CHRG VENUE REPORTS

WE ARE CHRG

For 50 years, CHRG has been a constant and supportive presence in Sydney’s North West. Originally established as Castle Hill RSL Club Ltd., CHRG has grown significantly over the decades and now proudly serves over 100,000 members. Our diverse range of venues includes Castle Hill RSL Club, Club Parramatta, Castle Hill Fitness & Aquatic Centre, Lynwood Golf & Country Club, and the recently added Castle Hill Bowling Club.

At the core of our mission is a deep commitment to giving back to the community, helping people live happier, healthier, and more connected lives. We create spaces where people can come together to enjoy shared experiences. Our venues provide a wide range of offerings, from dining and live entertainment to sports, recreation, and educational programs.

CHRG also takes pride in supporting a variety of community services, championing veterans, sponsoring youth initiatives, promoting the arts, and providing grants to local sporting groups. Our Board of Directors, with their collective experience and insight, guide our organisation’s growth and direction.

As CHRG continues to evolve, we remain dedicated to building vibrant, happy communities. The Board's vision is for CHRG to be a leading community-driven organisation within the club industry across Australia, making a positive impact both within and beyond our venues.

Our focus on diversification and sustainable support, through our corporate social responsibility and ClubGRANTS initiatives, enables us to maximise the positive outcomes we deliver for the communities we serve. It’s a member-driven approach, centred on understanding the people who benefit from our clubs—from the young to the young at heart. Our Board is deeply engaged with our community, guiding every decision to ensure CHRG is a leader in the industry.

CHRG WELCOMES MEMBERS AND VISITORS TO ITS VENUES.

the mini golf facility has something for everyone. It has already become a popular destination for both locals and visitors, further cementing Lynwood’s status as a premier leisure destination in the region.

The introduction of Lynwood Links Mini Golf demonstrates the club’s commitment to broadening its appeal and providing more inclusive and diverse experiences for its members and guests. It also speaks to the club’s resilience and ability to continue innovating, even in the face of external challenges. In many ways, this new facility symbolises the club’s ethos – creating opportunities and positive experiences, regardless of the obstacles faced along the way.

THE GREEN ROOM – A HUB OF INNOVATION

In addition to the success of Lynwood Links Mini Golf, Lynwood Golf & Country Club has introduced yet another exciting new feature: The Green Room. This space is an innovative multi-sport experience that includes two state-of-the-art simulators, offering a range of sports including golf, cricket, soccer, and more. The Green Room is a gamechanger for the club, providing members and guests with the opportunity to enjoy their favourite sports in a virtual environment that is as close to the real thing as it gets.

THE INTRODUCTION OF THE GREEN ROOM SPEAKS TO THE CLUB’S FORWARD-THINKING APPROACH AND ITS DEDICATION TO PROVIDING CUTTING-EDGE EXPERIENCES FOR ITS PATRONS.

Whether it’s honing your golf skills on a virtual course or practising your cricket swing, the simulators allow for a unique and engaging experience that is unlike anything else in the region. This offering is particularly attractive to those who may be unable to enjoy the outdoors due to weather conditions or time constraints, ensuring that there is always something to do at Lynwood, rain or shine.

CREATING DYNAMIC PLACES

The Green Room has been well received by the club’s members, proving to be a valuable addition not only as a recreational feature but also as a social hub. Groups and individuals alike are drawn to this space for its interactive nature, providing entertainment and competition in a relaxed environment. The versatility of the simulators, which cater to a wide range of sports, has added a new level of engagement and broadened the club’s reach.

LOOKING AHEAD: A BRIGHT FUTURE

The resilience displayed by Lynwood Golf & Country Club over the past 12 months is nothing short of remarkable. Despite facing significant challenges, the club has emerged stronger and more diverse in its offerings. The opening of Lynwood Links Mini Golf and The Green Room highlight the club’s commitment to expanding its appeal and creating experiences that cater to a wide audience.

The past year has not been easy, but Lynwood has once again proven that it can weather any storm –quite literally. The leadership, staff, and community members have worked tirelessly to restore and enhance the club, and their efforts have resulted in a venue that is not only back on its feet but flourishing.

As Lynwood looks to the future, the focus remains on providing top-tier facilities and unforgettable experiences for its members and guests. With new offerings such as mini golf and multi-sport simulators complementing the club’s traditional golfing experience, Lynwood is well-positioned to continue its growth and success in the years to come.

The challenges of the past year have only reinforced the importance of community, innovation, and resilience at Lynwood Golf & Country Club. With these core values at its heart, the club is set to continue thriving, no matter what comes its way. Lynwood is not just a place to play golf – it’s a place where the spirit of perseverance and the joy of sport come together to create something truly special.

“ONE

OF OUR STANDOUT ACHIEVEMENTS THIS YEAR WAS THE COMPLETION OF THE STATE-OF-THE-ART MINI GOLF COURSE AT LYNWOOD GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB... PROVIDING FUN AND ENJOYMENT TO MEMBERS OF ALL AGES.” GROUP PRESIDENT'S REPORT

As we reflect on the past year, I am proud to share how Castle Hill RSL Group (CHRG) has continued to thrive, innovate, and serve our 100,000 members despite the challenges facing the broader economy. Our community’s resilience, combined with the dedication of our 1,000 staff and contractors, has enabled us to deliver exceptional experiences, maintain strong financial stewardship, and remain focused on the future.

While many households across Australia have felt the impact of rising costs—whether through higher electricity bills, insurance premiums, or everyday expenses—we have worked hard to ensure that our venues remain welcoming, accessible, and a source of enjoyment for all. High-interest rates have certainly tested young families and those entering the housing market, but we’ve also seen positive outcomes for some of our retired members, who have benefited from the changes to help manage their living expenses.

Throughout it all, CHRG has continued its strong tradition of supporting the community, with total contributions to local projects and first-class facilities reaching $3.18 million. These investments demonstrate our unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life for our members and surrounding communities.

One of our standout achievements this year was the completion of the state-of-the-art Mini Golf Course at Lynwood Golf & Country Club,

which is already providing fun and enjoyment to members of all ages. In addition, our team worked tirelessly to restore the main golf course following devastating floods earlier in the year. Now, as we enter the spring season, the course looks magnificent—thanks to the dedication and expertise of our Golf team.

Another exciting development is the recent approval for the construction of a multi-level car park at Castle Hill RSL Club. Once completed, this new facility will provide our members with convenient, undercover parking, ensuring protection from the elements and easy access to the Club. While the approval process took longer than expected, we are confident that the final design, which considers the needs of our neighbours, will be a great addition to the area and improve the overall experience for everyone.

In addition to the car park, another key development was recently approved by Hills Shire Council, which will see the enhancement of the Bowling Club with an all-weather awning over the Green located closest to the clubhouse. This project includes the installation of a lightweight canopy with artificial grass and integrated lighting, enabling year-round use of the bowling green. The development will also feature new floodlights for the natural grass on the back Green.

Many of you will have noticed the refurbishments across our venues this past year, all designed to enhance your comfort and enjoyment when visiting any of our clubs. These improvements reflect our commitment to continually evolving and delivering the best possible member experience.

ON THE SUSTAINABILITY FRONT, WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE COMPLETED OUR SOLAR ENERGY PROJECTS AT LYNWOOD GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB, CLUB PARRAMATTA, CASTLE HILL FITNESS & AQUATIC CENTRE AND CASTLE HILL RSL CLUB.

These initiatives not only help reduce our environmental footprint, but also align with our vision of a more sustainable future. By harnessing renewable energy, we are ensuring long-term benefits for both our Group and the planet. The financial and operational health of CHRG remains a top priority for the Board of Directors and the Executive Management team. We are committed to delivering exceptional value to our members, while also staying agile and responsive to the challenges posed by the broader economic environment.

The addition of Mrs. Michelle Rofe, The Honourable David Elliott, and Mr. Paul Bryan to our Board this year has strengthened our leadership and governance, and I thank all our Directors for their wise counsel and tireless service.

I also extend my deepest gratitude to our retiring Directors for their years of dedication, and to our hardworking staff who are the true face of CHRG. Your passion, energy, and commitment to creating memorable experiences for our members are the driving forces behind our success.

Finally, I want to recognise the outstanding leadership of our Group CEO, Mr. David O’Neil. His vision, dedication, and ability to navigate the challenges of this past year have been instrumental in ensuring that CHRG remains strong, innovative, and well-positioned for continued growth.

Looking ahead, the outlook for CHRG remains bright. We are excited about the future as we continue to build on our core values of community, hospitality, and respect for our members.

With your continued support, we look forward to continuing to grow and develop our services for years to come.

(Castle Hill RSL Group)

“LOOKING AHEAD, THE OUTLOOK FOR CHRG REMAINS BRIGHT ...AS WE CONTINUE TO BUILD ON OUR CORE VALUES.”
“EACH OF OUR BUSINESSES IS METICULOUSLY DESIGNED TO CATER TO THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF OUR MEMBERS AND THE WIDER COMMUNITY.”

CHRG continues to thrive as a dynamic and expanding organisation, overseeing a diverse portfolio that spans four registered clubs, a comprehensive fitness and aquatic centre, a golf course, and bowling greens across three Local Government Areas (LGAs). Under the Castle Hill RSL Club Ltd. banner, our unified brand—CHRG— embodies our core values: Community, Hospitality, Respect, and Growth. Each of our businesses is meticulously designed to cater to the unique needs of our members and the wider community, strategically positioning us for sustained success and growth in the years to come.

GROUP TRADING SUMMARY

The past 12 months has certainly been a busy year with several challenges and opportunities. Despite the economic pressures and rising costs across all areas, the 2024 financial trading year was extremely successful for the Group.

The net profit after tax for the financial year amounted to $4,270,050 compared with $21,378,122 net profit after tax for the prior year, a decrease of $17,108,072 (80%). This result was achieved after recognising a gain on disposal of assets of $45,371 (2023: $15,922,792 gain on disposal of 7 Macquarie Street, Parramatta), including $12,782,577 (2023: $10,287,633) for depreciation and amortisation, $3,126,481 (2023: $2,359,088) for finance costs and $3,186,162 (2023: $2,460,383) for donations. The other comprehensive income of the Group during the year was NIL (2023: $6,845,190 gain on amalgamation with Castle Hill Bowling Club).

The overall total comprehensive income of the year was $4,270,050 (2023: $28,223,312). The decrease in net profit after tax for the 2024 financial year was due the extraordinary items, gain on amalgamation with Castle Hill Bowling Club and gain on the disposal of the old Club Parramatta car park.

CHRG has continued its commitment to our local communities, having donated $3.18m to worthwhile social, sporting and infrastructure programs. Whilst CHRG’s legislative commitment is only $1.2m, we believe it is a fundamental role of our organisation, and other Clubs, to continue to provide support to the community. CHRG provides more direct and indirect funding to the Hills, Hawkesbury and Parramatta communities than any other business or organisation—spending millions of dollars each year on sporting and community support programs, sporting infrastructure, and Veterans Services.

OPERATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS

This year has been an especially strong year for CHRG, marked by outstanding performance from Castle Hill RSL Club and Club Parramatta. Enhancements across our facilities and services— coupled with a focused effort on member engagement—have driven substantial growth in our membership. This success is a testament to the dedication of our management team and staff, whose hard work has been instrumental in achieving these outcomes.

OUR MEMBERSHIP HAS SURGED TO 100,000, REPRESENTING A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE OF ABOUT 45,000 MEMBERS COMPARED TO LAST YEAR.

This growth can largely be attributed to enhancements in our membership engagement programs. Notably, we are excited to introduce our “Join or Renew Forever” campaign, designed to reward members for their continued connection to CHRG.

UPCOMING DEVELOPMENTS

In September, we received unanimous support from Hills Shire Council and Sydney City Council Planning Committee for an exciting new project— an 860-space integrated multi-storey car park. Nestled behind a beautifully landscaped terraced garden, this covered car park will provide our members with secure and weather-protected parking. Scheduled to commence in 2025, this development will significantly enhance the facilities offered at our Castle Hill site. The car park is part of a broader development strategy that includes an integrated residential lifestyle development for 55yrs+, set to begin in late 2026. This project aims to create synergy with our sports, leisure, and hospitality services, positioning CHRG at the forefront of community lifestyle solutions.

FACILITY UPGRADES

To ensure our hospitality, leisure, and sports facilities remain relevant, we continue to invest in our premises. The Castle Hill Fitness and Aquatic Centre remains a crucial community asset, serving all age groups from 6 months to 90+. This year, we invested over $1.4 million in upgrading our cardio equipment and passenger lift, ensuring that our centre remains an inclusive and welcoming space for all, while continuing our support of local athletes.

At Castle Hill Bowling Club, we’ve seen tremendous growth in membership and participation since the amalgamation. With compliance issues now resolved and the clubhouse refurbished, our focus has shifted to enhancing the bowling greens. In September 2024, we received Development Approval for a $2 million all-weather synthetic bowling green, ensuring playability under all conditions.

Sustainability remains at the forefront of our strategic vision. This year, we successfully completed a major solar installation across all CHRG facilities, including Castle Hill RSL Club, Castle Hill Fitness & Aquatic, Club Parramatta, and Lynwood Golf & Country Club. This significant initiative underscores our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint and aligns with our broader goals of corporate social responsibility.

CHALLENGES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Lynwood Golf & Country Club has faced its fair share of challenges, particularly due to recurrent floods that necessitated the rebuild of the course after six separate flood events in recent years. Despite these setbacks, we have continued to invest in the Hawkesbury region, completing the Lynwood Links Mini Golf Course and a state-ofthe-art Green Room golf and sports simulator. These investments provide essential sports,

leisure, and entertainment infrastructure for the whole community to enjoy. While we continue to invest, the lack of government action on water management at Warragamba Dam remains a concern as the constant flooding impacts the region and results in continued rebuilding of sporting amenities, which, while challenging, is less heartbreaking compared to the personal losses faced by many residents.

I extend special thanks to Matt Bailey and his team for their tireless efforts in rebuilding the golf course and to our loyal members for their resilience and support during these challenging times. The dedication and passion of the Lynwood Golf membership is unparalleled and deeply appreciated.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

The achievements of the past year are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our Board and management team. I extend my sincere gratitude to President John Payne and the Board of Directors for their unwavering support.

A heartfelt thank you to the Senior Leadership Team: Nadeem Ali, Allan DePaoli, Denis Sullivan, Andrew Kelly, Brett Andrews, and Alison Brinkman. Your contributions have been outstanding.

“SUSTAINABILITY REMAINS AT THE FOREFRONT OF OUR STRATEGIC VISION...

OUR BROADER GOALS OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY . ”

A special acknowledgment goes to Group Chief Operating Officer Andy Abey for her steadfast dedication and commitment, particularly in managing and delivering on numerous initiatives and challenges this year.

I would also like to thank Executive Assistant Christine Duffy for her professionalism and support. Often an “unsung hero,” Christine’s assistance has been invaluable to the Board, Executive Leadership team, and myself.

As we celebrate Castle Hill RSL Club’s 50-year anniversary at our current site, I pay tribute to past Presidents, Board of Directors and managers, including ex-CEO Bruce Cameron for his 22 years of service through the 80s and 90s.

It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the loyal and dedicated staff throughout the group. We are fortunate to have many long-term employees who have made significant contributions to caring for our members and community. CHRG boasts more long-term employees than many comparable businesses, reflecting the positive culture within the organisation.

Castle Hill RSL Club has been privileged to have had many excellent Directors over the past 50 years. I have had the honour of working with exceptional Boards during my tenure, and I

respect the dedication, commitment, and skill each has brought. The Boards have been led by remarkable Presidents, including Rick Cumming, Major General Warren Glenny AO RFD ED (Rtd) (deceased), and current President John Payne, all of whom share a genuine passion and love for the Group and the community.

The past decade has been transformative for CHRG, and as we look ahead, I am confident that the next decade will bring even greater opportunities for growth and innovation. Our strategic plans are in place to ensure we continue to meet the evolving needs of our members and the broader community. The future is exciting, and I look forward to continuing this journey with you all. Thank you for your continued support and dedication.

STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY THROUGH CLUBGRANTS : A YEAR OF IMPACT AND CONNECTION

Clubs have long held a central role in fostering community spirit, offering more than just places for social gathering—they are cornerstones for connection, support, and growth.

Across CHRG, we embrace this responsibility wholeheartedly, recognising that our purpose extends beyond providing excellent hospitality, sport and leisure facilities. We are dedicated to creating lasting impacts that resonate with every member of our community—from the youngest to the oldest.

Our commitment is especially evident through the ClubGRANTS program, a critical lifeline that funds vital projects across our community. Whether it’s providing health services, supporting vulnerable groups, or creating inclusive spaces, the initiatives supported by ClubGRANTS address the most pressing issues facing our members. These projects, led by dedicated local organisations, have a profound influence on health, wellbeing, social engagement, and veteran support, helping to build a stronger, more connected community.

This year, the CHRG community is experiencing a wave of positive change through these initiatives, which continue to enhance the quality of life for

our residents. By focusing on critical issues such as mental health, community safety, inclusion, and honouring our veterans, we are fostering a more resilient, inclusive, and united community. Below, we highlight the key areas of focus and the organisations driving these vital initiatives.

AT CHRG , COMMUNITY IS AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING WE DO.

: RUN AGAINST VIOLENCEA

COLLABORATIVE APPROACH TO DOMESTIC AND FAMILY

VIOLENCE PREVENTION

In a landmark partnership, Run Against Violence (RAV) and CHRG have joined forces to launch a pilot program aimed at preventing domestic and family violence (DFV) in the Hills region. This groundbreaking initiative introduces a new grassroots Collaboration Framework, bringing together community stakeholders, prevention groups, and funding partners to work collectively toward a future free from DFV.

RAV is leading the development of the Framework under the guidance of co-founder Kirrily Dear, whose extraordinary feats of endurance running have raised both awareness and funds for DFV prevention. The Collaboration Framework addresses the need for coordinated efforts in tackling DFV. By focusing on primary prevention and mapping local initiatives, the program aims to create a unified approach to addressing the root causes of DFV. The pilot will work closely with frontline service providers, local police, and government action plans to ensure real-world impact, starting in the Hills region and eventually expanding nationwide.

This initiative marks a significant step in creating a safer and more supportive community for all.

CHRSL SUB BRANCH REPORT

CASTLE HILL & DISTRICT RSL SUB-BRANCH

sub-Branch has embraced this

Over the past year, the Returned & Services League (RSL) has maintained its unwavering focus on supporting veterans and their families. The Castle Hill & District RSL Sub-Branch has embraced this mission through various initiatives, including the expansion of our Gym program to incorporate partners, alongside the continuation of Guitar Therapy, Art Classes, and Lawn Bowls as part of our extensive Wellbeing Program. Notably, several of our members and their families participated in the 2024 City to Surf event as part of the RSL Sports & Recreation program. Additionally, we have engaged in the Intergenerational Learning Program, where members visit selected schools to share their experiences with students, fostering invaluable connections across generations.

Our Executive team has worked diligently to modernise our systems, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to Vice President of Personnel, Paul Harris Walker; Treasurer, Steven Beech; and Brigadier Phillip Bridie, who graciously stepped into the role of Secretary. I also wish to acknowledge our Administrative Assistant, Katherine Kirk, for her tireless efforts throughout the year, and express our gratitude to both Mark Costello and Katherine for their work on the website. Special thanks go to Chris Bennett for his coordination of RSL tributes for our members and other veterans at funeral

services. We deeply appreciate all our members who volunteered their time and services this year, and we encourage your continued involvement as your contributions are invaluable.

In 2024, we expanded our Commemoration Program to include the inaugural Middle East Area of Operations (MEAO) Commemorative Lunch. This event honours all those who served in operations in the Middle East—from the 1991 Gulf Wars through to Afghanistan and Iraq—paying tribute to those who lost their lives or health so that we may enjoy the freedoms we have today.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Club Ltd on its present site. We are also proud to celebrate 50-year membership milestones, recognising Ian Cox, Ian Jones, John Kellner, Paul Whittaker, Trevor Brennan, Phill Evenden, and Alan Roderick (who has since passed). In addition, the sub-Branch Auxiliary has crafted several “Thank You for Your Service” quilts, which were presented to Ray James (past President of RSL NSW), Paul Harris-Walker, Phillip Evenden, Mal Botfield, Ken Norris, Bruce Robinson, John McAuley, John Madigan, Frank Di Stefano, David Hand, and Phillip Bridie.

We are pleased to announce that Reverend Colin Aitkin has been appointed sub-Branch Chaplain, a position he has honourably fulfilled for many years. Colonel Don Tait has been awarded the prestigious RSL Meritorious Service Medal, which will be presented to him at this year’s RSL NSW Congress by the Governor of NSW. Additionally, RSL Life Memberships have been awarded to David Hand, Mike Yeo, Cheryl Hill, and Mal Botfield.

Our sub-Branch has initiated quarterly Coffee and Chat Morning Teas, and during the July gathering, we had the privilege of celebrating John McAuley’s 100th birthday. John is a valued sub-Branch member who served in the RAAF during WWII.

Membership of the sub-Branch, as well as the Auxiliary, continues to grow. Veterans’ families have also started a War Widows social group in the Hills District, and we are delighted to welcome many of our widows as new members. I extend my sincere thanks to the Castle Hill RSL & District Auxiliary for their tireless efforts in knitting, crocheting, and sewing to raise funds for RSL Life Care.

We remain committed to providing training opportunities for our members, with courses held this past year including St John’s Ambulance, Mental Health First Aid, and Welfare Support Officer training. Additionally, one of our members attained a Compensation Level 2 Certificate. Our Remembrance Day Service, held on 11 November at the entrance to the RSL, was well attended, as was the Australia Day Flag Planting ceremony.

A KEY HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR WAS THE UNVEILING OF A LIFESIZE SOLDIER SILHOUETTE AND PLAQUE AT WAVES POOL, BAULKHAM HILLS, IN RECOGNITION OF ITS PAST AS A WAR MEMORIAL.

The ANZAC Day Dawn Service, held at the Centenary of ANZAC Reserve, drew approximately 10,000 attendees who came to pay their respects.

We also live-streamed the event, which was viewed by 2,500 people. The service featured a flyover by a Hercules C130, organised by Frank Di Stefano. I would like to thank Vice President of Commemorations, Rees John, and his team for their excellent work in organising these important events.

Our Secondary School ANZAC Youth Ambassadors program continues to thrive, with the ambassadors playing a vital role in various events, including

the Dawn Service, where they spoke about “The Navy during the Gulf Wars.” I commend their professionalism and hard work and thank their support team for guiding them through this rewarding experience.

Castle Hill and District RSL sub-Branch

CITY OF PARRAMATTA RSL SUB-BRANCH

The close out to 2023 saw the Parramatta sub-Branch relocate from the office adjacent to Club Parramatta to a nearby heritage cottage for the next two years, due to the sale of the car park to developers.

2024 has seen the continued successful operation of the sub-Branch and during this year, we have seen our membership slowly growing with younger veterans and affiliate members. We have had a successful social program running with various social excursions, wellness activities including morning teas, and a formal dinner.

ANZAC Day dawn service 2024 was hailed as a huge success. Led by our Chaplain, Monsignor John Boyle with our guest speaker, Lieutenant Colonel Colin Shadbolt from the 1st / 15th Royal New South Wales Lancer Regiment. The service attracted in excess of 5000 people to Prince Alfred Park. Our thanks once again to the Parramatta Council for the superb preparation of the park and with the coordination of the Dawn Service. A VIP Breakfast was hosted by the sub-Branch at Club Parramatta at the conclusion of the Dawn Service for ADF and Emergency Service personnel.

Leading up to ANZAC Day, our members undertook the conduct of many ANZAC services at Aged Care Facilities in our local area. They gave the ageing veterans an opportunity to commemorate this day. We had sub-Branch Representation at ANZAC Day services conducted at Westmead Hospital, Thales Defence Industries and The Department of Education. Similarly, Remembrance Day also attracted a significant effort by the sub-branch members in the local community with services and commemorations.

Our sub-Branch remains actively involved with visitations to our members that reside in aged

care facilities. The visitation team, whilst only small, covers a lot of ground. Many thanks to Vice President David Williams and his team in particular Steve Wolfenden and Roderick Hilliker who dedicate a substantial amount of time to visit these members.

Our sub-Branch committee is very active with behind the scenes activities. Various meetings and representation at the Far Western Metropolitan District Council (FWMDC), our own Governance and Executive meetings seem to occupy a large portion of our weeks. Our sub-Branch also hosts a FWMDC meeting annually in May. Our sub-Branch is further represented at the annual NSW RSL State Congress by select Committee Executives.

Our social media platform continues to operate, as does our curatorship of our memorabilia collection. We are becoming more active with social and welfare activities. We also continue to be active among the local primary and secondary schools with various programmes to support and promote the veteran community and provide education overview.

Our sub-Branch has enjoyed a resurgence of activity post-covid. We continue conducting a small group social / welfare activity to get people out and about. Ferry trips along the Parramatta River into Cockatoo Island, train and ferry trips to Manly, and other local points of interest, typically end with a jovial pub style lunch at our destinations. We have held several catered morning teas throughout the last twelve months. At our most recent morning tea, five War Widows were presented with medallions commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the end of World War Two. They happily accepted the medallions in the memory of their late husbands. Our sub-Branch held its first Black-Tie Spring Dinner and will shortly

hold the 2024 Spring Dinner. These Dinners are becoming an important aspect of our social calendar as this allows our members to gather and share memories and to make new ones. It also gives our members a chance to socialise with Local VIPs from Council, ADF and Emergency Services along with Executives from CHRG (Castle Hill RSL Group).

On behalf of our members, I would like to acknowledge and thank CHRG Board President, Mr John Payne, the CHRG Board of Directors, Group CEO, Mr David O’Neil, Group COO, Ms Andy Abey and all the Club Parramatta Managers and staff that provide our sub-Branch outstanding support in the conduct of our activities. I would also like to thank the sub-Branch committee that provides valuable contributions and support to our sub-Branch.

If members are in hospital and would like to have a visit from our welfare team, please contact the sub-Branch office. Our sub-Branch monthly general meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month (excluding December) commencing at 6:30pm. All are welcome and it would be great to see you there.

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF CASTLE HILL RSL CLUB : A COMMUNITY PILLAR

As Castle Hill RSL Club marks its 50th anniversary at its current location on Castle Street, it’s a time for reflection on its extraordinary journey from humble beginnings to becoming a cornerstone of the Hills District community.

In 1974, Castle Hill RSL relocated to its 5-hectare property on Castle Street due to the rapid growth in membership and influence. The original site, though suitable at first, became too small to accommodate the increasing needs of the community. This move allowed the club to expand its offerings and services, making it the dynamic community hub it is today.

Over the past five decades, Castle Hill RSL has undergone continuous development, adapting to the changing needs of its members while preserving its strong connection to the local community. From providing top-notch sports facilities to hosting a wide range of entertainment and dining experiences, the club has become a vital part of life in the Hills District.

A LEGACY OF SERVICE & COMMUNITY SPIRIT

The roots of Castle Hill RSL lie in serving returned servicemen and women, offering them a space to come together, support each other, and foster a

sense of camaraderie. While the club has evolved, this core mission of community service has remained steadfast.

Throughout its 50-year history, Castle Hill RSL has not only served its members but has also been an active supporter of the local community. From charitable initiatives to ClubGRANTS programs and the sponsorship of local sports teams and organisations, the club has been a driving force behind many community-building efforts in the region.

The wide array of sub-clubs and sporting activities available has further strengthened social bonds within the Hills District, providing members with opportunities to engage in shared interests and build lasting relationships.

A PREMIER ENTERTAINMENT DESTINATION

Entertainment has always been at the heart of Castle Hill RSL, and the club has built a strong reputation as a premier venue for live performances, dining, and social events. Over the years, it has hosted a diverse range of shows, bringing both local and international talent to its stages.

As part of its 50th-anniversary celebrations, the club revisited some of its most iconic moments, with performances from acts like The Radiators, Joe Camilleri & The Black Sorrows and Wa Wa Nee proved to be a highlight. The revival of the legendary Redz Nitespot, a much-loved feature from the club’s history, was a hit for many longstanding members, rekindling fond memories of unforgettable nights.

Castle Hill RSL has embraced change while holding firmly to its traditional values of service, camaraderie, and community support. Over the years, the club has seen numerous upgrades and enhancements, ensuring that it remains a state-ofthe-art facility that meets the evolving needs of its members.

Dining has been a key focus, with the club continually updating its food and beverage offerings to reflect modern tastes. As part of the anniversary celebrations, members enjoyed a culinary journey through the club’s history, with menu specials inspired by dishes from past decades.

The recent introduction of the Digital Membership Card is another example of the club’s forwardthinking approach, allowing members easier access to club services, event bookings, and promotional updates through a digital interface.

and blend harmoniously with the surrounding environment, reflecting the club’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and communityfocused design.

This development is just one part of Castle Hill RSL’s vision for the future. The club remains dedicated to expanding its offerings and continuing to invest in its facilities, all while maintaining its deep connection to the community. Plans are underway to introduce more programs that engage younger members and promote inclusivity, ensuring that the next generation can experience the same sense of belonging that has defined Castle Hill RSL for half a century.

AS CASTLE HILL RSL CELEBRATES THIS MILESTONE, IT STANDS AS A SYMBOL OF RESILIENCE, GROWTH, AND COMMUNITY SPIRIT.

From its origins as a modest gathering space for servicemen and women to its current status as a thriving social and entertainment hub, the club’s journey is a testament to its ability to adapt, innovate, and remain a vital part of the Hills District. Here’s to the next 50 years – a future filled with tradition, innovation, and unforgettable experiences.

services. We deeply appreciate all our members who volunteered their time and services this year, and we encourage your continued involvement as your contributions are invaluable.

As Castle Hill RSL reflects on its 50 years at Castle Street, the future promises even more growth and community engagement. One of the most exciting developments on the horizon is the construction of a new multi-storey car park. This architecturally designed facility will add 862 parking spaces, including around 700 undercover bays, while incorporating sustainable elements such as a green terrace and electric vehicle charging stations.

The new car park will improve accessibility and convenience for members, ensuring a seamless experience when visiting the club. It will also feature acoustic treatments to minimise noise

CLUB PARRAMATTA: FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH

As we look back over the past 12 months, it’s clear that Club Parramatta has continued to go from strength to strength, solidifying its reputation as a vibrant and welcoming destination for both members and the broader Parramatta community. The club’s commitment to enhancing the member experience, combined with innovative venue improvements and a focus on community, has seen it emerge stronger than ever. Several exciting developments have contributed to this growth, positioning Club Parramatta as a key player in the region’s social and cultural scene.

UNDERGROUND PARKING CONVENIENCE

One of the most significant improvements made this year has been the completion of the underground car park. This state-of-the-art facility is more than just a convenience; it is a testament to Club Parramatta’s ongoing dedication to providing a high-quality experience for its members and guests. The car park offers safe, secure, and easily accessible underground parking, ensuring that members can enjoy the club’s amenities without the usual concerns about finding a space or walking long distances.

For those who work in Parramatta’s bustling CBD or attend events at Parramatta Park or Parramatta Stadium, the car park also presents a convenient

paid parking solution. It has become a popular choice for local professionals and event-goers, offering both ease of access and peace of mind. This initiative has not only enhanced convenience for our members and guests but has also created a valuable new revenue stream. The proceeds from the paid parking facility contribute to the club’s ongoing operations and its ability to support local community projects and initiatives.

This dual function – convenience for patrons and income generation for the club – represents a win-win, underlining how Club Parramatta is committed to serving its members while ensuring financial sustainability that benefits the wider community.

A PLACE TO MEET

Another exciting area of progress at Club Parramatta over the last year has been the resurgence of our event centre. After a slower than expected recovery post-COVID, we are now seeing fantastic growth. The centre has quickly regained its status as one of the premier venues for corporate events and social gatherings in the region. With the upcoming holiday season fully booked, it’s clear that confidence has returned, and the community is eager to celebrate

It also speaks to the club’s resilience and ability to continue innovating, even in the face of external challenges. In many ways, this new facility symbolises the club’s ethos – creating opportunities and positive experiences, regardless of the obstacles faced along the way.

This return to form speaks not only to the quality of the venue but also to the dedicated team at Club Parramatta, who have worked tirelessly to ensure that every event is a success. The booking calendar for the coming months is already filling up, and we expect this positive trend to continue as word spreads about the exceptional experience we offer.

ROOFTOP: A NEW URBAN EXPERIENCE

THE GREEN ROOM – A HUB OF INNOVATION

A highlight of our year has undoubtedly been the opening of ROOFTOP, a re-imagined take on the urban rooftop bar. This chic new addition to Club Parramatta has quickly become a go-to destination for after-work drinks, casual gatherings, and special celebrations. With its sweeping views of Parramatta Park and the surrounding urban skyline, ROOFTOP offers a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere, perfect for unwinding after a long day.

We remain focused on ensuring that Club Parramatta continues to provide value to our members, not only through convenience and exceptional service but also by contributing to the broader community. Whether through providing safe parking options, creating memorable event experiences, or offering new and exciting venues like ROOFTOP, we are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for everyone in Parramatta.

With our continued commitment to excellence, Club Parramatta is set to go from strength to strength, further cementing its place as a leading destination in the heart of Parramatta. As we move forward, we will continue to listen to our members, innovate, and invest in our future. Together, we are building a club that not only meets the needs of today but will serve the community for generations to come.

THE INTRODUCTION OF THE GREEN ROOM SPEAKS TO THE CLUB’S FORWARD-THINKING APPROACH AND ITS DEDICATION TO PROVIDING CUTTING-EDGE EXPERIENCES FOR ITS PATRONS.

ROOFTOP's cocktail-focused menu is a standout feature, offering an eclectic mix of classic and signature drinks that appeal to a wide range of tastes. The Asian-inspired snack menu is designed for sharing, making it ideal for groups of friends or colleagues looking to enjoy a casual yet memorable evening together. The fusion of bold flavours and fresh ingredients has proven to be a hit, adding a unique twist to the traditional bar experience.

The success of ROOFTOP has been phenomenal, and it is quickly establishing itself as one of Parramatta’s most exciting venues. The combination of expertly crafted cocktails, a diverse snack menu, and an unbeatable location makes it a must-visit for both club members and visitors to the area.

A BRIGHT FUTURE

The Green Room has been well received by the club’s members, proving to be a valuable addition not only as a recreational feature but also as a social hub. Groups and individuals alike are drawn to this space for its interactive nature, providing entertainment and competition in a relaxed environment. The new underground car park, the rejuvenation of our event centre, and the success of ROOFTOP all signal a bright future for the club. We are not just a place for our members to gather; we are a vibrant part of the Parramatta community, offering a diverse range of experiences that cater to the needs of everyone who walks through our doors.

LYNWOOD GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB: A YEAR OF RESILIENCE AND GROWTH

The strength and resilience of Lynwood Golf & Country Club has once again been tested in recent months. It is a venue that has faced the devastating effects of of two recent flood events. Located in the Hawkesbury, a region prone to extreme weather conditions, Lynwood has been no stranger to the challenges that come with its unique geography. However, what has truly set the club apart this year is its ability to endure and thrive, turning adversity into an opportunity for growth and innovation.

BOUNCING BACK AFTER FLOOD EVENTS

The recurrence of flood events could easily have cast a shadow over Lynwood’s operations. Floods disrupt business, impact the landscape, and leave behind significant restoration work. However, despite these setbacks, the team at Lynwood Golf & Country Club remained focused on rebuilding and improving their offerings. The floods were not treated as insurmountable obstacles but rather as hurdles that the club could overcome with determination and community spirit.

One of the most inspiring aspects of this year has been witnessing how the Lynwood community –members, staff, and management alike – rallied together after each flood. The grounds team

worked tirelessly to restore the course, ensuring that it remained playable and welcoming for members and guests alike. The dedication to maintaining the venue’s high standards despite these challenges reflects Lynwood’s commitment to excellence and its importance to the local community.

LYNWOOD LINKS MINI GOLF – A NEW DIMENSION

While rebuilding and recovering from the floods, Lynwood Golf & Country Club also took a bold step forward by introducing Lynwood Links Mini Golf, a fantastic new attraction that has expanded the club's appeal. Officially opened in July, Lynwood Links Mini Golf adds a whole new dimension to the club's offerings, welcoming players of all ages and skill levels to experience a fun, accessible, and challenging course designed to entertain.

Lynwood Links Mini Golf features 18 uniquely designed holes, set within beautifully landscaped surroundings, perfectly complementing the natural beauty of the club’s grounds. THE ROLE OF SPORT AT CHRG

Sport plays a pivotal role in the fabric of CHRG venues, offering our members and guests a variety of opportunities to engage in physical activity, whether for leisure or competition. Over the past 12 months, we have witnessed incredible sporting achievements across Castle Hill Fitness & Aquatic Centre, Lynwood Golf & Country Club, and Castle Hill Bowling Club. These successes, driven by our members, staff, and coaches, not only highlight the importance of sport in our community but also underscore the growth and development that CHRG continues to foster.

In September 2023, we marked the one-year anniversary of William Harkins' appointment as Bowls Coordinator at Castle Hill Bowling Club. Under William's leadership, supported by the dedicated Bowls Committee, the club has gone from strength to strength. This partnership has transformed the club, building a supportive and competitive atmosphere that continues to draw players, both new and seasoned.

On the green, the past year has been a triumph for Castle Hill Bowling Club. Our Mid-Week B-Grade Pennants team achieved remarkable success, finishing as runners-up in the 2023-2024 season. This accomplishment reflects the commitment and skill of our players and further solidifies our reputation as a formidable competitor in the regional lawn bowls scene.

The men's Division 2 team also had an outstanding run, reaching the semi-finals in their competition. Meanwhile, our women's teams have been equally impressive. The Ladies' team made headlines by securing the Grade 1 Regional Flag for the 2023-2024 season, an incredible achievement that brought immense pride to our club. Their

continued participation and success in regional championships demonstrate the strength and depth of talent we have cultivated within our ranks.

A significant highlight for the club this year was hosting our first large-scale tournament, an event that attracted 28 teams from across Sydney. This tournament was an important milestone for Castle Hill Bowling Club, showcasing our ability to host high-level competitions while reinforcing our position as a hub for lawn bowls in the region. The event was a resounding success, not just in terms of competition but also in fostering camaraderie among players and building connections with other clubs.

Looking ahead, we aim to expand our tournament calendar, leveraging our upgraded facilities to attract even more prestigious events.

This forward-looking approach will further establish Castle Hill Bowling Club as a premier destination for lawn bowls and ensure that our members continue to enjoy high-level competition on home turf.

Lynwood Golf & Country Club has faced its fair share of challenges, particularly with the ongoing impact of weather conditions over the past few years. Once again, the club had to contend with flooding, a recurring hurdle that could have derailed progress. However, Lynwood has proven its resilience time and again, continuing to grow and flourish despite these obstacles.

“AT

CASTLE HILL FITNESS & AQUATIC CENTRE,

SPORT AND FITNESS ARE AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING WE DO.”
ONE

OF THE KEY AREAS OF GROWTH HAS BEEN THE INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF JUNIOR AND WOMEN GOLFERS.

This expansion has not only enhanced the vibrancy of the club but also contributed to the overall growth of golf participation at Lynwood. The club has worked diligently to create a welcoming environment for all skill levels, encouraging new players to take up the sport while providing ample opportunities for development.

In June, we opened a new Mini Golf course, which has quickly become a favourite addition to our facilities. Alongside the simulators and expansive driving range, the Mini Golf course provides an engaging entry point for those looking to try golf for the first time. It's a perfect example of how we continue to innovate and evolve to meet the needs of our community, offering something for everyone, regardless of age or experience.

Lynwood's commitment to inclusivity and growth ensures that it remains a key player in the region's golfing community. As we move forward, we plan to further enhance our facilities and programs, ensuring that Lynwood continues to be a place where players of all levels can enjoy the sport, improve their skills, and form lasting friendships.

At Castle Hill Fitness & Aquatic Centre, sport and fitness are at the heart of everything we do. Our facilities cater to a wide range of activities, from gymnastics and swimming to strength training and personal development. Over the past 12 months, we have implemented several key improvements that have further enriched the experience for our members.

In gymnastics, we replaced the spring-loaded floors, ensuring that our athletes have the best possible equipment to train and compete on. We also added an advanced level to our Recreation program, catering to the growing demand for more challenging activities. Our Kindergym and Babygym programs continue to thrive, providing young families with the opportunity to get active while learning valuable life skills in a fun and supportive environment.

The swim centre has also enjoyed a year of success, with our Dolphins Swim Club leading the way. The club's focus on water safety and education has resonated with local schools, many of which now place a strong emphasis on these essential skills during their visits. This commitment to safety and learning aligns with our mission to promote a healthy, active lifestyle for all members of our community. On the gym floor, we have seen a steady stream of both aspiring and established professional athletes using our facilities. Our team of trainers continues to provide expert guidance and support, helping members achieve their fitness goals, whether they are training for elite competition or personal health.

As we reflect on the past year, it is clear that sport continues to play a vital role at CHRG venues. From lawn bowls and golf to gymnastics and swimming, we are proud of the achievements of our members and the progress we have made in enhancing our facilities. Looking forward, we are committed to building on these successes, expanding our sporting programs, and continuing to provide world-class facilities for all our members. With exciting plans in the works, including more major tournaments, new programs, and facility upgrades, we are confident that CHRG will remain a leader in sport and fitness for years to come.

CASTLE HILL BOWLING CLUB:

A YEAR OF ACHIEVEMENT & GROWTH

The past 12 months have been a period of remarkable progress, growth, and success for Castle Hill Bowling Club, marking significant milestones in its history within the Castle Hill RSL Group (CHRG). This past year has seen the club reach new heights, from competitive achievements on the green to improvements in infrastructure, membership growth, the introduction of key personnel, and digital transformation. As we look back on the year, it is clear that Castle Hill Bowling Club is solidifying its position as a premier destination for both social and competitive lawn bowling in Sydney.

MEMBERSHIP GROWTH

Castle Hill Bowling Club has seen substantial growth in membership over the past 12 months. Prior to the amalgamation with CHRG, the club had 185 members. By mid-2024, membership had grown to nearly 220, a testament to the club’s increasing appeal and the value of the community we have built.

This growth is a reflection of the club's continued commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all, whether new to bowls or seasoned players. The amalgamation with CHRG has provided the platform for this expansion, offering members enhanced facilities and benefits. We are confident that membership will continue to grow as we invest further in our facilities, events, and overall member experience.

NOTABLE COMPETITIVE SUCCESSES

On the green, our teams have enjoyed great success over the past year. Our Mid-Week B-Grade Pennants team achieved a remarkable result, finishing as runners-up in the 2023-2024 season. The men’s Division 2 team also had a strong showing, reaching the semi-finals in their respective competition.

The success of our women’s teams continues to shine, with the Ladies' team achieving a significant victory in the Grade 1 Regional Flag for the 2023-2024 season. Their continued performance in the regional championships is a source of immense pride for the club and demonstrates the strength and skill of our players.

These competitive achievements not only reflect the dedication of our members but also further solidify Castle Hill Bowling Club’s reputation as a competitive force in lawn bowls within the region.

HOSTING MAJOR TOURNAMENTS

Castle Hill Bowling Club was proud to host its first major tournament this year, attracting 28 teams from across Sydney. This event was a significant milestone for the club, showcasing our ability to host large-scale competitions and further establishing our position within the broader lawn bowls community.

“WE ARE COMMITTED TO BUILDING ON THIS YEAR’S SUCCESSES AND LOOK FORWARD TO AN EXCITING AND PROSPEROUS YEAR AHEAD.”

The tournament provided an excellent opportunity for members to engage with players from other clubs while reinforcing Castle Hill Bowling Club as a hub for high-level competition. We look forward to expanding our event calendar in the future, leveraging our upgraded facilities to attract even more prestigious tournaments.

MEMBER REPRESENTATION IN NATIONAL COMPETITIONS

Our members have also made their mark on the national stage, with a group travelling to Dubbo to compete in the State Championships. Additionally, 14 of our members represented the club at the Australian Open, one of the largest and most prestigious events in the lawn bowls calendar. Their participation in these major events demonstrates the talent and competitive spirit within our club, and we are proud of their accomplishments.

APPOINTMENT OF A BOWLS COORDINATOR

A key development for Castle Hill Bowling Club this year was the appointment of William Harkins as Bowls Coordinator. William brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the role, having been deeply involved in the bowls community for many years. His leadership and expertise will be invaluable in supporting the club’s ongoing growth and success.

William’s responsibilities include overseeing the club’s competitive fixtures, coordinating training sessions, and enhancing the overall experience for our members, from social bowlers to elite competitors. His focus on building a strong, inclusive community around the sport will be central to ensuring that Castle Hill Bowling Club remains a leader in both competitive and social lawn bowls in the region. We are thrilled to have William on board and look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have on the club’s future.

DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

In addition to the on-green developments, Castle Hill Bowling Club also launched a new website this year, making it easier than ever for members to stay connected and informed. The website provides comprehensive access to competition results, membership resources, and details of upcoming events, ensuring that members are always in the loop. Additionally, the website highlights the club’s restaurant, bar, and event spaces, making it a versatile destination for both sporting and social gatherings.

This digital transformation aligns with CHRG’s wider commitment to enhancing the member experience through the use of technology. The response from members has been overwhelmingly positive, and we look forward to continuing to improve our online offerings to meet the evolving needs of our community.

INFRASTRUCTURE ENHANCEMENTS

A major highlight for the club this year has been the approval of the Development Application (DA) by The Hills Shire Council, allowing for significant upgrades to our facilities. Plans have been approved for the construction of a state-of-the-art undercover carpet bowling green, ensuring yearround play, rain or shine. This development will provide our members and visitors with a premium playing experience while increasing our capacity to host more events and competitions. Additionally, the installation of lights on the number 2 green will allow for evening play, further expanding the club's availability for both casual games and organised competitions.

These infrastructure improvements demonstrate our ongoing commitment to enhancing the member experience and positioning Castle Hill Bowling Club as one of the leading lawn bowls venues in Sydney. The anticipation for the completion of these works is high, and we look forward to unveiling the enhanced facilities in the near future.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

As we reflect on the last 12 months, it’s clear that Castle Hill Bowling Club has much to be proud of. With the appointment of William Harkins as Bowls Coordinator, significant infrastructure upgrades on the horizon, growing membership numbers, and continued success on the greens, the future is bright. We are committed to building on this year’s successes and look forward to an exciting and prosperous year ahead for Castle Hill Bowling Club. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our members, staff, and the CHRG community for their continued support and dedication. Together, we will continue to grow and thrive as one of Sydney’s leading lawn bowls clubs.
