A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

As we embrace the Autumn/Winter 2024 season at Cidermill Theatre, we are bubbling with excitement to present a lineup of performances that promise to inspire, entertain, and connect us all. With our second anniversary just around the corner in September, we are truly grateful for the support and enthusiasm you’ve shown us over the past two years.

Our season kicks off with Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, a classic comedy brimming with wit and romance. We’ll then delve into the gripping legal drama National Theatre Live: Prima Facie, a powerful exploration of justice. For fans of classic literature, Austen’s Women: LADY SUSAN offers a delightful treat, while I’m Glad I Asked provides a poignant and personal journey through Michele O’Brien’s touching storytelling and a life-sized puppet representing her mother, Gena.

We’re thrilled to welcome back Tread the Boards Theatre Company with their enchanting Robin Hood: The Pantomime, a festive favourite returning for its third year to spread holiday cheer.

Music enthusiasts, get ready for a treat! The Henry Frampton Group will bring their

dynamic performance to our stage, and An Evening without Kate Bush will pay a special tribute to the iconic artist. Don’t miss The Big Country Music Show, where a sea of cowboy hats and classic hits from legends like Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton will fill our theatre with foot-stomping fun.

Comedy lovers can look forward to the endearing Dad’s Army Radio Show and the sharp humor of Simon Evans. Families will delight in the amazing Lucky Pigeons’ circus skills and Pippa Goodhart and Nick Sharratt’s You Choose, promising entertaining experiences for all ages.

Art aficionados, immerse yourself in Mary Cassatt: Painting the Modern Woman (Exhibition on Screen) and Hopper: An American Love Story (Exhibition on Screen), celebrating the beauty and depth of these artistic visions.

As always, we invite you to become part of our vibrant community by exploring volunteer opportunities. Your involvement is vital to our growth and success, and we warmly welcome your passion and dedication.

Mary Cassat: Painting the Modern Woman

FRI 27 SEP at 7:30pm £12

Mary Cassatt made a career painting the lives of the women around her. Her radical images showed them as intellectual, curious and engaging. This was a major shift in the way women appeared in art. Mary Cassatt, born in Pennsylvania in 1844, lived much of her adult life in France, to the extent that she became not an American artist but a French artist. In 1868, her painting A Mandolin Player became her first work to be accepted by the Paris Salon, the official art exhibition of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. Edgar Degas saw Cassatt’s work at the Salon and, in 1877, he asked her to exhibit with a new group called the Impressionists.

Hopper: An American Love Story

THUR 14 NOV at 7:30pm £12

Edward Hopper is one of history’s most influential artists, so often imitated by photographers, filmmakers, musicians and other artists. I was initially drawn in by the idea of a man who was cantankerous, monosyllabic, and unpleasant but what I’ve learnt is that this is a very unfair summary of the man; that he is much more complex and more appealing than that. He is a thoughtful artist and a master storyteller.

Hooray for Hollywood

FRI 23 NOV at 7:30pm £13

The Pinewood Saxophone Quartet unites four London-based saxophonists whose talents span a wide range of orchestral playing, chamber music, jazz, West End musicals and film music. The Pinewood players share a love of film music and are inspired by the affinity between the Hollywood and London film industries. In addition to drawing upon the repertoire legacy of the great Hollywood Saxophone Quartet of the 1950s, the Pinewood Quartet creates its own arrangements and also incorporates jazz improvisation into its performances.
