Cherries are super delicious this time of year. This delicious recipe is by Anna Jones.
Ingredients to serve 4
• 400g fresh or frozen cherries
• 3 tablespoons maple syrup
• 2 tablespoons smooth peanut butter
• 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
• a big pinch of flaky sea salt
• 8 scoops vanilla ice cream or frozen yoghurt, about 1 x 400ml tub (vegan if needed)
Method
Stone and halve cherries and set aside. If you using frozen cherries, put them into a small saucepan with 1 tbsp maple syrup and cook on a medium low heat until they are warm and soft, still with a little liquid.
In a bowl, whisk together the peanut butter, 2 tbsp maple syrup (or 3 tbsp if using fresh cherries), the cocoa powder and a big pinch of flaky sea salt. Add a little water if your peanut butter is thick.
Get yourself 4 glasses or bowls, scoop some cherries into the bottom of each glass, then add a scoop of ice cream, the peanut chocolate sauce, more cherries, another scoop of ice cream and the rest of the cherries and chocolate sauce. Enjoy!

Phlox is a familiar plant in many gardens. It is easy to grow, hardy, almost entirely pest free and makes a great mound of colour looking good mixed in with other cottage garden plants. The phlox in Crescent Garden is white rather than one of the bright colours most often associated with the plant, but it still stands out clearly in the flower bed near the railings in front of the fountain. The name, phlox, comes from the Greek word meaning flame as so many of the genus are brightly coloured.
The full botanical name of this particular species, usually known as garden phlox, is Phlox paniculata in the family Polemoniaceae. It is native to large swathes of the east coast of USA
and extending into Canada. It blooms there, as it does in our gardens, from June to September, enjoying plenty of sunshine and a damp, but not waterlogged soil. This summer it is fortunate that the phlox in Crescent Garden is planted near the automatic watering system, put in some years ago, mainly to benefit the roses growing alongside the railings. Each flower has 5 petals and 5 stamens with a 3 branched stigma emerging above the stamens in the centre of the flower. The flowers are relatively small, but make a great show by being grouped together in a panicle; hence the specific name. The petals are fused together at their bases to form a tube, with nectar at the bottom of it, hence butterflies are one of the main pollinators as they have a long tube like tongue called a proboscis which can reach the nectar at the bottom of the tube, while their bodies brush against the stamens to pick up pollen to be carried to other plants. Bees and other pollinators are also attracted to phlox. Phlox plants were introduced into Britain from Virginia in the 1730s. By 1745. It was well established and written about by plantsman, John Bartram.
So, an attractive and easy plant to grow, so try some in your own garden if you don’t already have some. Or come and admire it in Crescent Garden.

Ideal for front gardens as statement pieces, or for smaller rear gardens where you want the sound of water without the footprint that a pond requires. Ideal for people wanting to enjoy it as a fishpond, and/or to use it as a recreation pond if the space allows, where your family sit and relax in the summer, but still enjoy the visual of a beautiful natural looking pond all year round. This is the oppos swimming pool which remains a covered over rectangle for most of the year with our English weather! Waterfalls, streams and decorative fountainscape elements can be incorporated into the pond to suit your s ultimate outdoor living lifestyle.
I can also create and incorporate Rainwater Harvesting systems to use with any of the water features mentioned. All ponds and water features will periodically lose water due to evaporation, splash and wind. Manual top up is the simplest solution but requires regular checking for levels. Creating an underground water reservoir from collected rainwater for your feature to draw upon is the most environmentally friendly way

Do you have important legal documents in place to protect your interests and make life easier for you and your family, whatever the future brings?
If you have received a diagnosis of dementia, or are concerned about becoming ill and unable to cope with paying your bills, wouldn’t it be helpful for a family member to be able to step in and deal with your finances? If your family member needed to make decisions for you, instead of just acting on your instructions, they would need your formal written authority to do this.
Formal authority can be given by creating a Lasting Power of Attorney. This document will allow your family member to take over managing your money, either temporarily or long term.
You can also create a Lasting Power of Attorney which allows your family member to make decisions for you about medical treatment, if you are unable for any reason to make your own decisions. This is not the same as an Advance Decision, which is a document which sets out your decision to refuse medical treatment in the future, under specific conditions.
If you are caring for an elderly relative, or are likely to be doing so in the future, a Lasting Power of Attorney will mean that you can provide the support your relative needs and access services on their behalf, without the difficulties, stress and resistance you would otherwise encounter.
Having a Will gives you peace of mind that your money, property and personal possessions will be going to the people you have chosen to benefit. An out of date Will can cause problems within the family or mean that a chosen beneficiary receives nothing.
If you have any unanswered questions about Wills or Lasting Powers of Attorney, Christine will be pleased to help, so do please get in touch for a free, no obligation, chat.

opportunities within care homes and private homes for those unable to attend church services to practise their faith and receive communion. Anna Chaplains also walk alongside those who may not profess a faith providing a safe space to ask difficult questions that can surface when facing later life.
We celebrate people of all ages. Within our church families - Holy Rood and St Edmund’smany have served the community in many ways over many years, often voluntarily. The church simply would not function without them.
Medical advances and improved standards of living mean we are living longer. We can celebrate that we are (statistically) likely to live longer than our ancestors. Something we cannot guarantee of course but it’s good to live longer …right?
Well, yes … and no ...
An ageing society presents a myriad of challenges for individuals, families and the services supporting society. Physical, psychological and societal challenges for older people are met (in part) by the NHS and other social care services. These challenges can leave us feeling we have nothing left to give and without meaning and purpose in our lives. So how do we find hope, meaning and purpose in later life when society places emphasis on career and success? What if you’ve got more to offer - is life simply a matter of bringing in the bacon, raising a family and then living a life of vacation, vacation, vacation?
I believe hope, meaning and purpose can be found, that our stories play out into our later years.
The church offers support to older people in a number of ways. One is Anna Chaplaincy. Anna Chaplains alongside clergy provide
