Dear Erich was commissioned by New York City Opera and received its world premiere in 2019 at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City.
Composed by leading jazz pianist and composer Ted Rosenthal, the story is inspired by letters written in Germany between 1938 and 1941 by Herta Rosenthal to her son Erich, the composer’s father.
Presented in collaboration with The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County and the Sid Jacobsen Jewish Community Center.

Tilles Center is committed to bringing the arts beyond the stage and into our community by welcoming learners of all ages. All of our programs share a common goal: to allow participants to experience the arts firsthand and develop a greater awareness of how the arts relate to our lives and the world around us.
A unique collaboration between artists and educators which uses the arts to foster critical thinking, literacy skills, creativity and problem solving. All projects culminate in a visit to Tilles Center for a professional performance. 2024/25 School Partnerships will serve over 2,000 students in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Tilles Center presents over 20 professional weekday performances each season, providing students and educators with affordable opportunities to enjoy worldclass, educational productions. Upwards of 15,000 students will attend the 2024/25 Curtains Up! Matinee series.
Programs that offer audiences on the autism spectrum and those who have limited movement, sensory and/or complex communication needs, and their
families, the opportunity to enjoy and experience dance, music and theater. Tilles Center’s original immersive production Branching Out is an interactive sensory journey through the four seasons, which will be featured in twelve performances in 2024/25.
For area students, Tilles Center provides artist residencies and master classes with world-renowned artists such as Patti LuPone, Kelli O’Hara, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and more. Tilles Center is the proud host of the Long Island Regional Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Festival, which will be offered again in February 2025.
Concert-style events, art making, music workshops, dance and theater classes and more designed for those with limited mobility, Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and caregivers.
Each season Tilles Center presents a number of weekend matinee performances for local families to enjoy, and hosts a preshow workshop, which provides unique opportunities for families to play and explore the arts together.
