Wedding shows are good events to attend to jump-start your wedding plans. For those couples just beginning to plan their wedding, attending a bridal show can help generate ideas for your special day.
Each show is unique. Be open to new ideas and different types of businesses that you may not have thought about before. For instance, you may be attending a show to explore wedding reception venues but then unexpectedly meet an insurance agent who shares the benefits of wedding insurance. Or maybe you were exploring bridal salons but suddenly discover a jazz band accepting wedding gigs.
Be mindful that you are attending the event to learn, so think like a student. It's wise to bring a pen, notepad, and tote bag to collect literature from businesses at the event. Additionally, if you know that a company you are interested in will be at the show, have questions already prepared.
If the wedding show promoter publishes a list of participating vendors in advance, decide at the beginning who are the top vendors on your list to visit during the show.
When visiting a vendor booth, representatives will most assuredly ask for your email address for marketing purposes. Therefore, consider setting up a dedicated email address devoted solely to wedding planning activities; doing so makes it much easier to handle incoming emails from vendors.
It is not a bad idea to bring your significant other or trusted advisor with you to the event. They can act as a sounding board and support for you. Moreover, having them attend the event with you builds excitement, making the event more enjoyable.
If you have ever been to any trade shows in the past, you may already know that there will be many vendors there enticing you with contests and special offers. By knowing this ahead of time, you can prepare in advance. Consider bringing a sheet of peel-off mailing labels containing your contact information. Use preprinted labels to effortlessly add your contact info to forms and contest entries instead of repeatedly writing it each time.
Many events have special programs scheduled during
the show. If possible, find out what time featured attractions will take place, which will allow you to plan what time you will attend in an effort to get the most out of the event.
If the event is an online virtual event, there are several additional suggestions to consider listed here. First, if possible, test your computer or mobile device to ensure that it operates correctly with the virtual event platform. Also, add the event to your calendar as a reminder.
Before the event begins, it is wise to turn off phone and computer notifications to help keep you remain focused on the show. When possible, schedule appointments ahead of time with participating vendors with whom you want to meet.
Most importantly, enjoy the event. Attending wedding shows in person or virtually can be a lot of fun as well as informative. Not only will you leave with great advice and ideas for your wedding, but you may even have the chance to win great prizes from the event sponsors.
Follow these suggestions can help make your wedding show attendance worthwhile.

Do you need a wedding theme? Or, is creating a wedding style a better alternative? There are so many decisions to make leading up to the wedding day.
Well, let’s begin by asking the main question. Is a theme actually needed? Most often, when couples discuss developing a theme for their wedding, they are in reality, speaking about creating a style or mood for the event. However, there are times when couples, in fact, want a themed wedding.
So, what is the difference between a style and a theme wedding? A wedding style is essentially the desired overall look and feel created by the décor, music, and other elements. In contrast, a wedding theme is a specific subject or topic whereby all of the planning is based around.
There are many themes and styles that couples can use as inspiration. There are no hard and fast rules. The important thing is to create a theme, style, or a combination of the two that fits the couple’s taste. Here are several themes and styles to inspire couples during their wedding planning. For this article, we will use the word themes and styles interchangeably.
It’s no surprise; many couples are inclined to use the season as their style inspiration.
Depending on what season the wedding is held, help determine what colors, flower selection, and decor to use.
Using a fall theme wedding can create rich, beautiful tones that mirror the changes in nature during the autumn months. It is easy to add elements, color, and texture that reflect beautiful foliage and bountiful harvest. Use a pumpkin patch and colored leaves as accents or bundles of freshly harvested fruits and vegetables as decoration and wedding favors.
Adding colorful summer flowers and greenery is a beautiful way to host a summer-styled wedding. Because many of the flowers are in season during these months, this theme may be a more affordable solution for many couples. Several well-placed sunflowers along with vases of limes and lemons can be an easy decorative option with minimal effort.
Oh, the wonders of winter. The white snow. The holiday festivities. The warm candle lights and crackling fireplaces. A winter wedding can be an elegant, inviting event. When using whites and green garland as the main decor, adding a few accents here and there like crystals, lights, and other decorative pieces can add drama to the event space.
Simple pastels, delicate flowers, and greenery are a great start to this outdoor-inspired wedding theme. A beautiful garden setting is perfect for a spring wedding.
Several attractions to consider are adding edible flowers to the beverages and giving guests wedding favors that include packets of seeds or cut flowers. But, of course, garden weddings can also be planned throughout the summer and fall months, weather permitting.
Whether the couple is celebrating their LGBTQ pride love or simply
like a more diverse color scheme, a rainbow wedding may be the perfect alternative. Ways to usher in color in this vibrant event include incorporating various color plates, glassware, and napkins.
Adding colorful lighting effects throughout the venue and serving colorful foods such as a rainbowtiered cake served with rainbow ice cream adds a burst of color to any event. Of course, adding colorful backdrops with vibrant florals enhances the overall theme.
Beach or nautical-themed weddings embrace the love of the outdoors. Using the Great Lakes as an inspiration, add nautical elements coupled with cool shades of blues, sand, stones, driftwood, and natural seashells.
Vintage weddings with classic designs create romantic nostalgia as it celebrates a bygone era. So, whether the theme is a throwback to the 1920s with Great Gatsby
© Michael O'Reilly_Adobestyle influences like glitzy headbands, gilded centerpieces, or vases adorned with strings of pearls atop a lace-covered table popularized by the styles of the 1950s, having a vintage wedding can add a touch of timeless classic ambiance.
Moreover, those who like a little whimsy may consider decorating around a more flamboyant era like the ’60s and ’70s.
Lights, camera, action! A moviethemed wedding might be the ideal wedding type for couples who are big movie buffs. This theme is sure to be one event that guests will remember for years to come.
Perhaps, it is a wedding influenced by the television drama series Bridgerton featuring Victorian fashions and elaborate table spreads, or a fairytale Disney-inspired wedding; this wedding style is one for the memory books.
Maybe there is not a specific movie but rather a theme around the movie industry in general. Adding recognizable décor is sure to be a big hit.
For general movie cinema themes, adding simple movie reels, photographs of movie billboards as table toppers, or even a movie clipboard can bring loads of Hollywood glamor to your event. Place a bag of popcorn, and a bowl of sugary candy treats on the table to help get guests ready for the main attraction.
Boho chic, also known as Bohemian Chic, has been a wedding trend for the past few years. This theme is perfect for couples who enjoy a traditional style but want a carefree more organic feel.
Add boho style to your event by decorating with muted colors, sprinkle the surroundings with Pampas Grass, and soften the area with wildflowers and lace.
Rustic theme weddings are perfect for couples who like country influence in their decor. The rustic themes can incorporate vintage styles along with natural elements.
Many couples base their wedding theme on a color scheme. However, color style can go well beyond the room decoration. By requesting that guests wear specific colors, they become part of the theme.
The music industry can also act as a theme for a wedding. Adding old records, having music trivia games for guests to play, and having the DJ join in on the fun adds to the excitement.
Perhaps adding a little Motown nostalgia is a way to be inspired. Decorate the space with elements such as table tents listing Motown artists and songs or have fun facts index cards at each place-setting
used as time-fillers to entertain guests.
Of course, a traditional classic wedding theme is always a popular option. Add romantic décor and timeless accents to polish this look.
This contemporary style wedding offers warm colors surrounded by industrial elements usually softened by adding floral pieces and other natural pieces. A warehouse is a perfect backdrop for this theme.
A carnival theme brings guests to their happy place. Simply incorporating features, such as vintage signs, games, and other carnival attractions that add a bit of family-friendly fun to the event can achieve the goal. There can be different food and activity stations set up that features food, games, and entertainment. A few ways to add a carnival styling to the event include adding a hotdog stand, ice cream cart, and caricature artist.
Couples can also set up various games for guests to play like ring toss, giant Jenga, and wedding bingo. All of this, coupled with balloons, carnival-inspired directional and table signs, and treats like watermelon slices on a stick, funnel cakes, and cotton candy, makes for a wedding to remember.
Steampunk blends eye-catching science-influenced industrial pieces with Victorian influence, often with a gothic appeal. Adding timepieces, internal clock parts, navigation tools, or old vintage keys helps design steampunk style.
Sometimes less is more. Couples who embrace this style make the smallest details stand out. Having a neutral or monochromatic color scheme coupled with minimal accessories can help achieve this style.
Every day more emphasis is made on improving our planet.
Having an eco-friendly wedding encourages new habits that everyone in attendance can participate in.
One way of achieving this goal is by using sustainable products during the event, including recycled, upcycled, or low-impact products. Additionally, using potted plants in the décor rather than cut flowers allows for plants to be passed along to guests to enjoy days, if not years, after the wedding.
Animals are an important part of our lives. Having an animalthemed wedding can help make your wedding day a joy for everyone at your event. Consider creating a memorable moment such as having the bride be escorted down the aisle by her favorite pooch or even releasing doves during the wedding ceremony.
Whatever the theme or style, the key is to let it reflect the couple's vision.
Your big wedding day is supposed to be a special day all about you and your partner. So naturally, you want to feel slim and gorgeous! The problem is that Covid-19 came and pushed your wedding date off. It may have also derailed your exercise regimen.
Do not feel bad. Most of us gained a few pounds in 2020. The American Psychological Association reported that 42% of Americans gained an average of 29 pounds during the pandemic shut down. So, you are not alone.
However, now that your wedding date is getting closer, you may feel desperate to lose those extra pounds. Weight loss can be challenging, but you can shed the excess weight and keep it off for good.
First thing, assess your goal. If your wedding date is a week away and you are trying to start a weight loss plan now, that is not realistic. Health experts recommend losing 1-2 pounds a week. So, if you have 3-months before your wedding day, you can lose 12 to 24 pounds.
Another thing about being realistic is to know yourself. If you know it's hard for you to stick to something, don't aim to lose the 24-pounds at one time. On the other hand, if you know you are truly committed and are disci-
plined to weight loss, then go ahead and set more aggressive goals. Just remember, when you know yourself and challenges, you can have fun and be successful.
We all love the carbs. While carbs are good for building muscle, which will help you lose weight, it is wise to pick the correct carbs. Vegetables and fruits are good carbs. With every meal, add vegetables and a piece of fruit. Skip the rice, pasta, and bread.
Make food choices that you will enjoy and will want to eat. You do not need to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight. Adding more veggies and fruits helps give you that full feeling without the guilt.
If you choose to count calories, don't obsess over it. Of course, you want the weight off for your wedding day, but also you want to be a happy bride in the process.
This point seems obvious. A huge mistake many people make before their special day is to jump on the treadmill wishing to melt away inches super-fast.
Unfortunately, this is not the solution. Running on the treadmill for an hour a day will not burn away many calories on your
weight loss journey. There is more to weight loss than that.
In a recent interview, Tony Reynolds, a 30-year professional fitness trainer, stated, "Weight loss occurs by doing the opposite of what you did to gain it. Did you gain weight by running, lunging, and jumping? No, you gained it by eating too much. You have to modify your eating and eat less."
He agreed that reducing carbohydrate consumption is good, but more importantly, the key is portion size management.
So, what is his recommendation? Reynold continued, "If you usually eat from a 12-inch plate, switch it to a 10-inch plate, then to an 8-inch, then a 6-inch. That is weight loss."
Even if you don't change what you eat by simply reducing the amount of food and calories consumed while also getting some form of daily exercise, you will lose weight, according to Reynolds.
Additionally, it is not necessary to spend hours at the gym every day.
"Most people who are at the gym are just at the gym. The question is, are you utilizing your time effectively when you are at the gym?" asked Reynolds.

Courtesy of Family FeatureHe shared that just doing a daily 30-minute circuit routine will do the trick. Doing 60-seconds of non-stop repetitive movement with 15-second breaks between each set of exercises will give you an effective calorie-burning workout.
Taking a cue from popular fitness centers with circuit training stations, design a routine with 8 to 10 different exercise routines that you will do for 60 seconds each. You can do these exercises at home or go to a fitness-center circuit training room that has pre-designed workout plans to follow.
Your wedding day will be here before you know it. Finally, you can achieve the weight loss you are looking to reach. Just make a plan and work it while having fun on the journey! Before you know it, you will dance the night away on your wedding day!

You
did it! You got engaged. Now what? Here are suggestions of what next steps to take to get ready for the big day.
Before rushing to your local retailer to make your first purchase, take a moment to collect your thoughts and make a plan. Your wedding deserves careful planning and execution.
It makes no difference if you are getting married in a cathedral or having an at-home ceremony; it’s your day. So, make sure it reflects what is important to you and your partner.
After announcing your engagement to your family and close friends, the next step is to set up a realistic budget. It’s a good idea to create a budget early to make sure you can afford all of the items and services on your must-have list.
First, let’s look at what funds are available. Begin by determining what savings are being set aside for the wedding. Secondly, identify what part of your monthly income will be applied towards the wedding expenses. Lastly, account for monetary gifts that parents or family will contribute towards the wedding.
Once you know what resources are available, you can better determine if additional funds are needed. But most importantly, know your limits.
Have a clear vision of your wedding. For example, do you want to have a formal event, or is a casual gathering more aligned with your personality?
Don’t worry if your vision is a bit vague right now. That is understandable. What’s important is to identify your expectations to lay the groundwork for a successful event.
Take the time to explore and use your imagination. For example, do you want a small intimate wedding or a wedding reception that is sure to be the talk of the town? On the other hand, maybe you, your significant other, and a group of friends instead jump on a plane for a destination wedding. Being clear about your wedding wishes will help wedding vendors be more in tune with your vision.
Next, you need to decide if you will coordinate your wedding yourself or hire a wedding planner. If you determine that it is best to hire a wedding professional, you will need to budget for their services. A benefit of using a professional wedding planner is that they can significantly reduce the hustle and bustle involved in coordinating a wedding.
Now, let’s take a moment to look at the different types of wedding
planners. Full-service wedding planners plan your entire wedding from start to finish. This type of wedding planner is best for brides who don’t want to be bothered with planning details. However, if you do not need a full-service provider, you may elect to use a day-of coordinator instead.
A day-of coordinator usually offers services closer to the wedding day. This professional helps coordinate all of the activities for the wedding day, including set-up, breakdown, and other services leading up to the wedding day.
The last type of coordinator is a venue coordinator. This person is generally part of the personnel at the venue site. This coordinator will help with the activities that will take place at the venue.
In each case, your wedding planner, day-of coordinator, or venue coordinator can help lessen the stress associated with wedding planning. Additionally, they can help identify and manage unexpected expenses. Finally, because wedding planners are generally familiar with common mistakes first-time brides make, these pros can help eliminate the frustration that many unprepared brides might otherwise face.
Time and Place Next on the list is to decide on a wedding date. It is understandable that when you
first become engaged, you may not have an exact date selected. However, it is a good idea to pick a tentative date (or date range) to communicate more effectively with wedding vendors regarding your upcoming wedding.
Identify where you would like your wedding ceremony and reception to be held. Once you determine the location, secure a booking date. If the venue does not provide catering, prepare to book the services of a caterer.
It is wise to retain the officiant who will perform the ceremony around the same time that the wedding ceremony site is reserved. Keep in mind some officiants may require you and your fiancé to go through couple’s counseling weeks or months before the ceremony date.
At this time, you may want to contact your photographer, videographer, florist, and other vendors, such as wedding DJs and entertainers, to ensure that they put your wedding on their calendar.
Be aware that many wedding vendors require a down-payment to retain their services, so make sure you can afford it before
agreeing to hire them.
Most importantly, make sure that you do some due diligence. Ask questions to make sure that you get quality services. This is not the time for you to be caught off guard.
It’s time for fun. Next on the list is to visit bridal shops. You may want to complete this task six to twelve months out from your wedding date to ensure that the perfect dress is available in time for your wedding date.
Let’s not forget about the groom. Now is a perfect time to place orders for those fashion accessories that coordinate with the bridal party.
If you haven’t purchased your wedding rings, this is the time to complete that task. Many brides visit jewelers six to nine months out from their wedding day.
Four to six months before the wedding, you should begin to mail wedding engagement save-the-date announcements. However, it would be best if you planned to mail out the formal wedding invitations approximately two months before the wedding date.
During this time, begin to invite friends and family to be members of your wedding party. Once your wedding party is complete, select the dresses and tuxedos for the bridesmaids and groomsmen.
Let’s talk rentals. Will you need to rent high-end china, tables, arches, throne chairs, or other decorative pieces? If so, you want to book these items well in advance.
Approximately six months out from your wedding is the time that you should plan to book rental equipment. Don’t wait until the last minute. You don’t want to find out later that the items you need are already reserved for someone else.
Please don’t make the mistake of overlooking transportation. If renting a vehicle is on your to-do list, make sure to reserve it in advance to increase your chances of getting the make, model, and color that you want.
Of course, don’t forget about the wedding registry. Gift registries not only encourage guests to purchase the gifts that you really want, but it also helps reduce the chance of receiving duplicate gifts.
As your wedding date nears, other important details will need to be completed on time. Use the handy wedding checklist located in this magazine to help with your wedding planning efforts. You can also visit detroitweddingday.com to access other helpful wedding planning tools.
wedding is to have maximum space so that the guests can still practice social distancing.
Outdoor weddings come with a wide variety of options, so don't stress. You can always look for a terrace, big enough balcony, gardens, and rooftops to make your big day exciting and memorable.
The best and most exciting venue has to be a garden. Let nature be your decor. The subtle breeze blowing on your face, a breath-taking view, the music from the chirping of birds, and blossoming flowers, will simply mesmerize everyone.
old traditions and wedding trends have been refashioned to incorporate the new-normal in our lives. Wedding trends adapted by the couples in 2020 have set the mood for 2021. Many weddings are scaled-down in size, but it is not any less celebratory. As more couples are venturing towards simple wedding ceremonies, lavish and over-the-top weddings will be seen less this year.
The pandemic has taught us to appreciate what we have. So the va-va voom or fairy-tale wedding you had in mind won't be making a grand appearance this year. Instead, you might want to curate your guest list with a bit of care and embrace the concept of micro-weddings. Keep your guest list to 30 people or less.

We spend copious amounts of time finding the perfect man, the perfect dress, even the perfect venue- but when it comes to the standard symbolism of marriage, we all know it remains on the fourth finger of your left hand.
The ancient Egyptians correlated the shape of a ring- a circle with no end- as an eternally powerful symbol. Though this piece of jewelry has remained a talisman of love, it has definitely evolved since ancient times.
The custom of both partners wearing wedding bands didn’t catch on in America until the beginning of World War II. The plain gold wedding band was the standard
preferred style for most during this time, and though quite simpletheir symbolism was enormous. This is still the preferred style for most men and some women today.
4ever2 Jewelstone Bands combine a unique symbol of love with a historically modern twist. Featuring two interlocking bands- one representing you, and one representing your partner- each carefully crafted so they are able to roll over each other while they’re being worn.
Offered in various metal combinations, 4ever2 bands combine the strength of two rings, making them extremely durable. They do not feature any exposed gemstones or diamonds that could lead to loss or damage.
On the inside of each band, you will find a proprietary gemstone
comprised of Rose Quartz- the original stone of love. The Jewelstone will always be touching your skin, emitting gentle vibrations of loving energy.
Carefully crafted in the United States, 4ever2 bands combine strength, durability, simplicity, elegance, and cost efficiency- reinventing the wedding band in a way that visually illustrates your love story.

We’ve learned a lot during this pandemic; a time that we shall (and hopefully) never see again, but one thing that didn't change was LOVE. Couples still found ways, and very creative ones, to celebrate their union, whether that meant living room ceremonies, micro-weddings, or rescheduled dates, LOVE still prevailed.
Not only did couples have to endure through the pandemic, but those who have careers in the wedding industry had to pivot and find new ways to stay relevant and stay in business. From virtual photo booths to outdoor, intimate bridal showers and weddings, to masked, indoor events, all wedding professionals had to shift, and in some cases, create new ways to serve their ideal clients. Many of these shifts have become standard services for the future.
With the pandemic coming to an end and Michigan restrictions being lifted, the following wedding “trends” that surfaced during the shutdown are here (hopefully) to stay for years to come:
Many clients realized that the 300+ individuals they wanted to invite either wasn’t coming or weren’t interested in attending during the pandemic much to the couple’s dismay; however, what they soon learned was how much more money they had leftover in their budget.
Although this became popular because of space limitations and social distancing mandates, isn’t this a great option for those who are unable to travel or attend? And consider your older family members who may be confined to assisted living facilities. Wouldn’t they love to be tuned in for the nuptials?
Less guests = more money to allocate to other line items on the budget, i.e. decor and floral. Plus, you can be extra creative at your chosen venue to do some amazing, one-of-a-kind decor; just make sure you choose a licensed, reputable professional to bring your vision to life.
Outdoor Venues:
Yes, even with the unpredictability of Michigan weather, some ideal outdoor locations can be transformed to accommodate your dream wedding. Many locations gained some notoriety because no one had paid any attention to it, so I hope more of these will be utilized for the Big Day, and I’m sure those tent companies won’t mind the extra business either.
Yes, buffet dinners are cheaper but they’re also a laborious effort for your wedding guests. Again, because of Covid-19 restrictions, buffet set-ups were null and void, so let’s budget (remember, less guests = more money in the budget) for family-style or plated dinners.
It’s a shame to admit, but were we really washing and sanitizing our hands as much as we do now?
Sanitizing stations replaced candy tables to ensure guests were safe and everyone was being precautious. I hope this habit never ends!
Fridays and Saturdays aren’t the only days to get married. Couples got married on Mondays, Wednesdays, etc...which are generally less expensive than weekend weddings. When you plan enough in advance and let your family and friends know, they’ll be able to take off work so they can share in your nuptials, if that’s your concern. Consider a non-traditional wedding day of the week.
We can be thankful to the pandemic for some things that may be around for some time. We know love abounds all things and it’s exciting to know we’re going to be celebrating love again in ways we never anticipated. I’m ready for the celebrations, are you?

Even with careful planning, couples cannot anticipate everything that might go wrong when planning a wedding. For this reason, taking precautions to create an enjoyable wedding day experience can help avoid unexpected expenses. Here are some precautions to consider to bring peace of mind when planning a wedding.
Rihanna said it best in a line in her hit song Umbrella, "In anticipation for precipitation, stack chips for the rainy day." Having an alternate plan is most important if the festivities include being outside. Don't let a sudden rain burst damper the event. Plan for it!
Having an inclement weather plan can help gain some control over the uncontrollable. Discuss a backup plan with the wedding coordinator and venue managers in case of poor weather conditions. Also, make sure that someone has an umbrella available if needed.
Many couples use gift boxes during their reception. It is customary for guests to deposit heart-warming congratulatory cards filled with valuable gifts into card boxes and gift tables. Don't be too relaxed and neglect to have a trusted designated
person keep an eye out for these gifted treasures. Although no one would ever expect guests with sticky-fingers, taking steps to assure that everything remains where it ought to be is not a bad idea.
In addition to having an assigned person be an overseer, having a point person to help direct guests and answer general questions helps keep things flowing. In many cases, this person may be the venue or wedding coordinator.
These days, there is much discussion about COVID safety protocols. It is a good idea to ask the venue representative what safety guidelines the facility uses. With the rise of the new COVID variants in some local areas, discussing this is being proactive. For example, is the venue requesting guests to maintain social distancing? Are unvaccinated guests asked to mask up?
Asking these questions allow couples to make arrangements such as supplying face masks for attendees or informing guests in advance about mask usage recommendations.
Additionally, be prepared to have hand sanitation stations set up. It is not necessary to go
overboard by getting a floorstand hand sanitizer dispenser. Having a simple tray decorated with cleverly arranged bottles of hand sanitizer and napkins will do the trick.
Those pesky insects don't have to ruin an outdoor event. Try dispersing natural bug repellents to help drive away these uninvited guests. Add a few drops of aromatic oils such as lemon, peppermint oil, lavender, and of course, citronella oils and candles to discourage bugs. Also, distribute scatterings of eucalyptus sprigs, herbs such as rosemary, clove, and thyme, as well as clove spices as an incent repellent. If a more aggressive method is preferred, there is always the option of hiring an exterminator to spray the area days before the event.
Taking extra steps to help attendees feel more comfortable can help ward off complaints from guests. During warmer months, consider passing out hand-fans for guests to use. It's a way to help guests quickly cool down during those sudden hot flash moments. Additionally, these fans can be a keepsake if inscribed with your name, wedding date, and photographs.
For those outdoor weddings during the cool autumn months, keep guests warm by using outdoor heaters making sure to stay clear from overhanging tree branches or awnings.
In a similar vein, make sure to have warm and cold beverages readily available for guests. There is nothing worse than being thirsty while waiting for the wedding reception dinner to be served.
Communication is Key Sometimes, the simple things make all the difference. When planning a wedding, make sure to inform guests of the details. Of course, the event's details are provided in the invitation but also include other important information.
For example, if the wedding takes place on the golf course lawn and not in the ballroom, it would be nice to inform guests of this fact. Knowing this bit of information will permit guests to plan to wear shoes that can handle soft grounds surfaces without continuously having their stilettos sink
into the grass.
Take the guesswork out of the equation by having good signage at the event. Taking these small steps helps guests navigate around the venue. Good signage will most assuredly be appreciated if the wedding takes place in a larger facility.
Sometimes the unimaginable happens. The venue unexpectedly closes without notice. The wedding dress is damaged beyond repair days before the wedding. The wedding ring slips out of the best man's pocket and falls into the street curb drain.
Although these may be a bit dramatic, sometimes the unimaginable happens, resulting in incurring unexpected expenses. One way to help lessen these losses is by investing in wedding insurance. Wedding insurance helps couples protect their investment from liabilities such as property damage, injuries, and more.
During a recent interview with
James Ralph of James Ralph Agency Inc., he shared that some wedding insurance carriers cover losses due to damages resulting from photographers, venues, jewelry, loss of deposits, and even destination wedding expenses. Spending a few minutes discussing individual needs with a licensed insurance agent can be a wise investment.
To hear the interview regarding this subject, visit https://detroitweddingday.com/have-no-fearwedding-insurance-is-here.
In the Know Keep the lines of communication open with wedding vendors. For instance, keeping the venue coordinator in the loop by notifying her that the DJ will need to access electrical outlets on both sides of the room to accommodate audio and uplighting is imperative.
As the old adage goes, an ounce of prevention (or precaution) is worth a pound of cure. Take steps today to ensure that your plans for tomorrow are not derailed.
Now that your wedding day is approaching and excitement is building, you might be thinking about what wedding favors to give to your guests. It is customary for couples to give wedding favors to thank guests for participating in the wedding day experience. It also can provide guests with a little something to remember the day.
As a result of the pandemic, many couples have scaled down their wedding by having fewer guests. Having fewer guests in attendance offers you the opportunity to splurge a little on wedding favors for your guests.
Over the past several years, couples in the Metro Detroit area spent in the range of $232 to $240 on wedding favor gifts. Obviously, due to reduced guest counts resulting from Covid-19, local couples only spent around $135 on wedding favors.
As things continue to get back to some sense of normalcy, many couples will inevitably increase their guest count and spend more, but for now, if you are looking for wedding favors that will impress your guests, here are a few ideas. Items displayed can be found on detroitweddingday.com/shop.

Over the past year, online shopping has become the norm for all kinds of purchases, from groceries and household essentials to gifts and even bridal ware.
Shopping for clothes and other items from the comfort of your home has multiple advantages, including the convenience to shop on your own schedule and the ability to do more thorough research to get the best prices be-
fore you buy. However, if you’re not used to doing it, shopping online for items you typically purchase at brick and mortar stores can be daunting.
To make your online shopping experiences more efficient and successful, consider these tips from Kellie Brown, fashion influencer and author of the “And I Get Dressed” blog.
If you have your eye on a particular item, shop around on mul-
tiple sites for it. Prices can vary from one website to another, and you could be missing out on big savings by not doing your research. When you’re comparing items, be sure to pay attention to details. Verify model or style numbers, colors and other specifics to ensure you’re comparing apples to apples.
Ultimately, you may find the same item with a slight difference that you’re willing to accept for a better price.
Doing research online may also
help you locate discount codes that can help bring down the price if you buy from a specific online retailer.
Clothing is one category that shoppers either love or hate to buy online. Brown sees one distinct advantage: skipping the fitting room.
“Shopping for clothes online can seem daunting, but one of the biggest perks is being able to avoid the dreaded dressing room experience,” Brown said.
Buying online lets you ditch the fitting room in favor of the comfort of your own home, where you can take time to consider your new garments in private.
Brown cautions that the first rule of shopping for clothes online is recognizing sizing isn’t always universal. If you know your measurements, you can compare those with the listed size chart.
Use the Right Credit Card Joining a store’s loyalty program can be advantageous if you are a frequent shopper at a specific brand or retailer. Also, it’s important to realize not all credit cards are the same, and some offer rewards for online shopping, including cash back.
“The most versatile option is a card that adapts with your spending, such as the Bank of America® Cash Rewards.
Make sure you know the return policy of the retailer you’re shopping with to ensure your return or exchange will be accepted, if necessary.
Many stores won’t accept open packages or clothing with tags removed, so be sure you know the guidelines before tearing into your packages when they arrive.
You should also check whether you can return items to a local store, if there’s one available, or if you’ll have to ship a return, and find out who is responsible for return shipping costs.
It’s also important to be conscious of timing since most retailers have specific rules about how long you have to return an item. Some use the order date as the starting point while others use the delivery date.
Stay Safe Online Online shopping offers plenty of benefits but being cautious with your credit card information and banking information can help you avoid certain risks. Consider these tips from Better Money Habits, Bank of America’s free financial education platform.
Use Powerful Passwords: Avoid the temptation to set a password you can remember easily and instead use something a little more complex that would be hard for others to hack. Use a distinct password for each online account so you don’t make multiple accounts vulnerable if
your personal information does get stolen. Also change your passwords periodically for added security.
Look for the Lock: If you're shopping online, be sure the address begins with https. The “S” tells you the site is secure, and don't forget to look for the little lock icon in the browser before you enter any payment information.
Secure Your Networks: Whether using your home WiFi, a mobile device, or a public computer, you need to take steps to secure your info. Start by password protecting your home's network. When you log in to any financial account while away from home, don't do so on an open network. If you're using a shared computer, be sure to clear all your personal information when you log out.
Set up notifications: One easy way to keep an eye on your credit card information is to sign up for mobile or email alerts with your bank. This way, each time your card is used, you receive a notification.

Due to COVID19, the year 2020 took a toll on the wedding industry and couples alike. As a result of the pandemic, many couples postponed their wedding plans for future dates.
According to one national study, 20% of weddings scheduled for 2021 rescheduled the event for next year.
For those couples who forged ahead with their wedding plans, many of them ended up saving significant amounts of money on their wedding ceremony and reception due to having smaller guest counts.
Couples planning their wedding for the first time may have little knowledge of the expenses associated with wedding planning. Here are the current spending trends in the Detroit Metro Area for the year ending in 2020.
Becoming familiar with trending spending habits can help soonto-be couples make a plan and reduce wedding planning anxiety.
One way for couples to prepare themselves is to review the reported average wedding costs by recently married local couples. The Wedding Report, a research company that compiles wedding statistics, reports that 12,040 couples married in the Metro Detroit
area in 2020. This figure is down by 42% compared to the prior year. Of those who got married, these couples spent an average of $23,726 on wedding expenses with median expenses of $14,986.
Understandably, 2020 expenses were generally lower than usual. However, researchers anticipate a rebound in growth in both 2021 and 2022. The estimates report that by the end of 2021, nearly 18,350 couples will marry in Metro Detroit.
So, what should local couples expect to spend on their wedding? Here are the survey results from couples who married in Southeast Michigan in 2020. Listed are both the spending trend averages and medians.
• Lapeer: $22,647 average (median spend $14,244)
• Livingston: $25,291 average (median spend $16,210)
• Macomb: $23,369 (median spend $14,719)
• Oakland: $25,948 (median spend $16,586)
• St. Clair: $21,613 average (median spend $13,993)
• Washtenaw: $24,450 (median spend $15,517)
• Wayne: $18,635 (median spend $11,468)
Now that we have identified the general expense totals, let’s take a deeper dive to look at the average amounts spent by category.
A little bling, the perfect dress, and a suit help couples make a fashion statement of their own. Couples spent an average of $1192 on wedding dresses and $207 on tuxedos or suits.
On average, an additional $216 was spent on accessories for the wedding dress, followed by an extra $102 on accessories for the tuxedo or suit.
Beauty
When budgeting, don’t forget to factor in these expenses, including hair service, manicures, pedicures, and make-up. In 2020, couples spent an average of $174 on these services.
Entertainment: Make any wedding memorable by adding excitement and entertainment. When using DJs or MCs, the couple spent an average of $702 on this service.
Other couples who used live entertainment spent around $594 for musicians, soloists, or ensembles. For those who hired a live band, they shelled out an average of $1640 for this attraction.
A well-placed floral arrangement can transform a venue and ceremony location. Adding a beautiful bouquet and a stately boutonniere can change an outfit from attractive to gorgeous.
For couples who purchased bou-
quets, boutonnieres, corsages, venue floral decorations, flowers, and centerpieces, they reported spending a combined $1477 in 2020. This was $375 less than what was spent in 2019.
Many couples show appreciation by giving wedding favors and thank you gifts to guests, parents, and wedding party members. Couples spent approximately $571 on gifts for others. Also included in these expenses are the tips given to others for services rendered.
Stationery
Item expenses such as invitations, ceremony programs, engagement announcements, reception menus, save-the-date cards, place cards, guest booklet, thank-you cards, and postage all come under the stationary category.
In 2020, couples spent an average of $649 on these expenses.
Jewelry:
Couples should budget for everything from the engagement ring and wedding bands to that stunning earring and necklace set.
In general, the couple who got married in Metro Detroit spent an average of $3396 on the engagement rings, followed by a combined $1230 on wedding rings/bands. Another $529 was spent on other jewelry accessory pieces.
Setting aside money to hire a professional photographer and videographer to capture this milestone is money well spent. Items and services included in this category are digital photographs, photo CD/DVD, engagement photo sessions, prints, wedding photo album books, wedding photographer, and videographer. When all of the services were used collectively, couples spent on average $3,763 in 2020.
Couples who wanted the excite-
ment of having a photo booth at their event added on average $355 to the budget last year.
Wedding planners and consultants can help make sure that the couple's wedding turns out as expected.
Services provided by these professionals range from full-service wedding planners to a-lacarte. Couples paid services ranging an average of $689 to $2315.
On average, couples spent about 14% less on these services compared to past reported expenses.
One of the largest expenses for a wedding falls under this category. Of course, every wedding is unique. Each wedding expense will vary. Couples in the Metro Detroit area spent on average $10,029 on the venue, including food and bar service, venue
location, venue accessories, venue rentals, and dessert.
Additional expenses not included in this total are ceremony officiator fees, rehearsal dinner expenses, limo and other transportation rentals, and a hotel room for use after the reception. These add $1722 to the bottom line.
Spending Distribution Reports show that approximately 31% of Metro Detroit area couples spent $20,000 or more for their wedding.
Based on current trends, Metro Detroit couples are on average engaged for 18.2 months. The trending top three months to get engaged are December 14.2%, February 9.4% and March 8.3%.

Metro Detroit is a great place to get married. With so many beautiful waterfronts, changing seasons, and cultural attractions, any time is a good time for a wedding.
So, when are most couples in the area getting married?
Research revealed a trend that approximately 86% of the weddings in Metro Detroit were between May through October. Here is a monthly breakdown of when the weddings occurred based on a recent survey. Additionally, a list of the area's average weather temperatures and projected sunset times have been included.
Using these resources can help with wedding planning as well as scheduling beautiful sunset photo sessions.
Although there is no way to know what future weather conditions will be, this information can hopefully help build a little more confidence.
