THORNBURG (Brian) is so excited to return to a role that means so much to him! Adrian appeared as Brian (THE INVISIBLE BOY world premiere), as well as other Children’s Theatre of Charlotte productions including SHREK THE MUSICAL, TROPICAL SECRETS: HOLOCAUST REFUGEES IN CUBA, and PETE THE CAT. After his time in Charlotte, Adrian moved to Chicago where he has appeared in FIRST DATE THE MUSICAL, NEXT TO NORMAL, and DRIVING MISS DAISY. He is excited to return to THE INVISIBLE BOY both to reconnect with who he was back then and get in touch with how much he has changed. He hopes this show that has been such a positive force in his life and career will have a similar effect on new audiences.
RYAN
VU (he/him; Justin) is so ecstatic to join the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s production of THE INVISIBLE BOY! He is a Vietnamese-American actor based in Chicago who recently graduated from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting. Theatre credits include: Sebastian (U/S) in TWELFTH NIGHT (Oak Park Festival Theatre), George Gibbs in OUR TOWN (Chicago College of Performing Arts), Paris (U/S) in ROMEO AND JULIET (Oak Park Festival Theatre), Ernst in SPRING AWAKENINGS (Lazy Susan Theatre Company). Ryan gives his biggest thanks to his #1 cheerleaders: his older brother, Steve and his little sister, Steph!

MCCARTHY (Mrs. Carlotti/Trina) is thrilled to return to the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte! She’s previously been seen in Mrs. Travis/Ms. Gordon (SCHOOL OF ROCK) and Swing: Cat [performed]/ Girl (DR. SEUESS’S THE CAT IN THE HAT). Other recent credits: Host (COMING OF AGE) at One Voice Chorus, Kate (THE WILD PARTY) at Queen City Concerts, Mr. Darcy (MISS BENNET: CHRISTMAS AT PEMBERLEY) at Davidson Community Players. A multi-talented actor, singer, teacher, playwright, comedian, and award-winning solo artist, she brings a wealth of creativity and energy to the stage. Her one-woman musical comedy show HOW TO BE AN ETHICAL SL*T has earned numerous awards at multiple Fringe festivals, and she’s currently developing GASLIGHTING: THE MUSICAL! Isabel is a graduate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and audiences may have seen her performing on our stage as Sophie (original production of THE INVISIBLE BOY), Cinderella (GRIMMZ FAIRY TALES), Blue Dragon (DRAGONS LOVE TACOS), Paloma (TROPICAL SECRETS: HOLOCAUST REFUGEES IN CUBA), Dragon (SHREK THE MUSICAL), Cecile/US Lily (ANNIE), Lion (LION & THE LITTLE RED BIRD),

ALEX AGUILAR (Nathan) is thrilled to return to the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte stage to reprise the role he originated in THE INVISIBLE BOY. An award-winning multidisciplinary artist, he holds distinctions in dance from UNC Charlotte and the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. When he’s not managing Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s social media accounts, Aguilar finds time to return to the stage. He recently performed in the 20th anniversary of CHARLOTTE SQUAWKS at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and CONTINUITY at Charlotte Conservatory Theatre. Children’s Theatre of Charlotte audiences may remember him as Tomás (TOMÁS AND THE LIBRARY LADY) or the green-haired villain Max Best, (ALLIE KAZAN AND THE MAGIC MANSION). Outside of theatre, Aguilar is a photojournalist, capturing the intersections of art, culture, and social justice. He uses his platform to uplift underrepresented voices and is proud to be part of a company that lets artists shine.
RENEÉ WELSH-NOEL
(Carla) is a teacher, choreographer, and performer based in Charlotte, NC. With a BA in Choreography and Dance Theory from UNC Charlotte, she creates choreography for productions in and around Charlotte. She is currently choreographing HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL at Rocky River High School. Reneé is a life-long performer and artist. She has made appearances on stage in shows throughout North America including the touring production of the Drama League Award nominated GRIMMZ HIP HOP FAIRY TALES (Rapunzel) and the MTA Award winning play LEAVING WATERMAINE (Jeridene). When Reneé is not on or backstage, she is a studio artist working with collage and paper creations.
CLAIRE HILTON
(Madison/Mom) is elated to return to the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte stage in THE INVISIBLE BOYas Madison and Mom; roles she originated in 2019. Other favorite CTC credits include GRACE FOR PRESIDENT, HARE AND TORTOISE, and touring the Carolinas as Nina in THE IMAGINATORS. When she isn’t onstage, Claire spends her time directing and teaching students. Claire previously served as the Director of Theatre at Charlotte Christian School, and as the Director of Shows and Experiences at Sigmon Theatrical. VANCE RILEY
(Male Swing) feels grateful to be a part of THE INVISIBLE BOY cast as a swing! Previously at CTC he played Fregly and Joshie in DIARY OF A WIMPY KID THE MUSICAL, and this holiday season, you will see him as Hermy in RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER. When Vance isn’t performing on stage, he is teaching preschool music all over the greater Charlotte Metropolitan Area with the Mr. Music Man Company. Vance would like to thank all his amazing friends in and outside the theatre space for encouraging him to do his best and keep trying new things!

CREATIVE TEAM BIOS
ADAM BURKE (Director) is overjoyed to be in his thirteenth season as the Artistic Director at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, where he gets to come every day and do what he loves. Prior to this, Adam was the artistic director of the Scioto Society, which produces the outdoor drama Tecumseh. Before that, Adam was the artistic director of the Chicago Theatre for Young Audiences, an artistic associate at Childsplay Theatre in Tempe, Arizona under the Theatre Communication Group’s New Generations fellowship program and the director of theatre programs at the Jewish Community Center in San Antonio, Texas. Adam earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting/directing at the University of Arizona and his Master of Fine Arts in directing at Northwestern University. During his tenure in Chicago, Adam worked at the Goodman, Steppenwolf, Chicago Shakespeare and Northlight Theatres and as the resident director at Open Eye Productions. Adam participated in the International Directing Symposium, hosted by LaMama Theatre, in Umbria, Italy; the National Advanced Stage Combat Workshop, hosted by the Society of American Fight Directors, ASSITEJ’s (International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People) One Theatre World, and the ASSITEJ International Directing Symposium in Stuttgart, Germany. Adam is a past recipient of the ASSITEJ/USA Ann Shaw Fellowship and of the Chicago Drama League International Research Grant. Selected directing credits include: MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET, RENT, THE RELUCTANT DRAGON, INTO THE WOODS, SHREK THE MUSICAL, A FLEA IN HER EAR, THE MIRACULOUS JOURNEY OF EDWARD TULANE, CHARLOTTE’S WEB, MATILDA THE MUSICAL, SCHOOL OF ROCK, and ELLA’S BIG CHANCE: A JAZZ AGE CINDERELLA. JESS BORGNIS (Music Director) is a pianist, vocalist, composer, and music director with over two decades of experience working in both educational and professional theater. She most recently appeared in the feature film Site alongside Theo Rossi and Jake McLaughlin, which also featured her original music. As a music director, recent credits include ME:2, an original work by Tommy Foster, THE INVISIBLE BOY, SCHOOL OF ROCK, and THE TRUE STORY OF THE THREE LITTLE PIGS at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, as well as ROCK OF AGES, LIZZIE, and TRAILER PARK CHRISTMAS MUSICAL at Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte. In addition to her theatrical work, Jess is a collaborative pianist with Charlotte Ballet and performs regularly with her jazz quartet. She has also worked as a recording artist and songwriter, helping compose and perform for artists across a broad range of genres and has been a featured artist on a Snoop Dogg song. Jess maintains an active private studio, where she teaches piano and voice, and her students have gone on to perform in regional theaters, collegiate programs, and professional productions.
RAHSHEEM SHABAZZ (Choreographer) has done countless shows here at CTC and is happy to return, not on the stage but as the choreographer. Rahsheem has been a dancer since a child, he has had the pleasure of doing Choreography for shows such as PETER PAN, 101 DALMATIANS, SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE! and much more, also dancing as an original Member of the Charlotte Hornets Hip Hop Dance Crew. HANNAH CROWELL (Scenic Designer) is honored to return to Children’s Theatre of Charlotte for THE INVISIBLE BOY. Her previous scenic designs at CTC include ROALD DAHL’S MATILDA THE MUSICAL, TOMÁS AND THE LIBRARY LADY and TIARA’S HAT PARADE. Before moving to Charlotte, she spent many years working as a designer in theatres throughout the Washington, D.C. metro area at venues including the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Ford’s Theatre, Folger Theatre, Olney Theatre Center, Adventure Theatre, and Imagination Stage.
GORDON W OLSON (Lighting Designer) is happy to return to Children’s Theatre of Charlotte in the role of lighting designer for this production of THE INVISIBLE BOY. KELLY COLBURN (she/they/k; Projections Designer) is a multidisciplinary artist working in the DC Area (Piscataway/Nacotchtank lands). She is the Executive Director at Flying V, a Media/Projections faculty member at The University of Maryland College, and a twotime Helen Hayes Awards recipient. She has been nominated for the Helen Hayes Awards, Philadelphia’s Barrymore Awards, Lucille Lortel Awards, and Henry Hewes Awards. Thrilled to be back at CTC for THE INVISIBLE BOY! BFA NYU Tisch, MFA University of Maryland.
KAHEI SHUM MCRAE (Costume Designer) is so excited to be back to help tell this beautiful story! Kahei holds a MFA in Costume Design and BFA in Production Design in Filmmaking from UNCSA. BENJAMIN G. STICKELS (Sound Designer) is excited to be telling another story at one of his favorite places with some of his favorite people! A sound designer, audio engineer, consultant, and educator, he is a native of Michigan, and serves as Senior Lecturer in Sound Design & Technology with the Production Arts and Operations department at UNC Charlotte. Recent designs at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte include sound for DIARY OF A WIMPY KID THE MUSICAL, as

well as last year’s OnStage productions of AS YOU LIKE IT and ONCE UPON A TIME AT SIMPLEBROOKE, and more than 20 others. Other recent designs include sound for LEGALLY BLONDE, SWEAT, and PIPPIN for UNC Charlotte. He has also designed extensively for the Texas Shakespeare Festival (more than 25 productions) and Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City. His work has also been heard at the University of Missouri – Kansas City, where he received the Master of Fine Arts in Sound Design; and Western Michigan University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Design and Production. He holds professional memberships in the Theatrical Sound Designers and Composers Association and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, and regularly presents at the annual Southeastern Theatre Conference. Trudy Ludwig is an acclaimed children’s advocate, speaker, and award-winning author of numerous children’s books including The Invisible Boy, a School Library Journal Best Picture Books Selection and a recommended back-to-school book by USA Today and Scholastic Instructor. Trudy has collaborated with leading experts and organizations including Sesame Workshop, the International Bullying Prevention Association, Committee for Children, and ConnectSafely.org to help kids connect with their peers in kinder, more inclusive ways. She has received rave reviews from educators, experts, organizations, and parents for her passion and compassion in addressing peer aggression and friendship issues.
