James, age 7, from Fort Worth, Texas is an active, vibrant, engaging young man. At the age of two he was diagnosed with Wilms' Tumor, a rare kidney cancer that primarily affects children, and began treatment protocols at MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital. James' treatment required many extended hospital stays and art immediately became an outlet for him. “Art became a family comfort for us all,” said James’ mother, LaShundra, during their extended visits to the Children’s Cancer Hospital.

James attended MD Anderson’s Camp Star Trails this summer, a six-day, sleep-away camp for Children’s Cancer Hospital patients and siblings. Held at Camp for All in Burton, Texas, it offers a multitude of activities from art to athletics, all completely accessible. While at camp, one of his favorite activities was art sessions in the Art Barn. His spin art created at camp is A featured on a holiday card this year.

While fighting cancer, there are many highs and lows, but art was the one thing that was always a constant joy for James.

Now cancer-free, he always smiles when someone mentions it is time for art.
