Preparation: The Guided Oral Input strategy you will be using today is an Input Chart. Specifically, this is a Pictorial Input Chart on the first subtopic in the topic study. In the sample lesson, the topic is “Regions of France,” and the first subtopic is the Grand Est. The Pictorial Input Chart is very similar to the Visual Syllabus, explained in Session 25, in its setup and execution. One key difference is that instead of giving an overview of all the subtopics and Shape and Concept Categories, in a very general way, you will dive deeper into the first subtopic (the Grand Est in this example lesson) and teach more details about each of the Shape and Concept Categories.
The purpose of the Pictorial Input Chart is to expose students to the language and concepts that they will encounter again in the Expert Group Reading on the Grand Est (and also in the other pages that they will read in their “Expert Group” after the class finishes the lessons on the Grand Est.
