MD Anderson from China in 2016 for treatment of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Equipped with an ever-present smile, happy disposition and wonderful imagination, Jasmine immediately found her place in art class. She completed “Space Odyssey,” the whimsical, out-of-thisworld design featured on our night shirt and hoodie, at her very first class. Since then, Jasmine has become one of our most prolific artists.

She looks to animals for inspiration, and enjoys working with watercolors and colored pencils.

The therapeutic art classes provided Kloe with a bedside one-on-one art opportunity and group art activities in the clinic. In July 2017, Kloe rang the bell celebrating no signs of cancer.

Caracas, Venezuela. She joined a Children’s Art Project class on her first visit to MD Anderson, and enjoys participating as often as she can. Life as a young brain tumor survivor can be uncertain at times, but art brings Giovanna to a calm, happy place where her bubbling creativity finds focus.

She is enthusiastic about trying new techniques and mediums, and loves visits to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. A Spanish speaker, she has fun during art time learning new English, as well as teaching words and phrases in her native tongue. Giovanna helps make art a welcoming, collaborative experience for everyone!

Caracas, Venezuela. She joined a Children’s Art Project class on her first visit to MD Anderson, and enjoys participating as often as she can. Life as a young brain tumor survivor can be uncertain at times, but art brings Giovanna to a calm, happy place where her bubbling creativity finds focus.

She is enthusiastic about trying new techniques and mediums, and loves visits to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. A Spanish speaker, she has fun during art time learning new English, as well as teaching words and phrases in her native tongue. Giovanna helps make art a welcoming, collaborative experience for everyone!

Lara,

age 12 from The Woodlands,

Texas is an enthusiastic, friendly, independent young artist. In early 2018, she was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma, a cancer whose initial treatment often results in extended periods of hospitalization to manage the side effects of the aggressive treatment protocol. Lara’s life was turned upside down very quickly. At her first visit to MD Anderson's Child & Adolescent Center, Lara joined our Children’s Art Project activities and felt at ease. “I don’t know what we would have done if it hadn’t been for art,” Lara’s mother, Mai, said of their long stays at the Children’s Cancer Hospital.

Now three years out from treatment, Lara is considered a survivor of childhood cancer, grateful to the teams of caregivers that saved her life. Art is still her passion, as she continues to draw and paint, and has taken sculpture and photography classes in school, showing great promise. A thriving middle schooler, she plays the violin and participates in several sports.
