and shade through color and movement, I recognize that the control we all want to exert in our lives is often paired with uncontrollable growth and change. David Burch now lives in Edmonton, Alberta, but travels frequently back to NYC and concurrently still paints at the Art Students League with Ronnie Landfield. His early work placed a heavy emphasis on idealized abstract landscapes but recently has dramatically changed with a re-evaluation of brushwork and how it accentuates color and design to create visually appealing forms. The evocative titles of each of his paintings urge viewers to see and experience the world around them in different ways.

“My abstract art is a visual representation of my unconscious mind, creativity, and personal association with colors. When I paint, I feel that the invisible becomes visible through the use of vibrant colors and different shapes, with no limit to what the final piece may express or evoke over time. Sometimes the painting process originates from a place of inner peace; other times, from the urge to express a more unsettled inner world. Either way, the painting process is cathartic and freeing.”

“Drawing the invisible allows me to fully concentrate on what I sense. The action itself is merely flowing through my fingers. Sometimes it becomes a dance with moving lines or a story while drawing. Eventually, it is a blueprint of the objective and anything connected to it. My motor to create is curiosity. I follow my instincts and my impulses. As there are no limits to the universal possibilities, I never run out of themes or ideas. It is mainly a question of what comes next.”

Art is a movement of self-expression that changes as you grow and learn, on your terms. Art is forever! A piece of art is a forever statement your soul makes that desires to share with the rest of the world. That’s why I choose to do art. Because it isn’t just a ‘trend.’ Your art is who you are, feel and how you see the world. My work aims to open your mind and make you feel the world differently. For me, art is about the search of expression, feelings, sexuality and abstraction.”

“My work is an investigation of my observation of reality and the distorted perception I have of that reality. The world as seen and known begins to dematerialize and the underlying spatial relationships disappear. I suggest that reality and perception are two sides of the same coin in the way they interweave and coexist; as perception arises uniquely for each individual who is observing part of reality. As a choreographer, I organize color’s movement within space.”

“Dream with me the dream of a colourful and peaceful future. I prefer to suggest rather than describe, leaving it up to the viewer to complete my artwork with their imagination. My colorful, energetic art raises awareness of beauty and, at the same time, the fragility of our world in the sense of the environment, society and the coexistence of cultures. It inspires discovery, urges viewers to remain open to new things, become aware of their own abilities, staying optimistic about a good future.”

I use wood, steel, and objects to create metaphorical vistas that contain messages within them that are relevant to my beliefs and viewpoints. Topics include societal fear and anger, climate change, human rights, assaults against diversity, truth versus “alternative facts,” degradation of kindness and compassion, and attacks against democracy.

This desire arises from a somatic reverence for the interconnectedness of all life, and a love for the beautiful aliveness which happens when the earthly organic and the transcendent become one. Dada was created in reaction to an era of global pandemic, crushing autocracy, concentration of wealth, and a world on the brink of destruction. Michela Valenti was born in Switzerland in 1968 and graduated with a diploma in Technical and Industrial Drawing (STA Lugano, 1992). At the age of 33, after a cerebral accident, she remained for several months with the loss of her sight. During the time that she spent in the darkness, Valenti was able to shed light in an insightful way on her beliefs, and found herself. This is how her artistic pathway started in 2005. She has participated in many national and international exhibitions and her work can be found in public and private collections, published in catalogs and art magazines. Many important critics have shown interest in her work. Her artistic language is expressed through elegant chromatic combinations. The artist is able to capture the basic nature of objects, through which she senses the deepest vibration and creates an introspective communication.
