“My paintings are reflective, emotional, intimate. I like to visually communicate what I feel: my perception of reality in a subtle way—not to reveal everything to the audience at once but to leave some space for interpretation. I find it quite magic how the same image can create different reactions, each like a new story for my enjoyment!

My subjects are mostly figurative, with a focus on portraiture. I find it intriguing what a face or an expression can tell, how it hides or reveals emotions. It’s never only a matter of representing what I see but also adding my perspective, my point of view, my feelings. This reflects in the way I represent my work.”

Tom Jean Webb has been depicting a land found in dreams and imagined romantic adventures since childhood. Using that art to take himself to the American Southwest to discover, explore and connect to his new reality. Born in London in 1982, growing up drawing was a transformative experience that would become his passion and career. Webb studied at Kingston University (2004-07), earning a first degree. Since graduating, he has exhibited in many spots in Europe, such as London, Paris, and Berlin as well as Hong Kong and multiple cities in the USA.

Tom is now represented by galleries in Texas, Germany and France and is currently continuing his art practice by creating paintings and sculptures using found natural and manufactured objects. Telling stories of his adventure and relationship with the new spaces and objects that fill his journey.

“My work started off as a means of transportation; to depict a place created and imagined with a sense of romance and nostalgia. I became interested in the idea of starting a dialogue between the imagined and real, to see what this new reality and I could create. To do so, I started to take trips to the lands of my work, specifically the American Southwest. It has created an interesting dynamic between the leading and learning forces of being, art leading life or life leading art.”

Alex Carrillo (b. 1988) is a Mexican artist whose work is a peculiar interpretation of everyday life and the different scenarios of the world through theatrical and extravagant images that explore glamour, androgyny, eroticism, queer culture, autobiographical themes and conclusions about life. Most of the characters portrayed in his works (some real and others invented) are alter egos or little fragments and they usually go from androgynous and flamboyant characters to ultra femme fatale heroines.

I waded through creeks looking for these mysterious and “evil” snakes that handed out fruit and ruined everything. I picked clover and stood perfectly still until the cow ate it from my hand. Jean Cherouny creates dynamically colored abstract paintings by repeatedly skating across the canvas. She is inspired by 20th-century painters Jackson Pollock, Rebecca Purdum and Mark Rothko. Knowing how Pollock energetically threw and dripped the paint and Purdum used hands and figures to apply the paint, Cherouny brings action and gestural painting to the 21st century.

The second is from Georgia O’Keeffe, who said what appeals to us about mountains and rocks and trees is not that they’re mountains and rocks and trees, but rather the lines, planes and textures they present to us. The third is from Joseph Campbell, who said it’s the task of the artist to convey the radiance behind the physical reality.”

I curate for an emotional, empathic response, distilling emotional layers and textures into a succinct experience that forces engagement with the image on a deeper level. My art works to make visible, the “emotional information” of the image and create a call to action. Through composition and post-production, I craft otherworldly images for what has been forgotten.”

“I work the image in an abstract way, thus composing with matter and veil the union and contrast between the ethereal and the raw. I am interested in the human body in connection to structure and decomposition. Memory retention and its passage through time leave footprints that appear as images that capture essence and nature. The organic environment is broken down and altered by originating symbols that incorporate its color and shape.”

“This portrait was inspired by Ed Sheeran’s lyrics “The A Team: White lips, pale face. Breathing in the snowflakes. Burnt lungs, sour taste. Light’s gone, days end. It’s too cold outside for angels to fly.” I like to paint portraits of people I love or have a mysterious glamour, famous and especially not famous. The ‘Impasto’ or “alla prima” technique, which I used gave texture to the painting bringing it to a three-dimensional sculptural image, making it both real and unreal at the same time.“

The ideas I am exploring through my art always concern my “three Ps”: psychologically – the inner self, philosophically – values, politically – interaction with others, and nature. Siegbert Hahn (b. 1937) is an experienced German artist whose works have been featured in exhibitions, and public and private collections worldwide. With nature in all its utterances as his central theme, he paints representational, fantastical figures in oil on wood or canvas. “The images in this series of fine art prints, titled ‘Compassionate Dialogue,’ use overlaying layers of color to create optical illusion of depth, texture, and a visual sense of compatible intersection. This work attempts to reflect the need for compromise in all facets of life, including business and family relationships, and often necessary in delicate governmental negotiations to reach success. Compromise was not always possible in the USA during the time of this work.”

“Through instant photography and the endless possibilities of emulsion lifting, my work explores the ephemeral and the instantaneous: the immediate magic of now that disappears just as quickly as it arrives. None of these moments will ever return. I use my work to embrace the uncertainty of this moment just before it changes into something else. Like waves or clouds, there’s a liquidity to living, an ongoing process of connection and change that I try to capture in its many different shapes and forms.”

“I often use small photographic images to transform a split second in time into a painting, initially transforming them into freestyle drawings in pencil on wood panel, canvas, or paper, then applying layers of color, which remain the building blocks of my paintings to this day. The result is a composition where everyday objects emerge, illustrating my own circumstances within their context. This process remains an organic one— with the final vision remaining a mystery until its completion.

Eric’s openness to the figurative, the object and language, but also to higher beings and mysticism, have created a style that has not been witnessed before and gives room for further exploration. The artist intends to open the door to art as a narrative medium to show a more critical view of society and the role of the individual within its structures. It should lead to a more liberal and tolerant state of being, without judgment.

I search for suitable forms, structures, colours, hues/shades, and sensitive surfaces. Much gets rejected, altered. Letting go of cherished aspects in a picture plays a major role. The design process of the plates required an ingenious and innovative technique through which I took the rigidity and straightness of Kufi and reproduced it in a perfectly proportionate rounded look to fit on the circular shape of the plates. “Alerting the senses through creating is an opportunity to ground in the present moment. Observing with the senses provides a place to simply be, to breathe, to feel, to find rest in the now. It is a means to communicate with the is-ness of being, with being in presence. The art process and the artwork are a vehicle to harness instinct, stimulate creativity and gather awareness, information and insights, emanating through heightened sense perception, in the communion with art and nature.”

“I call my paintings ‘Enigma Abstracts.’ Through various color combinations and graphic forms, I transfer the play of emotions and feelings in their visual embodiment. The art objects in the paintings are intertwined with the background. They do not appear immediately but emerge as if from the depths. Their presence on the canvas is first felt and only after this feeling, can they be seen.”

“My paintings do not depict things which I actually observe but rather what I recall from the past, and more accurately, what I wish to see. I paint from historical and cultural imagery a map of identity that intermingle Eastern and Western ideals of beauty, as well as mythologies. Believing that color stimulates a conversation between motion and shape, I transcribe life’s events through hue, shape and motion and translate onto canvas the magnificence of the world.”

“Stories of political power and day-to-day politics do not particularly interest me. There are too many imposed patterns and simplified versions of the truth in play. I find a subjective approach much more fruitful. My pictures are not simple to read. Already in their technical realization, they are too complex for easy access. Whenever I realize that a picture is becoming too harmonious and slick, I intervene and destroy what is pleasing.”

“For me, art is something emotional, not logical. My works are about the people who touched me with their facial expressions or the moment captured that had a lot of emotion behind it. Before deciding to make a living with my art, using my heart not my brain, I was in the social mold like a working ant. But now, I want to use my style (near Impressionism) to illustrate the tiny moments in our life that could be influenced by any field that connects the people and the world.”

“I create to give meaning to the world around me. Mystery is extremely important, as is often a sense and feeling of theatre. In this painting, The Forest and Eye, with layers of acrylic paint and the use of interference colors, I have tried to capture the magical and reflective light of a particular moment. Nature is living and embracing us to enter her forests to find peace and tranquility. As we observe her, perhaps she also observes us.”

Vanessa Wenwieser’s work places the female into the center of her imagination; liberating women from the typical male gaze and bringing her female perspective to the forefront. In her artworks, women are seen as beings with minds, emotions and intuitive power. Using the figure and allusive storytelling elements, Wenwieser examines the gap between appearance and being.

“I strive to create a unique statement, typically about beauty, nature, or family, but I want people to be attracted to the feel of the piece. My goal is to create something beautiful using leftovers and a bit of imagination. Leftovers meaning older paintings, stained papers, printed work, and various paper treasures. The final piece in no way resembles the fragments from which it arose. It’s a challenge to marry unlike oddments to create a pleasing composition and I love it.”

“My artwork explores the underlying personal narratives that share a universality of themes: vulnerability, loss, resilience, and hope.”

Canadian artist, Elizabeth Wood is based in Vancouver, BC. Her work explores the “underlying personal narratives that share a universality of themes: vulnerability, loss, resilience, and hope.” Wood’s practice is influenced by her childhood experience as an orphan, navigating an unstable world shaped by powerful emotions such as grief, loneliness, fear and hope. Ilze Egle

Vulnerability, 2023

Graphite and pencils on paper 72 x 75 cm

Ilze Egle is a contemporary artist based in Latvia, with an MA in Fine Arts. Ilze is a member of the Latvian Union of Artists and works in oil and mixed media with artwork ranging from small illustrations and landscapes to large-scale paintings and drawings focusing on nature, light, the female form and abstract marks. She teaches visual art and experiments with NFTs. Ilze grew up in the art world in a family of two artists, studied fine arts, art management and theology, and spent a year living with nuns. After working as an art curator for many years, she returned to art making, and her studio practice has since become her main focus. Ilze’s paintings have been exhibited internationally and are held in a number of private collections.

“Art is more than conveying a story, and my creative practice comes from where I am emotionally and my relationship with nature. I believe that we are all part of nature and connected. With my artwork, I capture moments and details that show the world’s beautiful fragility. I invite observers to pause, contemplate and be in the given moment. To the unhurried eye, the more detailed, intricate levels of my work are revealed. I paint and draw, working mostly in oil and mixed media. Often I incorporate drawing in my paintings. My art is between abstract and representational, color and black and white, inspired by life, nature, and light. I explore the serenity and the power of human emotions, and I wish to evoke a sense of wonder with my art. I believe that art can make a change in the world, and I feel blessed to be part of it.”
