“Do Not Be Afraid - I bring you GOOD NEWS of GREAT JOY that will be for ALL PEOPLE. ”
Luke 2:10
When the angel appeared to the shepherds on that holy night of Jesus’ birth, they were “terribly frightened. ” I get it - that was very
unusual to say the least! One of the Bible translations says that as
the angel stood by them, “the glory of the Lord flashed and shone all about them. ” That was quite a heavenly announcement and those
shepherds were going to play a significant part in delivering the “Good News” . Luke 2:17-18 tells us that after they found Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus, the shepherds then “made known what had been told them concerning the Child, and all who heard it were astounded and marveled at what the shepherds told them ” Think about it - those sheep keepers were possibly the first “missionaries” chosen to go and share the Good News of the Savior’s birth! Those humble
shepherds could have missed out on that “heavenly assignment” if they had remained in fear, but they heeded the angel’s words of comfort“Do not be afraid, I bring you Good News of Great JOY!”
Those words of comfort are for us today as well. It’s interesting to know that “Do not fear” is repeated in the Bible more times than any other command - because our God knew there would be many frightening situations in our lives But, our precious Heavenly Father made a way for us through His Son Jesus, and we much never lose sight of what amazingly Good News the Gospel is! It is full of great joy! And we can share that good news because “God is with us!”
So, be of good cheer, my brothers and sisters - Jesus is truly our “Wonderful counselor, our Might God, our Everlasting Father, and our Prince of Peace!” Is. 9:6 Through Jesus the Promised Messiah, we have been given the greatest gift of all - The Hope of Eternal
Life! Glory to God in the Highest! Our God Reigns Forever!
Have a blessed and glorious Christmas!
