Introduction In this project, we were tasked with designing a workplace design for an online company that wanted to rent out a building for all their employees.

Given the existing building and structure, we could decide on the entry and placement of all three/four floor levels. The ground entry was placed halfway between the basement and the main first floor. There are two exit stairs located in the corners of the building and an elevator and chair lift provided in the building.

Location: St. Louis, Missouri Size: approx. 20,000 sqft

Brand: Glossier.

Introduction Orginially, Glossier started in 2014 as a beauty website called Into The Gloss.

Where Glossier realized that “beauty shouldn’t be built in a boardroom - it should be built by you.”

Glossier focused on making products that celebrate freedom of expression, individuality, and having fun. They focused on makeup, skincare, bodycare, and fragrance products.

Zoning

By Glossier merging makeup, skincare, bodycare, and fragrance products, this helped formed the concept, coalesce, by focusing on merging multiple pieces together. There was a focus on centering the whole design around places that sparked conversation inspired from the original idea of Into The Gloss. By placing collaboration spaces or meeting rooms in the center of the building, it forces all the offices and work spaces to be near one another and work with each other. This made the design focus more on merging all the departments and employees, instead of keeping everything individualized.

Every floor incorporates the parti and the idea of central collaboration spaces between the different types of work stations. To highlight the collaboration spaces, the floor is “pulled” away from the circle to show the vertical continuity and to physically show the significance of the collaboration or merged spaces.

Not only does the shape of all the floors focus on the parti, but they are pulled away from the original windows to allow for natural light and to show off the features of the original building.

Placed on the ground floor to give vistors and employees the opportunity to buy the company’s products.

Ceiling Design

Each ceiling has a dropped layer effect that is wrapped around the collaboration spaces. It is a multi-layered and multi-colored blue ceiling to add contrast from the reds and pinks.

Arbour Winery

Introduction This project is a winery, winery tasting room, meeting & dining facility, and retail space located in Sonoma County, CA. The facility is housed in two seperate buildings located close to one another. In this location, there are Eastern views over the meadow on the project site to the mountains separating Sonoma from Napa Valley. The two buildings on the site feature a single story building that is around 4,000 sqft and a second building that is around 2,000 sqft that has the option to create a small mezzanine in it. The exisitng structure must be maintained.

Location: Sonoma County, CA Size: approx. 6,000 sqft

Concept: The Vine Focusing on the appearance of the vine, there is a frame and in-fill feel to the structure of the building. While applying repetition of lines, materials, and screening to reflect the effect of light in relation to the vine. There are features that represent the trunk, arms, and shoots through the columnar structure, details and connections. Lastly, materiality and color is displayed through furniture and material accents.

Features One feature in the project is light boxes seen in both buildings. The concept behind it was to replicate how light interacts and distorts through the vines and shoots of the vines.

INTRODUCTION This project is a retail shop of my own choosing that sits within any major city. Within the project, there are two requirements that feature the retail space and an activity space that is related to the retail. Being provided with an existing building, there was design freedom with how to move/ shape walls as along as the existing structure was not changed.

Location: San Deigo, CA Size: approx. 6,000 sqft

Concept: The Endless Summer The endless summer is the embodiment of a surfer’s dream.

Some describe it as the escape from life, chasing the summer around the world, or always being in search of the perfect wave.

There is a mix of modular and organic forms paired with arched structure. While there is a large focus on the colors and materials inspired from the beach.

Features Inspired from sets of waves rolling in, the ceiling replicates that with varied vaults. To keep the visual continuity of the arches and vaults, there is a light rail system for track and pendant lighting.

INTRODUCTION The purpose of this project was to create a collector’s coffee table based off of the option between three different styles. The three options were Scandinavian Modern, Modernisn, and Post Modernism. There was also requirements of the size of the project not exceeding 18” high or 36” long.

Wood Type: Hard Maple Time: 8 Weeks

Process

At the start of this project, there was a focus on emphasizing rational organic forms and the natural materials on the table. Was a large focus on the wood grain and pattern.

Inspired by multiple pieces from Alvar Aalto and Louis Poulsen’s PH5 Pendant. The unique almond shape takes form from the organic shapes of the ittala vase by Alvar Aalto.

Seen through photos, during the final building process, the table went through many challenges and designs after running into the problem of connecting the legs to the table top.

INTRODUCTION The purpose of this group project was to create a collection to design for small spaces. Each of these pieces can “go between” rooms and spaces, they don’t necessarily belong to a single area.

Our group designed a room divider, coat rack, vanity, and stools. I was tasked with designing and building both of the stools and coat rack.

Wood Type: White Oak Time: 2 Months

Process

Started testing the 2.5” radius steam bend with metal flat stock to hold the form. After completing 6 bends with the 2.5” radius, 2 of the bends were connected by dominoes to form loops. Once all the bends were glued into 3 separate loops, they were then connected and clamped with “triangle” shaped shelves to hold the 3 loops in place.

Started testing the plywood vacuum forming over a foam mold. After completing 4 vacuum formed plywood pieces, it was then connected to solid wood front legs. The interior and exterior were then veneered to match the solid white oak top and legs.
